Things that are socially acceptable but you wish they were not

I feel like a bit of a man. For me:

Men pissing by the side of the road. I have see this twice in the past few days, yet there were public loos close by. If a woman did this people would question her sanity, or at the very least think she was undignified yet for men it's considered normal.

Men going shirtless in public. Do what you like in your own garden, but why walk down the high street etc without a shirt. It's never that hot in England - in fact some much hotter climates actually have dignity laws that prohibit both men and women from even showing their arms or legs. Plus you know, sun burn.

Smoking. I hate walking behind someone who is smoking, it blows back in the face of the person behind and gives me a headache. It's unhealthy, expensive and should just be banged in public full stop imo.

Smoking / vaping- goes everywhere !

Dogs off the lead / people not picking up after their dog

Videos on phones out loud

FreeSpirit7 · 25/03/2023 19:54

Nothing’s ‘wrong’ with the human body, but there is a time and place when it comes to topless men. No one appears to have any self respect or standards anymore.

Agree with most of the complaints on here: shopping in nightwear (lazy slobs) - glad so many supermarkets kick them out!! Urinating in public? I’m sure that’s actually a public offence, and good point, imagine if women did that!!

Also very happy for men to have their shirts off but only if we women can take tops and bras off. Also shouldn’t it be mandatory for me to have a tight strap around their chests with shoulder straps that dig into your shoulders!!!

I dont think theres any lawful reason why you cant walkabout topless

Pupinski · 25/03/2023 20:00

Chefs on social media demonstrating how delicious their recipes are by taking an exaggerated mouthful. Yeucchh. Makes me squirm.

Yeah, I know. Weird. 😩

Anotheroverreaction · 25/03/2023 20:01

Surrogacy
eating animal products
fat shaming
gender ideology
the tories
tinsel

Valentine's Day.

See also New Year's Eve.

MdNdD · 25/03/2023 20:11

The random spitting.

absolutely disgusting.

I have wondered if they pretend they’re a footballer while they do it?

Or are they really physically unable to swallow?

I’ve seen men of all ages, dressed in suites, on their way to the office actually just spit on the pavement. As if it is a normal thing to do.

How is that ok??

menopausalbloat · 25/03/2023 20:15

I opened my front door once to see a bloke pissing on my doorstep.

Fat shaming. It appears to be socially acceptable to villify fat people for being visibly "unhealthy" and lacking intelligence, whatever the reason for overeating, and "putting extra strain on the NHS".

I'm not saying that it isn't true, but why should a fat person be a social pariah more than anyone slim but with a less immediately visible unhealthy personal dysfunction that could lead to multiple co-morbidities?

Fat people are an easy and obvious target and the population deems shaming them perfectly acceptable.

Agree 100%, but also people at the other end of the spectrum who defend obesity as acceptable (I speak as someone 7 stone heavier than I was 10 years ago).

I know that it's not always the fault of the individual (hence being totally against fat shaming - or any other body shaming for that matter) but it is unhealthy and it is life-limiting and shouldn't be applauded.

And men pissing just about anywhere! I was walking down a busy highstreet and a man was just pissing there! We were right next to the tube and it has toilets inside! And just across the road was a park, he could have nipped across & pissed in an actual bush instead of on the street like a fucking dog. And thats not the first time I’ve seen that.

And I'm afraid it's not just #1s. A few years ago my teenage son saw a man squatting and doing a #2 in broad daylight on a public footpath beside a hole in the wall machine (quiet area, but in full view of a car park, public toilets max 200 yards away). I'm quite proud he had the presence of mind to report it to the Police.

StaceySolomonSwash · 25/03/2023 20:21

Vaping. I know it's not smoking but you're still exhaling the contents of your lungs even though it's cherry scented. Covid is still a thing and I don't want to have to inhale your exhale. Do it in your own home, not in the street.

menopausalbloat · 25/03/2023 20:22

Alcohol. I hate walking past pissed-up people.

I hate seeing people eat just with a fork in one hand, struggling to cut meat etc when there is a knife next to them. We were brought up to use a knife and fork but I think it is another American trend that has been picked up here.

Typically in America, they will use knife and fork to cut everything into bite sized chunks, and then use just the fork to transport it to their mouth.

Missingpop · 25/03/2023 20:36

Smoking gives me a headache to it makes me feel sick as well.🤢
Vaping is another one that sickeningly sweet cloud emitted from the car in-front or from the person in-front it’s vile.🤢
Spitting seeing footballers/rugby players doing it; means kids do it but it’s gross; some poor sods going to be sliding in it later in the game 🤢
Not cleaning up your dogs💩 on the playing fields, pathways; anywhere really !! you wouldn’t let your child take a 💩 on the pavement so why let your dog; clean it up, it’s dangerous to children; it’s gross when they get it on their shoes or clothes 🤢
Not showing the elderly respect; hold open a door; offer to help them if they’re struggling; they did so much for our country show them some respect.
Men not showing women respect; barging past them; not opening doors for them; allowing them to go first; offering them a seat; little things that show respect & good manners. Perhaps their mamma’s don’t teach them it anymore!!!

Notmorecrapola · 25/03/2023 20:38

It really winds me up to see people on TV whinging about how they have no money but have a face full of fillers and are covered in tattoos. Tats are expensive, so are fillers and Botox - employ some self restraint!

Dymaxion · 25/03/2023 20:43

People tailgating you through urban areas because you are sticking to the speed limit, you driving that close will not make me break the law, ( I also know the spots where the police bike/cam van parks, so I am doing you a favour, as a few have realised ) I like my clean driving licence and I don't want to pay more insurance, just so you can get where you are going two minutes faster and spend more on car maintenance to do it, if you backed off a bit you could just ease your foot off the acelerator instead of braking ! And if you do it whilst looking at your phone, the urge to do an emergency stop for a phantom cat is very strong, given how shit my car is and how good my insurance is Wink

Spitting, use a tissue or swallow, you minging creatures, equally as bad as the people who cover one nostril to blow out the contents of the other in public.

Mobile phones, everywhere all at once ! As someone who has lived more of their life without them than with them, I am not so sure they are as great as we think, I miss good old fashioned daydreaming Smile

Tinsel? Nooooo, I love tinsel!!

However, I do not love:

Chewing gum
OTT perfume/aftershave
Smoking in public
Neighbours positioning their cameras to film the whole street... because that isn't creepy/super invasive at all

Busbygirl · 25/03/2023 20:47

Eating and drinking in the cinema/ theatre. Can people really not manage 3 hours max, without eating?
The rustling of sweet bags is so inconsiderate to everyone around. People seem to have no self awareness.

NewBrightonEel · 25/03/2023 20:54

People who make their toddlers perform to strangers in public spaces. I was in an ICU waiting room waiting to swap over with my adult children to sit at my daughter's bedside (2 visitors per bed). It was full of people waiting for time with really sick and dying relatives - so very tense - and a young woman was going on and on at her toddler to sing Old McDonald. Just no.

In some places there are only 4s and I'm not going to stand up to drink my coffee, even for you love. It's the same with other seats, I booked a train ticket and a seat at a table, a group told me to move because they were four and wanted to sit together. The words 'shit' and 'tough' came to mind in some way.

This. Sometimes all the tables for two may be gone, and if I've gone into a coffee shop it means I want to have a cup of coffee and sit down. If there's only a table for four left, I will sit at it. 😊

OP. It's per se (Latin, pronounced per say)

People having their phones and speaker and walking about having loud conversations to their phones.

I hate this with an unreasonable seething passion.
