To start with when the dc joined the school I went to a couple of the meetings but as a new mum to the area & no other new parents attending the established clique excluded me.
As the years have gone by it turns out I have "those children" the ones who win the awards, get the leads in plays, solo pieces on their instruments & two of my daughters have been Mary.
The schools spring concert is this weekend & my three all have big roles.. I heard back from my sil who was on a pta night out that there was three disgruntled parents who said DH & I do nothing for the school & can't understand why our dc get such preferential treatment..
To clarify we contribute all our fees, also bake lots for the cake sale.

but if your DCs have been getting all the good parts etc etc they will bitch about it. It is moanworthy, tbh, but they should be talking to the teacher not about the children's mum

CJsGoldfish · 01/04/2023 01:48

but the PTA seem to be singling us out
3 parents? 😂
Your SIL 'reported back' that 3 parents were disgruntled. That's hardly the whole 'PTA crew'. Unless there are only 4 members with your SIL?

Was the filmed eye roll dude one of the 3?

It’s just jealousy.

When my children were little and at infant/primary school it was always the same children who got picked for the stand out roles in school performances. The other children never stood a chance really.
This is when little children start to learn that nothing in life is fair.
The girl who got all the reading out - narrator parts was precocious. Nobody liked her and yet the teachers kept on using her and she loved it because this was her chance to show off.
The school liked it since she was the shining example of what this school was turning out in terms of talent. The reality was that there were other pupils equally as good who got overlooked in favour of this one child.

It's just jealousy, and a sense of superiority and entitlement that makes people behave like this.

It is annoying when the same kids get picked but if they're talented then that's why. No teacher wants the lead kid to mess up on stage so your kids are proven leads. That's life.

Just rise above it. There be chuffed if they knew you gave this so much headspace.

@ancientgran I agree with you. It's not DH's or my fault. It's not our kids fault but the PTA seem to be singling us out. However do you think the fact that they feel entitled to special treatment due to their pta work is right?

No they shouldn't get special treatment but by the same token your children shouldn't get special treatment because they go to musical theatre classes. I also don't think it is right that your children seem to get more than their fair share of opportunities. Children being able to have a share of the limelight shouldn't depend on how much money or how much time their parents spend on extra curriculars. Some of my best memories of school productions wasn't seeing the prodigies, it was seeing the little boy with severe dyslexia getting up and doing a reading, or the little girl who styled it out when her trousers started to fall down.

The teachers aren't doing a good job when they don't do their best to include all children.

RoseBucket · 01/04/2023 12:26

I used to dislike this when my daughter was at school, same children always getting picked, talent or not it demotivates others because …. always gets the part anyway.

Teacher should be mindful and rotate the opportunities, it’s not the West End.

JenniferBarkley · 01/04/2023 14:53

It's not like "the PTA" have taken against them though - some parents had a moan on the night out about something. That's a different thing, and like I said before I'm sure you've done similar before, all of us have!

Doesn't seem great of the school to keep giving big parts to kids who do extracurricular musical theatre - they'll get loads of opportunities to perform, for other kids school will be their only chance.
