Things that are socially acceptable but you wish they were not

I feel like a bit of a man. For me:

Men pissing by the side of the road. I have see this twice in the past few days, yet there were public loos close by. If a woman did this people would question her sanity, or at the very least think she was undignified yet for men it's considered normal.

Men going shirtless in public. Do what you like in your own garden, but why walk down the high street etc without a shirt. It's never that hot in England - in fact some much hotter climates actually have dignity laws that prohibit both men and women from even showing their arms or legs. Plus you know, sun burn.

Smoking. I hate walking behind someone who is smoking, it blows back in the face of the person behind and gives me a headache. It's unhealthy, expensive and should just be banged in public full stop imo.

I know a lot of people won't agree with this but dressing in formal "smart" clothes. I hate wearing uncomfortable stuffy things and if everyone else was also always casually dressed I would fit in and never have to worry about what to wear for work or parties.

babies with their Dads foot teams top - little Caleb does not know he supports Man U

surely just harmless fun?

Which public? UK? The first two never happen in my home country (ever). I don't think they are socially acceptable at all.

The smoking drifting into peoples faces I agree. It's disgusting and I wish it was deemed inappropriate.

theworldhas · 24/03/2023 21:08

Not sure why people get so angry at seeing people shopping in their pyjamas. It’s not affecting anyone else in the slightest. Live and let live surely.

carly2803 · 24/03/2023 21:09

drag acts
"them" brigade
"gender fluid" etc

just attention seeking garbage

Daisyismynameorisnot · 24/03/2023 21:09

IconicKitty · 24/03/2023 18:39

Also spitting - not socially acceptable per say but lots (of men) do it.

Oh yes this too. Never saw this till I came to the UK. Truly vile.

When meeting someone new they ask your name and what you do for a living as if your job defines your personality. I wish they ask what my hobbies or interests are instead.

Totally agree, I hate that too!

SeatonCarew · 24/03/2023 21:11

Virtue signalling.

Swearing as a form of punctuation. Even worse if it's in front of children.

While I understand a lot of GC arguments, saying that 'being trans' should not be socially acceptable is, in fact, transphobia.

BabyCarolina · 24/03/2023 21:11

People making generalised statements of opinion and other people taking wild offence and thinking you are personally attacking them.

It's impossible to have a discussion without people making it personal and getting offended.

Orangetapemeasure · 24/03/2023 21:11

Thinking it’s ok to scroll through your phone when a guest in someone else’s house. You are saying ‘you’re boring’. It’s insanely rude.

flyingbuttress43 · 24/03/2023 21:12

Women with prams standing gossiping, blocking the pavement so you have to step into the road to get past them. Having a baby is not an excuse for feeling you are entitled to ignore the rest of humanity,

Re men pissing in the street. My theory is that they either have genetically weak bladders or genetically weak manners.

theworldhas · 24/03/2023 21:12

People knocking on your door to sell you shit. You can advertise on line. You can advertise with leaflets. You can advertise with posters, or in the newspaper, or generate positive word of mouth etc etc. Disturbing people’s private work environment/leisure environment in order to try and get them to buy stuff they 99% have no interest in should be considered rude/inappropriate.

Justinsolentnoise · 24/03/2023 21:14

Agree spitting is probably not socially acceptable, but it is so gross! At traffic lights recently, a Swish Fibre employee spat out his window while we were stuck at temp traffic lights (set up for Swish Fibre, to add insult to injury). It made me feel sick 🤢

Colleagues eating on video calls with or without the video on. I was talking to someone not long ago and they were scoffing a bowl of cereal and didn’t care (the meeting wasn’t at breakfast time, either) - talking while chewing away! Yuk!

Oh yes this. Charities seem to be the worst offenders too. A man knocked on my door at 8:30 the other night trying to get me to donate, it's not on.

I've never seen a man (or woman for that matter) pissing in the street. Is it socially acceptable? I can't imagine how it is socially acceptable, wouldn't most people find it unacceptable. My mind is boggled.

theworldhas · 24/03/2023 21:16

I don’t think that many people do this in the UK. Seems pretty superficial to me to ask it right off the bat. I always wait till they offer it anyway.

PandoraRocks · 24/03/2023 21:16

Swearing in public - even schoolkids are using 'cunt' and fuck in the streets. Was never like this when I grew up.
Spitting - bloody disgusting.
Those awful bikini bottoms/thongs which show all your ass on the beach. No I don't want to see it!
Trout pouts on women in their twenties - just why?
The whole gender ideology bullshit.

Bimblybomeyelash · 24/03/2023 21:20

Everyone holding up their phones at gigs/concerts do that it blocks my view of the stage. Just watch the bloody show with your eyes people! Stop filming everything!

Tbf I used to say cunt and twat quite a lot as a teen back in the 90s. Probably for about a year before I realised they weren't the same as saying twit or idiot. Everyone else was saying them and I didn't stop to think about what they actually meant.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 24/03/2023 21:21

I say, that's a bit of harsh punishment - just for smoking a cigarette...

'It's unhealthy, expensive and should just be banged in public full stop imo'

...but it would certainly draw a crowd.

(I'll be there, near the front! 😛😛)

aveline161 · 24/03/2023 21:21

So many of these but especially relieved to see Drag mentioned, I thought I was the only one and it was socially unacceptable to state a dislike/ feel offended by them! Also ‘oh the irony’ to the nut allergic poster who hates alternative milks from the mother of a severely allergic to dairy child 😂

Daisyismynameorisnot · 24/03/2023 21:23

blondieminx · 24/03/2023 19:37

People who go into offices with the lurgi and spread it to colleagues. Keep your germs at home, ffs.

People who send their sick kids into school meaning d&v/coughs/whatever spreads there as well.

Music/videos being played out very loud on trains not using headphones.

People at work who literally gloat about sending their sick kids to school/nursery as of they are cool or something. Those poor kids.

  • drag acts
  • gender ideology
  • smoking/vaping
  • loud telephone conversations in public places
  • playing videos/music from your phone in public places without headphones
  • race to the bottom "victim status" mentality on social media
  • "he's my rock" type posts on social media
  • in fact - just social media in general!

Bye!

Goodread1 · 24/03/2023 21:26

@Chilloutsnow

Thats an eye opener !

Blimey I have never heard of it bring socially acceptable at work places for women to let Rip,
Certainly not where I worked, L.o.l 😅
Just curious what kind of work do you do then?
