Nicest/not nice celebs.

1000 replies

bazzabas · 10/03/2023 11:58

Who is the nicest celeb you've met?

On the flip side who was not nice?

I had a friend who met Girl's Aloud after she won a competition.

They waited hours to met them, waiting for them to arrive.

Apparently Nadine was lovely, chatted and genuinely seemed interested to meet them.

Sarah & Nicola not so nice, very mardy and diva-ish.

I'm disappointed to hear that about Dawn French. Surely it can't be true...

I'm not surprised, I think she always comes across as being very self important, while Jennifer Saunders is much more likeable.

Dawn French. Right up her own ar..
she sat in front of us at a Stevie Wonder concert years ago. Came across as Miss Important, we didn’t like her at all. With Lenny who was smiley but she wasn’t going to engage with anyone. She pulled her massive duffel coat collar up around her face and charged off after the show. Who wanted to speak to her? Or gave a toss? Not nice at all

In defence of Dawn, she probably does get a lot of attention when out in public. Even if you weren’t planning on making any contact you clearly noticed her enough to see how she was reacting and she can probably read the signs of people that might be about to approach them.

Maybe she was having a bad day, maybe she just wanted a night out with her husband without being approached by fans. She and Lenny divorced so maybe this was when they were going through a bad patch and she was upset. Famous people don’t own us anything on their days off.

@Nellieinthebarn I met Jennifer Saunders and Ade Edmondson at a wedding. He was lovely, she was a bit stand off-ish (but much more friendly to my husband than towards me!)

Nicest I’ve met - Rhod Gilbert. Really lovely man who had overheard a disagreement I’d had with another comedian about a rape joke and took time to be supportive and tell me he thought I was right in what I’d said.

Tim Minchin also lovely.

Least nice - Russell Crowe.

Jealous that you’ve met Tim Minchin 😊😅

William and Catherine are both very nice, extremely skilled in appearing to be entirely engaged with the person they’re speaking to. Whether they really are or not, who knows.

Ruth Jones is a miserable arse

Shocked with Ruth Jones always kinda imagined she would be lovely IRL

Interesting. It must be awkward being a celebrity at a wedding, its really not the done thing to overshadow the bride. I supposed it depends on the ego of the celebrity if that would bother them or not. Not making a comment on Jennifer Saunders at all, it just struck me that other people's weddings must a bit of a minefield as a guest if you have any level of fame.

@FromDespairToHere
Oh yes, you have the measure of Cotton alright. I'm the one who posted earlier about him. Those stories about him will be 100 percent true. An absolute odious little toad. For sure, that guy would not spit on you if you were on fire. And his real name is actually Anthony Dunn. Pretty sure he's an only child.

You didn’t answer someone else who asked, so I’m also going to ask. What has Antony Cotton being horrible got to do with not having siblings? Sounds like an ignorant dig at only children that says more about you tbh.

ilovemydogandmrobama2 · 14/03/2023 20:31

Jonny Depp - DH ran into him in Cornwall while walking dogs, think after filming Pirates in the Caribbean? Really lovely chatting about the dogs, and local pubs. Apparently went into local pub later in full pirate regalia.

Tom Cruise - total knob.

Jamie Oliver - the, 'happy Chappy,' does get way more animated in front of cameras.

Lily Collins (Emily in Paris) - total diva and not happy to speak to the little people.

Easy to judge the character of a person who doesn't like dogs.

How about people who do like dogs? What do we think of them?

GoodChat · 14/03/2023 21:28

@WalkingOnTheCracks that they're not psychopaths

Unless you count Hitler, who was reputed to be very fond of his dogs. But he probably was an exception.

Shirley crabtree was my dad's best friend and they used to go to bingo together 🤣🤣🤣 lovely man

This is a coincidence - I',ve mentioned Shirley Crabtree (Big Daddy(on another thread (God alone knows which one - we were talking about baby names but I've lost it now

I only knew him from watching the wrestling with my Grannie. Him and his brother, Brian the referee.

I loved Saturday wrestling with Kent Walton. Those were the days! 😃

Ooh. Does this count as a sleb gossip thread? Dear Gwynnie has a new wellness routine to flog

Timmy Mallett was an absolute idiot

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 14/03/2023 23:04

Friend 2 realised he'd left his wallet at a self-checkout and shouted "excuse me" as he walked off. AC yelled "fuck off!" without even turning round.

Reminds me of a nasty version of that character in Bridget Jones, where somebody gets the bloke's attention and he assumes it's a fan wanting to tell him how amazing he is; but it's just actually that his chair leg is on somebody's coat!

Username721 · 14/03/2023 23:07

Posted way back in the thread about Kirsty Allsopp. Can’t believe nobody’s met her?!

Stephen Mulhern. Arrogant, rude and entitled.

Dom Wood from Dick and Dom. An absolute darling and total gentleman.

I’m so pleased you’ve said this. I met SM and thought he was rude and arrogant too. People just can’t believe it of him.

Iain Lee is rude and abrasive.

Chico was such a lovely man. As is Andy Sinton.

I have a few!

Matt Damon - only a brief interaction but very pleasant indeed. He was much bigger than I'd have thought, not tall but extremely wide :)

Lulu - met her in a loo in a restaurant and she was really chatty and nice to me and very little DD, it was not long after lockdown had ended so maybe she was extra happy! She went out of her way to speak to us rather than the other way around, I didn't tell her I knew who she was (same with Matt Damon) but she didn't seem to be doing that whole 'do you recognise me' thing. Whereas Geri Hallliwell (who I only walked past once in South of France) was DEFINITELY doing the whole do you recognise me thing, with three massive bouncers to keep people away (and attract attention, she was so small that if she'd just put on a hat and kept her head down, you'd never have known it was her!)

DH was shopping in London supermarket when he realised he was looking at the same shelf as Kylie! Tiny and very very unassuming, he said.

Neil Morrissey - not a fan of his actually but he was really very nice, again only a v brief interaction.

Eddie Redmayne - he apologised to me when I bumped into him (by accident) in a dept store - he was on his phone so it was an extremely brief interaction but he was very polite (and insanely beautiful).

Penelope Keith (!!!) was really lovely and charming to my gran when she approached her in a car park and told her what a fan she was!

Sat next to most of Blur in a restaurant once years ago just as they were getting REALLY famous, they were a bit too-cool-for-school but fairly unassuming. They had an aura about them though.

Sat a few tables along from Julianna Margulies in a restaurant once, didn't have any interaction with her so it doesn't really count but she was pleasant to the staff (though have read stories about her being less than nice) and quite staggeringly beautiful to look at, she glowed.

Gregg Wallace (I know!!!) was nice!! Bit of an idiot but quite sweet, if that makes sense.

A friend met Pink and said she was tiny and very nice.

My mum once got in a taxi and the driver was Amy Winehouse's dad (this was some time before she sadly passed away) - my mum had no idea who Amy Winehouse was but phoned me to tell me she'd been in a taxi with a nice driver who had talked and talked all about his famous pop star daughter! :( I think about him every time I read anything about Amy Winehouse.

Have heard from a friend who works in PR that Dawn French was not nice, which made me a bit sad. Same friend says Ewan McGregor charming but a bit sleazy.

An acquaintance is very good friends with Tamara Rojo (ballerina) who sounds absolutely delightful.

Think that's all I can remember!

I met Eddie Redmayne too and he was so funny and attentive and yes he really is more beautiful than he appears onscreen.

FunnyCradock · 15/03/2023 00:45

DH met Kerry Godliman (After Life…& more) outside John Lewis on Oxford Street. She was delightful, totally down to earth & even humoured him with a friendly chat after he struck up a conversation. and a selfie!

DrMeredithGrey2023 · 15/03/2023 07:52

YoureBreakingMyHeartCecilia · 14/03/2023 09:36

Oh, one final one - my friend lives fairly near Helena Bonham Carter and has spoken to her in a shop once or twice, apparently she was very nice, my DH has also had an interaction with her when he was meeting same friend in that area and said she was being very nice to someone's dog in the cafe they were in. I think she really does dress like she's lost her way in a jumble sale, very unique look and genuinely eccentric, nice person though.

I really like her (as an actor, never met her) but whenever I hear her so much as talking on a podcast/tv I swear I instantly smell cigarette smoke 🤣

GoodChat · 15/03/2023 09:14

@Clawdy maybe they were just misunderstood

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 15/03/2023 09:59

The mention of meeting Lulu in a loo has left me giggling far more than it ever should!

Iain Lee is rude and abrasive. Wasn't it he who stormed off The Wright Stuff when he was challenged and criticised in a very similar way to how he does/did all the time to others in his line of 'comedy'? I can't remember the full story now, but it did seem quite DARVO-ish if I'm recalling it correctly.

Matthew Wright has always been a Marmite person, but at least he could always take it as well as give it.
