Noooo NOT Bake Off

Just heard Alison Hammond is to co host Bake Off. Totally ruined it for me now. Bad enough when Mel and Sue left. I’m not sure Mr Hollywood is going to appreciate the competition.

I think it's good to have a non white host

Doesn't matter whether they're fantastic or annoyingly rubbish just so long as they're non white? What a bizarre statement.

VixenTodd · 17/03/2023 15:16

There are a few presenters about who baffle me. These days, it seems like everyone is in with a chance unless they have decent presentation skills.

I don't know why she's getting so many gigs. That raucous laugh grates on every last bit of my nerves.

Because most people find happy people quite pleasant.

I think Alison is a great choice, and am really looking forward to seeing her on Bake-Off. Smile

BigFatLiar · 17/03/2023 15:21

No idea who she is.

Matt was never going to work because he was too famous for one thing : Little Britain. AH has not scaled those heights so she may work better but only if Noel goes and she is put with a compatible co-host.

I think Alison Hammond is much more famous at the moment than Matt Lucas. Younger audiences wouldn't know who he is.

shadypines · 17/03/2023 15:21

AH is responsible for which tone deaf adverts she appears in though@Mrsjayy. Food can be advertised for Christmas in plenty of ways, showing a banquet when record numbers of people are using food banks and news regularly telling us lots of kids are malnourished really stuck in my craw. My gripe is also with the supermarket of course not just her.
Anyway, top and bottom of it is I'm not that keen and just hope she's not doing her usual fog horn job.

Big difference between "happy" and irritating.

There is a difference though between happy people and fake over the top look at me look at me screechers

I really really don’t like Alain Hammond. It’s put me off watching it.

I don’t either. Alison Hammond, however, is hilarious.

There's always one. 🙄

ThomasinaLivesHere · 17/03/2023 15:25

I really don’t like Noel. He mistakes being odd for being funny. Matt and Sandy were ok. I miss Mel and Sue.

DannyZukosSmile · 17/03/2023 15:26

I don't understand the disdain from some posters on here, Alison is funny, warm, lovely, quirky, and a lot of fun to watch! She'll be brilliant. Grin I just absolutely love her. I know several people who have worked at ITV and have worked with her, and they said she's a hoot, she made them welcome and comfortable when they started, and she is really helpful and sweet. Very odd to see so much vitriol aimed at someone so lovely. Sad

I think it's good to have a non white host. I was hoping it would be Nadya. I don't watch GBBO anymore though as it's so terrible now, sonata immaterial to me who hosts. Can't stand PH either. The Australian one is better.

"non white host" why is this relevant? which colour would you prefer? why do you not like white hosts?

GoodChat · 17/03/2023 15:29

@mydogisthebest I don't think she's fake

She could be the Angel Gabriel as a person. I don't know anything about that.

As a presenter, she screeches and squawks, and is just downright annoying.

I don't find her "fun to watch". She makes me want to kick the tv screen in. I also don't find her quirky. She might think she is but she really is not

user278654 · 17/03/2023 15:43

Sorry she will take over the show.

PrincessScarlett · 17/03/2023 15:49

I love Alison. I think she will be fabulous on Bake Off.

And she's actually a decent cook to those that have said she has no baking experience. She's always chatting to the chef of the day on This Morning about how she cooks/bakes and Dermot has commented she is a fabulous cook as she's cooked for him.

I didn't dislike Matt, but Bake Off just didn't suit him. Alison will be a ray of sunshine. And hopefully she'll put Paul Hollywood in his place.

pussycatinfluffyslippers · 17/03/2023 13:03

^All of the things, especially quiet that Alison isn't.

I didn't say she was

It was the 🤮 I was objecting to

Viviennemary · 17/03/2023 15:57

Watched a bit of it once. Mist boring thing ever. Doesn't matter who hosts. She is better than a lot of folk. That awful wooden fake Holly willoughby for a start.

WhatHoJeeves · 17/03/2023 15:58

Ugh. I'd already started thinking Bake Off was past its prime but that's totally ruined it for me now.

Obviously lots of people like Alison Hammond but - as a quiet person myself with an aversion to anything showy - I really don't like presenters with a big, loud manner. That's one reason I generally hate reality TV but I always liked the quiet simplicity and warmth of Bake Off in the early days. An oasis of calm in a noisy world.

I felt it lost a lot when it moved to Channel 4. I don't think it's for me now.

Choconut · 17/03/2023 15:58

I think she is absolutely brilliant at interviewing celebs and doing crazy, fun things. I didn't like her presenting This Morning but I don't know how she'd be on Bake Off. I haven't watched the last couple of series though, maybe I'll try it again if she brings a bit of life back to it. I miss Mel and Sue.
