What is going on at the BBC right now?

What with the news breaking today ( 10/03/23) that Lineker is to step back from presenting Match of the Day and now Ian Wright is also not going to appear on the show in solidarity. They also have said that they will not air a David Attenborough (what the hell did he do/say that pushed their buttons) episode due to fears of a right-wing backlash. On top of that, Fiona Bruce has said that Stanley Johnson 'only' broke his wife's nose once (I mean just how many times is too many, I ask ye).

What the hell is going on at the BBC right now????

Sources:
David Attenborough being cancelled
Gary Lineker stepping back from MotD
Ian Wright standing by Gary
Fiona Bruce story

Just wondering if anyone can make sense of what is going on in the BBC at the moment.

It's got absolutely nothing to do with who watches MOTD!

I think it does 🤷🏼‍♀️ Football fans are not known for their love of immigration are they?

'Are you against this survivor having a platform?'

There are plenty more survivors that have been horrified by his glib, attention seeking comments. '1930s Germany' I mean fgs I know footballers aren't renowned for their intelligence but even so. Just stfu and get off sm Lineker.

So what?
Doesn't mean her voice cannot be heard does it.

Right wing authoritarian governments don't like opposing views & neither do right wing voters.

..and i bet you can't come up with plenty of survivors who agree with Braverman either, another lie.

It’s confusing because the content produced by the BBC is very woke - lots of ‘sex positivity’ programmes, mental health, gender identity, disability.

I think it’s more that the people who watch MOTD are more likely to be centre or right of centre and disagree with Gary 🤷🏼‍♀️

As for the Attenborough thing. Just weird.

Exactly! The BBC are hardly right wing enthusiasts they are more woke by the day.

The issue isn't what anyone thinks about the Government's plans regarding illegal immigrants, rather as a high profile BBC <freelance of not> presenter GL should really choose his language amd terminology more carefully.

Lovely bit of generalisation there.

and all rugby fans wear red trousers and drive Range Rovers.

The BBC clearly don’t understand what impartiality means.

We don’t have a right wing authoritarian government, unless you were referring to another one?

Piggywaspushed · 10/03/2023 19:28

Firstly.... massive generalisation.

Secondly, they love Lineker .

Thirdly, he was not stood down because of reactions from the public.

Well 🤷🏼‍♀️ are you saying if there was a study, it wouldn’t show that football fans are more likely to disagree with uncontrolled immigration?

Fuck races, that is...

Believeitornot · 10/03/2023 19:30

In the early 1930s, the German-Nazi government held the belief that the German natural race was “best” and those who were not natural Germans were of a lower order.

Our Home Secretary keeps talking about “the British People”, “British values” and implies that asylum seekers/immigrants are an “invasion”. She implies that there here for nefarious reasons.

She is drawing a line between the British People and “others”.

That is the language of the early 1930s German government. Now in Germany, that ended up with millions of people being murdered. Just because our Home Sec is speaking that way now, it doesn’t mean we will end up with another holocaust - but the problem is the fact that is even similar to early 1930s - that is the problem here.

There are other ways of tackling the refugee crisis. But using nasty inflammatory language is not it.

And, for actual fucks sake, right wing European parties are applauding this policy. I mean just how much more evidence do you need?

Clavinova · 10/03/2023 19:30

Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper responds to the BBC's Gary Lineker's likening of the new migrant bill to Nazi Germany saying; "I don't agree with what he said or think it was the right thing to say" and that it's a "matter for the BBC".

Early 90s, probably. Football fans are a broad cross section of the population now.

He didn't compare it to the Holocaust. He compared it to 1930s Germany when Hitler was first in power and started using racist language towards Jews and introduced laws and policies against Jews. It was the pre cursor to the Holocaust

exactly!!

People are either ignorant, stupid or being deliberately obtuse, by making such claims about Gary Linekar’s words.

The Nazis started off in the early 1930s as racists and then slid to the Holocaust. Fascism isn’t the sole preserve of the Nazis, but it’s the one that’s the most well known.

People need to educate themselves.

Hush now you @Believeitornot with your accuracy and facts. I bet you even believe in free speech.🙄

I would PMSL at all the Tory, thick as shit Whataboutery sheep on this thread, but the cunts have wrecked the county.🙃

What is wrong with saying ‘British people’ and ‘British values’ when you are a politician in Britain? In France they say ‘French values’ all the time, are they right wing racists? Confused

And with eloquence like that it’s very hard not to see your point.

There is ‘nasty divisive language’ on this thread but it ain’t the ‘very very very right wing’ posters is it?

@Calmdown14 he hosted a ukrainian refugee and donates money to loads of charities.

And so he should be, the obscene amount of money he is creaming off licence payers!!

In any organisation, if you say something public that could be construed as bringing that business into disrepute, then you are open to censure. I've seen a case of a very low paid worker being disciplined for a throwaway comment on FB, because they'd identified their employer. There was context - I didn't think it was horrendous personally but no doubt the MN mafia would have been calling for their execution or something.

If GL feels so strongly then why doesn't he put his money where his mouth is and run for public office?
