This snow is inadequate

I've had met office weather warnings of snow for the past 3 days.

Yes I've had snow but its the crap beanbag filling type snow that is gone within the hour. I want big chunky flakes bleaching down, while I sit on my sofa looking out of the window.

2/10

We had a bit of snow yesterday, kids could make a small snowman and they closed the school but it turned to sleet in the afternoon, so it's mostly gone. Go barely 10 miles away and there's quite a bit of snow though. Jwe are just outside the amber Warning in Wales.

Ylvamoon · 10/03/2023 07:56

We have lovely fluffy snowflakes at the moment so 10/10 for that!

But it is struggling to settle on the ground- that's 1/10

My overall rating is 6/10!!

Rowthe · 10/03/2023 07:56

Schools are shut.

And if I was working today would have had to ring in to say cant make it in cos roads are too bad

I would like to get home today! Currently near Luton in a lovely BnB booked last minute as knew I would struggle to drive back to Peak District last night. AA shows my main routes are closed at moment.

I'm near the Peak District and it's pretty snowed up. Many routes in the Peaks are closed:
Derbyshire County Council

Snow and high winds overnight causing very difficult conditions in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales. We also have some trees that have fallen down due to the weight of snow blocking some roads.
The advice is do not travel. Stuck vehicles are causing issues.
Most roads in the High Peak are closed, with only the A6 from Bakewell through Buxton to New Mills still open.
Main roads closed include:

The A6024 Holme Moss
Rushup Edge - Castleton to Chapel road
Winnats Pass - Castleton to Chapel road
Perryfoot - Sparrowpit to Winnats Pass road
A57 Snake Pass
The Cat and Fiddle road, A54 and A537
A53 - Buxton to Leek road
A5004 Long Hill between Buxton and Whaley Bridge
A515 - Buxton to Ashbourne road

A5012 Via Gellia
A621 Owler Bar road
A623 Barmoorclough to Calver
A624 Chapel to Glossop
A61 Dronfield bypass is passable with care as there is a fallen tree
The A628 Woodhead Pass also remains closed by National Highways.

In the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales our gritters have spent the night clearing the main roads, but in many cases snow has blown back on them by the winds.
In the east and south of the county all primary and secondary routes were gritted this afternoon.
Gritting crews continue to work around the clock to respond to the changing conditions along with our farmer contractors who were out clearing roads local to them yesterday afternoon and are going out again from first light.

We are Sheffield too and had emails at 9pm last night saying DCs school was closed today. They closed early yesterday too. Did your DDS stay open all day?

They stayed open but we had the option of early collection. We are now confirmed as closed as we have a good foot of snow here (S7)

emmathedilemma · 10/03/2023 08:03

No snow here so that's a 10/10 IMO!!

AllOfThemWitches · 10/03/2023 08:04

I'm happy with inadequate snow

Thriwit · 10/03/2023 08:09

I will upgrade my previous 2/10 to 7/10.
In the 15 minutes I was in the shower this morning, we went from nothing to completely covered. School’s now closed, but I wouldn’t be able to get there anyway because my road’s now impassable (I’m on a hill - one car’s just gone into my neighbour’s front wall and everyone else is just spinning and sliding).

RafaistheKingofClay · 10/03/2023 08:14

We had the promise of snow but it’s done nothing but rain. 0/10

TeaserandtheFirecat · 10/03/2023 08:22

@CaptainMyCaptain What a vivid scene that info from Derbys CC conjures up! I can imagine the farmer contractors grimly setting forth over hill and dale at first light to save the day. Marvellous!

InMySpareTime · 10/03/2023 08:24

It's been snowing on and off for almost 3 days now, and the snow cover is zero inches deep.
It's just wet. Thanks Manchester Snow Shield.

I'm in Bolton,it was like that all day yesterday but.started sticking a bit last night ,nothing exciting though maybe half an inch 🙄

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 10/03/2023 08:53

We have ShitLoads (official met office terminology) school closed(I’m support staff so no stupid teams for me!) usually I’d be chuffed, but my new kitchen is supposed to be delivered today, my old one is ripped out and all I have is a kettle, sink and air fryer. And my whippet is refusing to leave the house.

Mrsjayy · 10/03/2023 08:56

We have no snow we had flurries yesterday gone today and it's bright but cold. I'm in Central Scotland.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/03/2023 09:06

I was on a course 15 miles away yesterday and the snow was proper snow. Drone back to my city and it was 0/10!

Polis · 10/03/2023 09:07

We have snow and I had to come in to work today. The first ten miles or so until I got to the main road were awful but not too bad after that. It’s days like today and yesterday that I’m glad I have a 4x4.

RumNotRun · 10/03/2023 09:13

Nothing here. We had a bit on Wednesday but not enough to stop anything. Sun and blue sky today, although still a bit nippy.

RudsyFarmer · 10/03/2023 09:15

I would have said the same OP but the snow is chunky now and settling.

Chooba · 10/03/2023 09:18

I'm still on 1/10. I just have a few flakes and a lot of wet.

fitflopqueen · 10/03/2023 09:32

Thank you for the updates, I am going to try M1, A50 and A34 rather than my lovely hilly drive, so rather long route but ok on A6 from Stockport toward Buxton

Be careful, I'm not too far from there and I have over seven inches. The roads are just not possible to pass in places

Lessstressedhemum · 10/03/2023 10:01

Not so much as a flake here. It sucks. I wanted a snow tornado a la Shetland. But no, clear blue skies, sunshine and Baltic wind😡 typical West of Scotland.

itsgettingweird · 10/03/2023 10:05

We haven't had a flake despite warnings.

So cannot score more than a 0 here!

emmathedilemma · 10/03/2023 10:06

Same here @Lessstressedhemum but I think it’s much more preferable to snow!
