Continuation of previous threads (thread 5).

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

I have to admit that a white, middle aged, middle class male poster deciding that this is just a silly white middle class women's issue did make me laugh a bit.

Groupthink is a real thing. People don't want to be on the outside so they will go along with the prevailing view as long as it means they get to feel included in the big group. Thus you get middle aged white men and women arguing that people shouldn't be listened to because they are white and middle aged. They think agreeing with the mob means you won't get picked on yourself, same as the kids who went along with the bullies in school, they knew in their hearts it was wrong but they were terrified of being the ones on the receiving end of the abuse. It's relevant to the comment I made earlier, people admit the arguments GCs make are correct but they still side with their opponents because they are percieved as the ones with all the power. The only thing about it all that perplexes me is why so many adults are behaving the way we all did when we were teens? peer pressure shouldn't still be a thing when you're in your forties and fifties but the internet has really done a number on society.

But surely people with brane can see GC feminists and the far right disagree with genderism for completely different reasons? Surely?

I think that people who don't have a strong position will, if they see alternative sources of accounts of the events, less so, if they read the papers.

Those invested in the TWAW rubbish will never condescend to, even if the violence becomes far more serious. They're so far down that path that they are simply unable to pause and reset.

Unfortunately, going by the online writing we've seen, from so many of them, they'd be delighted to see an escalation and would support it, no matter what.

Dotellhimpike · 25/03/2023 13:41

Having just seen some of the videos from New Zealand, it's hard to fathom how much worse it can get without someone being killed. I would have been terrified to have walked through that crowd, and I am a brick shithouse of a man.

I was aprticularly moved by the words of this woman who was a steward at the event.

That’s a great story @SinnerBoy . Sir Boyd Tunnock sounds like a fictional character and looks just like a fictional Sir Boyd Tunnock should look. It has a great second mention too “The 90-year-old biscuit boss”.

Loved this too:

Two excellent bits of Tunnocks news.

Ginmonkeyagain · 25/03/2023 14:44

"90 year old biscuit boss" - I have updated my life goals.

Britinme · 25/03/2023 14:47

If only such a status could be earned by actually eating biscuits, I'd be well on my way there.

SinnerBoy · 25/03/2023 15:12

That's a very imaginative sculpture, Winterborne

And he's a very young looking 90!

Gonners · 25/03/2023 15:15

And he's a very young looking 90!

Isn't he an excellent advert for his product!

FFS somehow I must have unwatched this thread and I only realised when I came actively looking for it. Also failed to follow the general women’s rights thread for the first several pages. Anyway, the culmination of this morning’s banter in the other place is that Teh Modz have started two (2) more trans threads and invited people to start MOAR. This should come as a huge relief to any concern trolls who got confused about the original thread not sticking exclusively to women’s rights.

bignosebignose · 25/03/2023 17:00

*latest iteration of the general women’s rights thread

I feel I may have missed my vocation: biscuit boss sounds like an excellent thing to be. I am very cheered by the existence of 90 year old Sir Boyd Tunnock.

It’s very fitting that his boat is named after caramel spelled backwards. I definitely want to see the movie version of the women’s epic challenge with their kindly benefactor, the biscuit boss.

StephanieSuperpowers · 25/03/2023 18:35

I'm just very depressed today. It's been a very wearing few days reading about women's rights. Can't seem to stay off the topic though. I honestly dread where all this is leading. I fear that even if a woman is killed, people won't care.

Kucinghitam · 25/03/2023 18:48

It is depressing @StephanieSuperpowers, all I can suggest is finding a whole bunch of other stuff to distract yourself with. Music. Or walks. Or TV. Or gardening. Or possibly Snyder's Jalapeño Pretzel pieces <pungent burp>.

Oh, spicy carbs and a massive "glass"of wine is probably the answer!!!

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 25/03/2023 19:56

Yesterday was particularly grim in Ireland with a lot of news stories about murdered women (a cold case, a review of a trial from some years ago, and some more more recent stuff) as well as the aformentioned - kept me awake half the night.

StephanieSuperpowers · 25/03/2023 20:10

Grim. I think if it wasn't for my daughter, I'd just give up and not leave the house again.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/03/2023 20:48

Oh, spicy carbs and a massive "glass"of wine is probably the answer!!!

By an amazing coincidence that is what I am having too! Wine

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 25/03/2023 21:02

tis well for ye, I'm off the sauce for Lent

I shall try to sprinkle a little light relief. I went dog walking with my friend's son, 15 and daughter 13. The daughter told me that her year had a three hour sex education lesson.

"Three whole hours!" I exclaimed, "What was it that took them so long to tell you?".

She said one part had made her laugh out loud, which got her into trouble. The teacher said "masturbation causes you to be depressed ".

I was puzzled that modern sex ed woukd deliver a line like this then I remembered it's a Catholic school. "Yes", young madam said - "God hates sex so you need to be married"

"Catholicism is all blood and guilt," said I. "The blood of Jesus and the guilt of original sin".

"Jesus is a bit tight" she said, "It's all 'me me' with him".

I also learned that under the impact of Covid a lot of Geography had been ditched but "the teachers are massive simps for climate change"

My friend's daughter is worth her weight in gold.

I'm seeing more and more comments across social media where people, mostly men it has to be said, are saying that "yes the TERFs are technically right in what they are saying but who wants to be on the same side as transphobes?"

This is insane.

I have been mulling this over. I have looked at it up, down and sideways, and I cannot make it make sense.

If TERFs are right about the thing that being wrong about means they're transphobic, how are they transphobes?

(I mean the whole, 'I'd rather be wrong than agree with people I don't like' is batshit in itself, but when it's the same point on both sides of the equation ....)

Back to the spicy carbs☆ it is, then.

☆ Chilli mango lentil tortilla chips. They were an experimental purchase, and I'm not sure I'll repeat it. Very spicy, and the mango flavour is a bit weird.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 25/03/2023 21:24

Why does Covid = ditching geography?

NotDrowningJustCrowing · 25/03/2023 21:37

I watched a bit of that New Zealander comedy guy and what was he on about with transphobia being popular in the 1930s? Is this TRSOH arseholes rewriting history again?

The Auckland debacle is truly terrifying. They want her dead and if the police are happy to leave her unprotected, as they did in Auckland, those "be kind" types will get their wish. It's a fucking disgrace.
