How are people feeling about Charles' coronation ?

Considering it's a few weeks away I've not heard any sort of excitement, any enthusiasm or much at all about it really!
Are the public totally over the royal family now, is it because it's Charles or is it because people are struggling to stay afloat financially?

but equally the thought of a day in front of the television listening to all the sycophantic guff doesn’t seem that appealing

Brace yourself for Nicholas Witchell

I know I have only my own filthy mind to blame for the image that conjures up, but 🤮😂

I've won tickets to the coronation concert, which so far is half of take that so I'm in two minds about wether to bother!

Very jealous! If you know you've got them, I now know I haven't! Grin Hope you enjoy it.

I will watch on TV like the funeral of our late Queen. I won’t go to London because of the crowds. Our small rural village is having a street party

That is what we should celebrate! It's our intellectual and cultural history that makes me proud to live here, not the monarchy.

But the monarchy is part of our cultural history.

user1498572889 · 02/04/2023 17:09

Not interested. I think the monarchy should have ended with the queen. I don’t want a spineless spoilt excuse of a man as king.

flutterbyebaby · 02/04/2023 17:15

Apathy

Lateliein · 02/04/2023 17:16

Couldn't really give af but glad to have a day off 👍

AuxArmesCitoyens · 02/04/2023 17:19

Actively histile. And it will be another £100 million when Charles carks it in five years.

pussycatinfluffyslippers · 02/04/2023 17:19

Looking forwards to watching it on TV.
Hopefully there will be lots of glittering jewellery on show. 👑💎

gkhg · 02/04/2023 17:45

100 mil on this when 'their' country is struggling so much. I'm not going to support that

WhatFreshHeckle · 02/04/2023 17:48

Looking forward to the day off. Not that interested in the monarchy and I'm not sure I'll watch any of it unless the kids want to. But I'm not actually English, but DH and dcs are, so that's the difference I think

SockGoddess · 02/04/2023 17:58

Brace yourself for Nicholas Witchell

Shouting at Witchell wanging on endlessly and pointlessly on the news will be the most fun part.

cafecreme · 02/04/2023 18:06

@monsteramunch completely agree and I think the Palace have misjudged this one.

lucysnowe2 · 02/04/2023 18:18

I'm really looking forward to the choral music - apparently 12 new pieces have been composed (including, erm, a Coronation anthem from Andrew Lloyd Webber) - there were some really lovely performances during the various funeral services and I love listening to the kids especially - they are so talented. There's going to be a Greek orthodox choir too, which sounds fab.

tigger1001 · 02/04/2023 18:32

I will go out if my way to avoid as much of it as I can.

The Monday holiday really annoys me. Exams etc having to be rearranged. Zero thought given to the disruption the extra bank holiday causes. That was the point of having it on a Saturday.

Forestfire12345 · 02/04/2023 19:36

Means nothing to me. I cringe at the cost though.

IFeelSoSoSad · 02/04/2023 19:48

It is disgusting and a kick to the UK population

LlynTegid · 02/04/2023 19:52

Plans have been made at work around it (as the extra bank holiday). Only other thought is who will be at the ceremony. I'd hope no politicians are invited, though doubt that will be the case, or if they do turn up, will excuse booing of them.

JenniferBooth · 02/04/2023 19:56

Exactly @BashirWithTheGoodBeard Our bus does not run on Sundays and bank holidays so people on our estate who need to get to work or be somewhere else on Coronation Day will be paying extortionate taxi fares AGAIN. It used to be argued that BHs benefitted working class people. They dont anymore because now we are a 24 hour society most people mainly those on NMW have to work these days plus pay large taxi fares to get there because no buses are running.

Roussette · 02/04/2023 19:57

Here is the portrait of him... £8million on this...

It's not even particularly good - just looks like it's been copied from a photo.

MarshaBradyo · 02/04/2023 20:04

Surely not everyone gets a painting?

So a print copy from the original?

🙄 it will boost the economy by £1bn.

What else do you think the money should be spent on?

AMealASucculentChineseMeal · 02/04/2023 20:24

@00100001 it could be split between various good causes, like Lottery funding. The Coronation Fund, that organisations could apply to because of course it's a limited amount but it could be life changing for come communities or organisations. I don't know. It's just an idea. I'm sure others will have more thought-out ones. It's interesting what you say about the revenue it will bring in though. I suppose I find it distasteful in the current climate as PP say. All the different perspectives are really interesting though.
