How will I ever lose weight when I’m always fucking starving 😩

I’m not talking slightly peckish. I’m talking proper nauseous, shaky-with-hunger hunger. Comes out of nowhere and hits me like a tonne of bricks.

Im a size 14 and I cannot be a size 14, I am too short. I am mortified with myself. I need to lose the weight. But I just get so ravenous so quickly and I end up cramming carbs in just to fill up.

Please tell me what to do 😩 other than sew my own mouth shut.

Drink 4-5 litres of water a day and come back on here and tell us if you're still hungry.

FrangipaniBlue · 04/04/2023 22:40

"Don't diet, don't fast, don't count calories! Instead log every bite you eat in a nutrient calculator." Yeah coz that's not like dieting at all.

I record my food to track macros and it's nothing whatsoever to do with "dieting" but is entirely to do with eating the correct quantities of fat/protein/carbs to match my training and racing schedule.

The OP asked for advice about not being hungry, the advice I and others have given her about upping protein and fat and tracking it is to help her with that.

Yes, if she wants to lose weight she needs to be in a calorie deficit ASWELL.

lljkk · 05/04/2023 07:25

For those of us with history of ED.s, tracking every bite is definitely bad for mental health & terrible for cultivating a sustainable healthy relationship with food. Maybe I can't hear OP's story without thinking her relationship is distorted. Doing something that continues a poor relationship is just so clearly not good strategy in my mind.

Have a look at this and some other videos by Coach Viva. It explains why drastic diets don't work, with science behind it.

ZiriForEver · 05/04/2023 10:15

Fasting is a cult. Too low calories intake leads into slowing of metabolism.

From what you wrote earlier, it sounded that you just don't eat enough, so you are hungry and trying to mask it by coffee.

Protein yogurt and water sounds a great first step!

Calories are relevant, but nutrients are more important.

Maybe think about basic categories (veg, fruit, protein) and if you feel hungry, just prefer something from useful category over something to mask hunger with sugar.

rookiemere · 05/04/2023 10:19

I'm losing weight without calorie counting by low carbing, I’m in my 50s.

I eat more or less what I want - provided it's low carb - and when I'm hungry. It's been a lot easier than I thought it would be, and not feeling deprived helps me to keep going. If I stopped losing weight, then I'd look at fasting windows, but I have to be careful as I have been on so many diets over the years, that anything too restrictive is likely to end up badly for me.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 03/04/2023 22:23

@ohnonotyetplease can you have sweeteners in coffee?

No, because your brain tastes sweetness and releases insulin to deal with what it thinks is sugar. Thereby breaking the fast.

YukoandHiro · 14/04/2023 12:35

Don't calorie count @DonnaRix - you will lose weight on a high protein high good fat (avo) but low carb diet. It takes about 2 weeks to adjust. Before that the hunger is bad because your body is addicted to high blood glucose levels

1Step2Step · 14/04/2023 12:42

I’m a size 14 and just can’t lose the pounds. I am just so tired and even I attempt any decent exercise it switches my appetite into overdrive. I think perimenopause hasn’t helped.

I signed up to My Juniper and they prescribed me Saxenda. It’s just totally taken away my appetite. I can actually stick to my diet (and sometimes I even skip dinner as I feel so full). It’s a push trying to eat 1200 calories some days.

StuntNun · 14/04/2023 14:36

"Fasting is a cult. Too low calories intake leads into slowing of metabolism."

This is just wrong. There are scientific studies in both rats and humans that show that eating within a time window (8 hour eating window and 16 hour fasting window) is more effective for weight loss than unrestricted eating even when the amount of calories consumed is identical. Yes, you still have to be in a calorie deficit to lose weight, there's no magic about it, however when and how often you eat is also a factor in weight loss.

Still hungry.

Still hungry.

I haven't read the full thread, but have you been to see the doctor?

Ridingonbuses · 14/04/2023 18:38

Weight Watchers which I find easy to follow and have had success with. I have found that it’s given me a better relationship with food and nothing is off limits.

boboshmobo · 14/04/2023 20:08

Protein? I find a protein yogurt with protein powder scooped into it fills me up for around 250 calls

ukgot2pot · 14/04/2023 21:27

@YouJustDoYou I've read most of this thread now. What you need by the sounds of it, is a lifestyle change. You said it yourself you are in a rut.

I used to be a bit like you. Used to gorge on food. The more I ate, the more I wanted. I became obsessed with food and eating was all I ever thought about. Looking back, I was bored and probably a bit depressed. Stuck in a rut, working stupid hours and had just come out of a long-term abusive relationship. I was in complete denial about my health. I decided enough was enough. I joined the gym and never looked back. It wasn't easy at first, but it all went hand in hand to where I am today and how I eat. I don't even want to eat crap anymore and i'm never hungry because I am fuelling my body with the right foods. I'm not saying you need to join a gym, but being active is always going to help you feel better about yourself and kick-start your weight loss journey. You'll be more conscious about choosing foods that are going to make you feel good and get into a better routine as it sounds like you don't have much of one. If all that doesn't help, then go and see a doctor and get some tests done.

But there are some things you've said in this thread that I've picked up on :

1.) - I don't drink enough water. - Did you really drink the 4-5 litres I suggested? - And for how long?!

2.) I don't get enough sleep - aim for 8-9 a night if possible. If not, ask yourself why - and do everything you can to make it possible.

3.) I'm time poor - Why is this? - Can you make changes to your life to make sure you have time for yourself? - Half an hour in the morning to do that exercise video, go for a walk, swim/gym?

4.) I end up cramming carbs - How much protein are you consuming?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/04/2023 23:58

Get tested for diabetes first.
Then go easy, start slowly and just one small change at a time til each is habit.

Simply drinking 4 litres of water isn't going to make me not hungry.

Have you even tried to do it?
