How are people feeling about Charles' coronation ?

Considering it's a few weeks away I've not heard any sort of excitement, any enthusiasm or much at all about it really!
Are the public totally over the royal family now, is it because it's Charles or is it because people are struggling to stay afloat financially?

I'm looking forward to the Coronation special of The Windsors Smile

YogaLite · 02/04/2023 20:36

I wish a nation could vote..

On top of millions here and there, councils are of course passing the charges to us in the council taxes 👿 as for boost to economy, that's mostly coming from ours and tourists pockets.

Looking forward to it a lot. I'm going to a street party on the Sunday and I've alreAdy started planning my bunting

Happy we get a day off work, certainly won't be spending it doing anything Coronation related as have zero interest in it.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 02/04/2023 20:50

I’m glad of an extra bank holiday but otherwise don’t care and won’t watch it. I didn’t like the queen and like Charles even less. I would rather live in a republic.

tinytemper66 · 02/04/2023 20:58

It is an extra day off. Nothing more.

gkhg · 02/04/2023 21:02

@00100001 through what means exactly? Have you done the sums yourself?

Chatterboxy · 02/04/2023 21:28

Certainly won’t be watching an over privileged prat being crowned, what a complete waste of money when the whole country is struggling with the cost of living.
An outdated institution at its best!

Soubriquet · 02/04/2023 21:39

Could not give a fuck tbh.

There are plenty to choose from. For example, before Brexit, it wouldn't have been difficult to move to France, Italy or Greece; America, Canada and Australia are an option.

Here is the portrait of him... £8million on this...

He hid his tampon fingers.

AMealASucculentChineseMeal · 02/04/2023 22:10

@SimplyAverage my first thoughts too. Is that treason?! Grin

I couldn't shake that hand, especially if Camilla was stood next to him.

I was scarred for life when that tape came out. 😆

hashbrownsandwich · 02/04/2023 22:15

Too soon after the jubilee, not his fault on obviously.

Sorry. I meant I would rather that the UK was a republic rather than I would want to live in another country.

Exl · 02/04/2023 22:43

A bit cringe.

Let’s face it, it was cool to have a Queen who’d had some influence over world leaders for seventy years. It might potentially be cool to have William (and his gorgeous family) on the throne. But Charles is old and tired and upset about his mum and I just want to give him a heated blanket and pop him in front of the telly then make him a cuppa. So to parade him around as the start of a new era seems in terrible taste when it can’t last very long can it.

Not feeling anything except everyone but everyone is grateful for extra bank holidays

DianasTeacup · 02/04/2023 23:42

Indifferent and disgusted at the cost. Would have been a good time to knock the monarchy on the head, its such nonsense.

nildesparandum · 02/04/2023 23:58

I am not interested at all. With the ever rising cost of living I think is a mockery on the ordinary people in this country.

BalloonSlayer · 03/04/2023 06:39

Presidential inaugurations cost state money too you know, and are a lot more frequent than coronations.

That is true, but there is nothing to say that we have to spend loads of money on either. Charles is already the king and we don't need an expensive coronation to tell us this.

I'm just asking what you think the coronation money would be better spent on than boosting the UK economy.

The money would make zero difference to NHS, schools etc. So what would be a better way to spend the money?

The estimated boost came from this article.

King Charles's Coronation set to boost UK economy by £1bn

The King's Coronation is set to boost the UK economy by millions as the public splurges on souvenirs, pub trips and street parties.
