Nicest/not nice celebs.

1000 replies

bazzabas · 10/03/2023 11:58

Who is the nicest celeb you've met?

On the flip side who was not nice?

I had a friend who met Girl's Aloud after she won a competition.

They waited hours to met them, waiting for them to arrive.

Apparently Nadine was lovely, chatted and genuinely seemed interested to meet them.

Sarah & Nicola not so nice, very mardy and diva-ish.

Actually he's had unspecified mental health problems. Depression is my interpretation. Apologies.

Oh, now I feel guilty for what I said earlier about him. Apologies M.R

@FKATondelayo
I didn't know he had depression, maybe that's why he always looks miserable whenever I see him on the box.

I mean, the man has been through a lot in the last couple of years. He’s been racially abused for missing major penalties for his club and country! He’s done his best to raise the profile for children who have free school meals, all whilst being pushed, pulled and prodded to within an inch of his life!! He’s not been on his a-game as a result of all that! I mean god forbid him looking a bit glum, sometimes when you’re being trolled on social media, one might not feel
like smiling!

as a big United fan I’m gutted at some of the stick Marcus has got on this thread!!

Clawdy · 13/03/2023 19:35

Marcus visited one of his old schools where my sister works, and she said he was an absolute delight, the kids loved him. So did the staff, even the City fans! 😄

PP have mentioned Antony Cotton. Never met him personally but have heard 3 different stories about him.

Friend 1 works in customer service for a bank and had him absolutely screaming down the phone at her because something wasn't going his way, can't remember what. He uttered the immortal line "do you know who I am?"

Friend 2 realised he'd left his wallet at a self-checkout and shouted "excuse me" as he walked off. AC yelled "fuck off!" without even turning round.

Friend 3 acted on Corrie throughout the 80s and 90s, doesn't act any more through choice. Met him at some posh do and said "oh hello, I used to work on Corrie too." He looked at her for a moment and said "used to" before turning away. Friend thought that was hilarious, plus I'm pretty sure that more people would recognise her than him even after all these years!

He comes up as being a horror on every one of these threads!
What an arse he sounds.

I've never heard a bad word spoken about Ed Sheeran.

I live in the village next to Ed. He is allowed to be himself which I love. He donated Lego to a local primary school too!!

Ourshoddyhouse · 13/03/2023 21:10

Rob Beckett was lovely even though I was jabbering on (I was ever so slightly pissed).

I've seen him in passing since a couple of times &he smiled and gave a little wave.

Oh yes, you have the measure of Cotton alright. I'm the one who posted earlier about him. Those stories about him will be 100 percent true. An absolute odious little toad. For sure, that guy would not spit on you if you were on fire. And his real name is actually Anthony Dunn. Pretty sure he's an only child.

Kazz36 · 13/03/2023 22:43

I met Francis Rossi many many years ago. He was in Dublin doing a few concerts. We were in the hotel for a meal that he was staying in. He was so friendly and very patient signing autographs for us all. ( 6 cousins & 2 adults)
My mam was the most starstruck of us all!

I also met Yvonne Keating. I am a hairstylist. She is the most loveliest, kind, down to earth lady. An excellent tipper also☺️

Antony Cotton came into the hairdresser when I was there once and he was pleasant enough but wasn't there for long. I have however seen more comments from many sources about what a nightmare he is!

Showdogworkingdog · 13/03/2023 23:47

Clive Owen ( just after he’d done Chancer, pre Hollywood) was with a friend,. His friend found us a pen and seemed really pleased that his mate had been recognised. Clive was friendly and seemed quite shy.

Ken Dodd spoke to everyone who waited to see him after a long, long stage performance. He must have been knackered but he was joking with everyone and was so lovely.

Bob Carolgees (sp?) this was in the 1990s when he was occasionally on Noel’s House Party. Full of himself. Disappointing.

Has anyone ever met Morten Harket? He’s always been my go to crush but I have never ran into him. I live in hope.

Christerbell · 14/03/2023 07:43

Dawn French. Right up her own ar..
she sat in front of us at a Stevie Wonder concert years ago. Came across as Miss Important, we didn’t like her at all. With Lenny who was smiley but she wasn’t going to engage with anyone. She pulled her massive duffel coat collar up around her face and charged off after the show. Who wanted to speak to her? Or gave a toss? Not nice at all

What do you mean by 'pretty sure he's an only child'??

He isn't an only child. He has an older brother, Andrew.

I've said it on MN before and I'll say it again Nick Knowles rude arshole! Knowingly queue jumped me by flashing a wad of cash, with a I know you know who I am look on his face.

Yep he comes across that way, can't watch anything with him in it.

YoureBreakingMyHeartCecilia · 14/03/2023 09:32

I have a few!

Matt Damon - only a brief interaction but very pleasant indeed. He was much bigger than I'd have thought, not tall but extremely wide :)

Lulu - met her in a loo in a restaurant and she was really chatty and nice to me and very little DD, it was not long after lockdown had ended so maybe she was extra happy! She went out of her way to speak to us rather than the other way around, I didn't tell her I knew who she was (same with Matt Damon) but she didn't seem to be doing that whole 'do you recognise me' thing. Whereas Geri Hallliwell (who I only walked past once in South of France) was DEFINITELY doing the whole do you recognise me thing, with three massive bouncers to keep people away (and attract attention, she was so small that if she'd just put on a hat and kept her head down, you'd never have known it was her!)

DH was shopping in London supermarket when he realised he was looking at the same shelf as Kylie! Tiny and very very unassuming, he said.

Neil Morrissey - not a fan of his actually but he was really very nice, again only a v brief interaction.

Eddie Redmayne - he apologised to me when I bumped into him (by accident) in a dept store - he was on his phone so it was an extremely brief interaction but he was very polite (and insanely beautiful).

Penelope Keith (!!!) was really lovely and charming to my gran when she approached her in a car park and told her what a fan she was!

Sat next to most of Blur in a restaurant once years ago just as they were getting REALLY famous, they were a bit too-cool-for-school but fairly unassuming. They had an aura about them though.

Sat a few tables along from Julianna Margulies in a restaurant once, didn't have any interaction with her so it doesn't really count but she was pleasant to the staff (though have read stories about her being less than nice) and quite staggeringly beautiful to look at, she glowed.

Gregg Wallace (I know!!!) was nice!! Bit of an idiot but quite sweet, if that makes sense.

A friend met Pink and said she was tiny and very nice.

My mum once got in a taxi and the driver was Amy Winehouse's dad (this was some time before she sadly passed away) - my mum had no idea who Amy Winehouse was but phoned me to tell me she'd been in a taxi with a nice driver who had talked and talked all about his famous pop star daughter! :( I think about him every time I read anything about Amy Winehouse.

Have heard from a friend who works in PR that Dawn French was not nice, which made me a bit sad. Same friend says Ewan McGregor charming but a bit sleazy.

An acquaintance is very good friends with Tamara Rojo (ballerina) who sounds absolutely delightful.

Think that's all I can remember!

YoureBreakingMyHeartCecilia · 14/03/2023 09:36

Oh, one final one - my friend lives fairly near Helena Bonham Carter and has spoken to her in a shop once or twice, apparently she was very nice, my DH has also had an interaction with her when he was meeting same friend in that area and said she was being very nice to someone's dog in the cafe they were in. I think she really does dress like she's lost her way in a jumble sale, very unique look and genuinely eccentric, nice person though.

Giggorata · 14/03/2023 09:45

The late Brian Aldiss was lovely to me when I met him at the World Science Fiction conventions, which he used to MC. I accosted him years ago and told him that one of his books was the first SF I’d read as a child and he was truly delighted that he had been the one who started me into a lifetime of SF!
He remembered me every time after that and we'd have a chat. I have a photo of us from his last UK Worldcon, which was also his 90th birthday.

I also met David Tennant and Peter Davison with Robert Silverberg in the bar at the last London Worldcon, who were all friendly and pleasant to the many fans who clustered around them.

I've met loads of other SF authors and actors, all at conventions.
Highlights include Xenia Seeberg, who played Xev Bellringer in Lexx, who was the sweetest and happiest lady and charmed everyone.
Rick Farraci, a martial artist who played various roles in many Canadian SF productions. We had dinner with him and his wife and it was the best evening; they were entertaining and funny and totally natural, nice people.
Terry Pratchett was always great value and would sign anything that didn't move. After a fire alarm in the middle of the night at one of the convention hotels, he could be seen signing something for a fan in the lift!

prh47bridge · 14/03/2023 10:11

Years ago, I worked with someone whose house was used in an episode of The Professionals. They were filming for 3 days, but the house was on screen for about 5 minutes in the finished episode. She talked about how lovely Gordon Jackson was, with time for everyone.

She was less impressed with one of the other stars, but I was never clear whether she meant Martin Shaw or Lewis Collins. It probably didn't help that, having got his autograph, she asked him to sign using his stage name. He, rather grumpily but quite correctly, said, "That IS my stage name". She had wanted him to sign as his character (Bodie or Doyle) and thought that was what a stage name was.

Marcus Rashford, not a pleasant man at all, watch this space.

@Busbygirl during Marcus's campaign for school meals in which he was whupping Tory arses I used to paraphrase Smokey Robinson and the Miracles' Just My Imagination.

Every night on my knees I'd say: "Dear Lord, hear my prayer. Don't let Marcus be caught snorting coke off the tits of a hooker."

And despite the best efforts of the Daily Mail, and between you and me they had a lot of money and motivation to throw at discrediting him, the best they could come up with was that he'd bought his mum a house and owned five buy-to-let modest family homes in the Greater Manchester area.

But if you know better I'll watch your space.

The Temptations' version of Just My Imagination always makes me blub. It's sublime and full of such hope and good feeling to which we should all aspire, don't you think?

Here it is

God bless you. Your post made me laugh. That’s a very specific request
I think i’ll do the same- pray for him.
You know they’ll never stop actively trying to find dirt on him. How dare he…

SmugglersHaunt · 14/03/2023 10:55

Pamela Anderson was lovely and very down-to-earth. Marilyn Manson diva-ish and obsessed with his make-up being perfect. Justin Hawkins from The Darkness was rude (but off his face).
Beastie Boys were quite friendly. Sarah Michelle-Gellar was nice and very professional.

Alexa51 · 14/03/2023 12:38

@SmugglersHaunt If you watch Pamela A's Netflix documentary, she comes across as such a nice down-to-earth person. She was so beautiful in her day.

A while ago I went to a webinar presented by someone who worked for an advertising/talent management agency and she said that it's usually the D listers who are unpleasant and ridiculously demanding. You'd wonder why the agencies etc pander to them - here today gone tomorrow - who cares about them? I'd tell them to put up and shut up but I guess that's why I am not in that line of business!

Sadly (for us) she was professionally discreet and didn't give us any clues about who the nice and naughty ones were!

Blueberrymuffin03 · 14/03/2023 13:34

Maybe he didn't think so or shockingly maybe he doesn't like dogs.

Easy to judge the character of a person who doesn't like dogs.
