Nicest/not nice celebs.

bazzabas · 10/03/2023 11:58

Who is the nicest celeb you've met?

On the flip side who was not nice?

I had a friend who met Girl's Aloud after she won a competition.

They waited hours to met them, waiting for them to arrive.

Apparently Nadine was lovely, chatted and genuinely seemed interested to meet them.

Sarah & Nicola not so nice, very mardy and diva-ish.

@LuluLehman my DH was once a guest at a dinner party with lovely Mr Redmayne. He had NO IDEA who he was but did ask him had he seen him on the telly 😳, Eddie to his credit said he'd done 'a few' films... DH left escorting a very drunk ( but also lovely) Janet Street Porter in a cab... but that's another story.
My girls knew at once who he had been sat opposite all evening and were fuming he didn't get a pic.

My partner met Jim Carson and Imelda Staunton when they were on holiday and looked round the garden he works at. He said they were absolutely lovely. Couldn't believe how tiny she was but they were both so friendly and chatty and asked lots of questions.Thought they were so friendly and down to earth

Jim CARTER! I know why you wrote it though. I can imagine they're a really nice couple.

@UserTwentyMillion first or second time round for jlo and Ben?

First time round 😁

UserTwentyMillion · 16/03/2023 21:16

Oooh just remembered Lenny Henry…. My ex worked in a comic shop and he came in expecting free stuff because he was famous, was also pretty rude apparently.

Now I want to know who your DH is to be at a dinner party with ER and JSP!!

Denise Welch behaved appallingly towards a little lass in a shoe shop 20-odd years ago.

She acted like an absolute *rsey mare and had the girl close to tears. I'm ashamed to say that I didn't intervene but stood aghast, as did everyone else.

I honestly think none of us could believe it. A complete and utter cowbag.

Wilkolampshade · 17/03/2023 08:23

@NewCarOldCar 😅 someone with absolutely zero public presence, no media coverage, no stariness. Just been working in an arts type field in a purely backroom type support role for nearly 40 years.
I should point out I don't get to go to any of these do's! And they're not very frequent.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/03/2023 12:00

Anyone met Ben Shephard ? ( Tipping Point and tonnes of other programmes )

He always looks nice and friendly on TV and I would struggle to believe he throws his toys out of the pram.

Vinorosso74 · 17/03/2023 13:31

DP met Ben Shepherd at a corporate thing at an Arsenal match years ago. He spoke with him for a while and said he was nice to have a chat with and was like that towards everyone. He did say, despite other drinks being available, he only drank water.

CountryMouse22 · 17/03/2023 16:23

JoanThursday1972 · 10/03/2023 18:53

Or Scott Gorham.

Ah, now you're talking! Guitar god of Thin Lizzy.

mimiarm7 · 18/03/2023 00:42

I was in a bar one night and Liam Neeson and Jimmy Nesbitt were together having drinks. Both were having a laugh. Jimmy Nesbit was more than happy to have pics taken with our group - Liam Neeson was also happy to join in for the pics but he was so drunk he could barely stand up or talk. Both very pleasant.

Met Brendan Fraser at a bar. He was happy to be in a pic but I wasn't familiar with iPhones at the time and he jested with me about how I must be the only person on the planet that couldn't take a pic on an iPhone!

If anyone remembers the band the Magic Numbers - met them at a bar one night and couldn't have been any friendlier. It was my birthday and they were playing at a local festival a few days later. The male in the group (the brother) said he would arrange for tickets to be left at the ticket booth for me and a friend as a birthday gift to me. Turned up to the festival a few days later and tickets were indeed there. His sister gave me a happy birthday shout out on stage during their set. I went back to the same bar I had met them at after the gig and they were there and came over to me once they saw me to ask if I enjoyed it. The male then invited me to an after party but I politely declined.

mimiarm7 · 18/03/2023 00:45

If there are any guitar music fans here, also met Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Paul Gilbert a number of times.

Joe - so lovely and modest.

Steve - friendly and pleasant but a bit moody and show off-y

Paul - so lovely and modest - his wife is also very nice.

Yes! I was keeping my mouth shut because everyone was saying how nice he was, but when I met him he was really grumpy. I thought he was like the quintessential comic who is all loveable on screen/stage but a complete miserable a*hole irl.

Noodles1234 · 18/03/2023 06:15

Yes I have, where I work and he couldn’t have been more polite, even when he may have been a little tipsy.

ClaireEclair · 18/03/2023 08:05

@mimiarm7 I met the brother from the Magic Numbers on a night out in Camden and he was absolutely lovely! I was a bit drunk and didn’t recognise him at first. My housemate was really drunk and asked for some of his chips in exchange for a bite of his sausage which he found hilarious. He was a very sweet man as were his friends.

I’m so pleased you’ve said this. I met SM and thought he was rude and arrogant too. People just can’t believe it of him.

Iain Lee is rude and abrasive.

Chico was such a lovely man. As is Andy Sinton.

i used to like Stephen Mulhern but can’t stand him. He did an interview during the last im a celeb with ant and Dec and came across as quite an arse and rude! I was shocked as I’d never seen that about him before and really x xx liked that they used him in their show. Now I cringe whenever I see him, which is difficult because SNT is one of my fave programmes

katseyes7 · 18/03/2023 10:09

mimiarm7 My ex worked in tv (crew, not on screen) for decades, and he said James Nesbitt was one of the nicest people he ever met. He'd remember the crew's names and he once stopped my ex on the stairs to ask how his mum was, knowing she was seriously ill from the last time they'd worked together.

HaveTheDayOff · 18/03/2023 10:43

I met Our Graham back in the 80’s. Despite it being at the peak of his career he was lovely and spent time talking to everyone. No one knew what he looked like but we all recognised his voice. He even gave us a quick reminder of the encounter before he left. Such a legend. They don’t make stars like that anymore.

AnnieSnap · 18/03/2023 11:24

Just reflecting on some contributions to the thread. I can see why otherwise perfectly nice people would get pissed off at being asked to be in a selfie. They must be almost constantly photographed by random people as well as the press. Some people say it’s a price they should pay for their success. I don’t think that’s fair. They are just human beings after all.

I really agree with this.

I had a weird period on my life when my now ex DH was in the public eye - to the extent we had people approaching him in the street asking for selfies, autographs, taking photos when we were out and even writing to him, sending emails etc ( did get an extraordinary amount of random free stuff as well!). It was only a tiny glimpse of what properly famous people must get and for a short while, but it really was quite overwhelming, odd ( I honestly had to try and not laugh at people asking him to sign stuff) and not that pleasant. Im actually amazed that some
people remain so kind and understanding of it!

I’m delighted that a pp has confirmed that Keith Flint is as adorable as I imagined. RIP sweet man.

I’d love to hear from anyone who’s met:

Richard Ayoade
Bob Mortimer
Ian Wright

(please don’t break my heart!)

DH has met Ian Wright (assuming you mean the footballer) loads of times through work and says he is a gem - totally lovely, top bloke.

limitedperiodonly · 18/03/2023 16:21

Ian Wright was nice to me. Not in an over-the-top or creepy way but in a professional yet friendly manner. What else do you want? I meet famous people on a professional basis and lots of people can sometimes be needlessly rude just because they can, or fake nice when you and they know they despise you or downright sleazy. I was primed to think he was a git because of what a colleague told me but I came out of the encounter thinking it was them rather than him.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 18/03/2023 17:53

Yes, there's definitely an element of some people like that - the ones who will tell you quite categorically how rude, horrible and completely dismissive of their fans a celebrity is, just because they weren't sweetly compliant when they shoved an autograph book under the toilet door whilst they were trying to have a poo in peace!
