Things you like cooked/made 'WRONG'

I love a floury cheese sauce, especially in macaroni cheese - do not like the cheese pull everyone tries for. Bland and floury please.

I like undercooked pastry, so it's still a bit squidgy...soggy bottom pies are the best!

The burnt/brown crisps that everyone else leaves. Not bothered about 'eyes' on potato products...adds to the crunch! No so much any green bits on chips/crisps but won't leave them either.

I like flat fizzy drinks too, including prosecco/champagne; prefer it, fewer burps!

The crispy edges on a cake Grin

Alwaysoneoddsock · 20/03/2023 21:35

Flat, gooey Yorkshire Puddings - yum

Dacadactyl · 20/03/2023 21:37

I like when the centre of a cake is not cooked enough?!

I'm with you in the soggy bottom pastry!
My carbonara has a lot of double cream in it. Yes I know it's not authentic and no I don't care.

FelicityBeedle · 20/03/2023 21:40

I make ‘enchiladas’ and cover them in cheese sauce. They’re soggy and perfect. I like a lot of soggy foods in truth

notprincehamlet · 20/03/2023 21:40

Burnt stir fry

notprincehamlet · 20/03/2023 21:44

Also my Grandmother used to make the best 'Yorkshire pudding' that was like a savory sponge. Was so disappointed when I was introduced to proper YP.

VintageThoughts · 20/03/2023 21:45

Love stuff underdone and stodgy. Batter on fish and chips, cookies, yourkshire puddings etc.

Oh yeah, those huge brown burnt empty inside monstrosities are a disappointment. It needs to be beige and squidgy...just a mild tan up from a pancake!

Most things burnt tbh!

Burnt cabbage/sprouts/broccoli are yummy

Kam610 · 20/03/2023 21:47

I like undercooked toast so it's more like warm bread, with an ever so slight crisp to it. Warm enough to melt the butter, which I like to lather on.

I also prefer when cereal goes soggy and soaks up the milk.

HeadNorth · 20/03/2023 21:48

I hate omelettes with a runny middle - well cooked all the way through please.
I also don’t like warmed plates, it takes ages for the food to cool and I prefer my food tepid. My mum is horrified that I eat from cold plates!

Rebel2 · 20/03/2023 21:49

Bacon so crispy it snaps
Roast potatoes well done burned

jays · 20/03/2023 21:50

Poached egg on toast where the yolk is completely hard and yellow with no orange middle and the white is completely in the bin!

Rebel2 · 20/03/2023 21:50

Posted too soon!
My colleague once got me the perfect bacon barm, he ordered it by saying "burn it, burn it again and when it's fit for the bin, put it on a barm for her"

Mmm I love really crispy bacon too!!

Bree82 · 20/03/2023 21:55

not a cooked food, buuuut, I leave a bag of wotsits open for ages before eating because I love stale wotsits lol. I don’t even remember how I figured this out haha

longtompot · 20/03/2023 21:56

@Kam610 my dd likes warm bread, bread that's not toasted for colour, just a bit of warmth.

@jays my other dd hates runny yolks. She likes her yolks solid too.

I love cold toast, preferably quite brown. I leave it to go cold before buttering and adding toppings. So much nicer than soggy toast. I've yet to try Saint Nigellas method which is to butter hot toast so the butter melts in and then let go cold before buttering again!

Oysterbabe · 20/03/2023 21:58

I prefer food that's warm rather than hot, I just think it tastes better. I prefer cool rather than ice cold drinks for the same reason.

merryhouse · 20/03/2023 21:58

scrambled eggs, apparently. I cook them really fast on high and scribbled with a fork. H takes about 20 minutes, occasionally dabbing with a wooden spoon, and produces something that is still half-raw (20 years of reminders have persuaded him to serve mine at an almost-edible point).

I use cheese sauce in a lasagne. I also cook all sorts of pasta dishes with both onion and garlic. I once made a Proper spaghetti bolognese following what purported to be an authentically bolognian recipe, and while it was nice enough I much prefer my own Spag Bol (garlic, mushrooms, peppers, oregano, red rather than white wine, no pork mince, no milk, a dash of Marmite).

(Oh, and off-topic but two squares of dark chocolate is not a satisfying sweet treat)

NashvilleQueen · 20/03/2023 21:59

When you get a malformed Malteaser that's like a malty bullet. Yum.

Yes! The new big wotsits are just fabulous when they are stale. Slightly chewy but still so cheesy Smile

AudTheDeepMinded · 20/03/2023 22:02

Another firm yolk preferer here. Snotty whites make me heave. I also love scrambled egg with smoked salmon, but the salmon has to sauteed too so it loses its translucency. Once made bread for the first time in a bread maker and used half spelt wheat. Came out like a soggy brick. Kids have been asking for it again ever since!

quirkychick · 20/03/2023 22:03

Yes to warm, soft toast with melted butter and well-cooked bacon. An ex told me off for carbonising it 😁.
Also, the crispy bits on pancakes.

bellac11 · 20/03/2023 22:03

Totally thought I was the odd one out with regard to my preference for soggy bottoms, squidgy pastry, soft yorkshire puddings with chewy textures, stodgy underdone batter

On the other hand I prefer very burnt sausages if eating them.

Also prefer pasta over cooked

When I was little I used to hear my mum saying 'come down now, the butter's burning' because she would be cooking my scrambled egg (proper 70s breakfast!) and Id be taking so long coming down she would get distracted and burn the butter. But I loved the butter burned, I had no idea I was a foodie from th age of 5 or so and it was 'brown butter' that I had caused her to create!!!
