Continuation of previous threads (thread 5).

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

Britinme · 16/03/2023 08:55

Yes! All clear now. Thanks @Ereshkigalangcleg

Dotellhimpike · 16/03/2023 08:55

Lovely pics of you Crows, you look like a baby. Mind you anyone under thirty looks like a baby to me these days.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/03/2023 08:58

Np @Britinme Smile

artant · 16/03/2023 16:13

Love those pics @NotDrowningJustCrowing

NotDrowningJustCrowing · 16/03/2023 17:05

Thank you lovely people. Django Reinhardt has an appointment for the dreaded snip. It's not until May 2nd because they are fully booked. The good news is it's only costing me five new pounds. The bad news is that he, and Francis, are going to despise me when it becomes clear that I'm not feeding them anything after 8pm the night before. My brain had forgotten that if one's going under general anesthesia it doesn't matter that you're a wee black cat, you still have to go nil by mouth.

MavisMcMinty · 16/03/2023 18:34

Ha ha, yes, @NotDrowningJustCrowing ! Mine just disappear whenever I think about taking them to the vet, and as they’re always absolutely fine a day later, they’ve saved me a few £ over the years.

Great pics btw. I remember how pleased I was when I met you that you were as cute (in all senses) IRL as you seemed on GUT.

NotDrowningJustCrowing · 16/03/2023 21:22

Aw, thank you @MavisMcMinty. Whenever I use the thermometer you gave me I think of you!

duc748 · 16/03/2023 23:20

Can't imagine... 😀

Kucinghitam · 17/03/2023 09:10

Latest house crisis: middle of the night, something tripped the downstairs sockets RCD. This led to me crawling around the downstairs all morning, switching off every socket, and attempting to reset the RCD. But nope it is not resetting. I'm pretty much 100% sure that I've switched off every downstairs socket unless there's one hiding under the floorboards, so I don't know what the hell is going on.

Am having to Internet from my phone, mainly to Google for emergency electricians.

(The previous house crisis of the broken bathroom is still not sorted, after 3 months and much chasing of tradespeople - but at least we have an actual date - the new bathroom work is due to start in 10 days' time).

There's no answer to that.

Oh no! We had a similar problem, a few years back. I took a stud wall out and re-positioned a socket in the floor, which tripped it at every movement nearby. It took a while to work out, but I tried disconnecting it (well, a mate made it safe) and it's been fine since.

I hope yours will be as simple!

SinnerBoy · 17/03/2023 09:47

Anyway, what's not to like about this one?

My car, never one of those clean and shiny looks-like-new vehicles is suffering from repeated damage caused by male sexual aggression.

Kucinghitam might try to persuade me that bluetits are cute, but when one of them becomes fixated on what he sees in the wing mirrors and spends hours trying to chase it away or shag it, the little white specks and slightly larger white blobs accumulate.

CyanCrystalViolet · 18/03/2023 13:09

Haha! I would LOVE to have a little car blue tit. Instead I get car seagulls swaggering about on the roof, shitting up the bonnet while angrily squawking.

MavisMcMinty · 18/03/2023 13:26

I had a spider living in my wing mirror that used to come all the way to work and back. I sometimes worried he’d go out for a stroll round the hospital and not be back in time to come home with me. Glad I didn’t have a wing mirror blue tit to eat the spidey.

Winterborne74 · 18/03/2023 13:51

Afternoon. We are also plagued by gulls.

Apropos of nothing, I’ve just read this sad story. Not always very keen on Simon Hattenstone but I think he’s done a good job here:

The best way to prevent your car from being a gull's latrine is to put cat food on the next but one. At least, I imagine it would be...

MavisMcMinty · 18/03/2023 16:04

You’d need a LOT of cat food - they’re real, er, gannets.

artant · 18/03/2023 16:07

The blue tit obsessed with its own reflection initially made me wonder whether blue tits are different to great tits in this respect as I’ve never had a great tit cosying up to my car. Then I remembered that my wing mirrors hid themselves away when I lock the car and I gave thanks for that!

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 19/03/2023 09:47

I tried to post to say:

For the honour of the species I have to point out that it's Not All Bluetits, not even All Male Bluetits. The garden is full of them and this only happened once before, at least fifteen years ago.

He is very persistent, and folding the mirrors back just encourages him to squeeze right in beside his target. My next move is going to be wrapping them in opaque plastic - probably dog poo bags, them being available and the right size. I think.

I'm only bothering because in this cold showery weather I don't want the little stinker to die because he's expending all his energy in this futile activity.

But (mis-spelt euphemism ahoy, this is what scuppered me last time) soxposts gotta soxpost.

CyanCrystalViolet · 19/03/2023 10:10

He’s clearly a narcissist. LTB. (Leave the bluetit).

You could hang some food from the wing mirror

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 19/03/2023 10:16

I had to stop filling the bird feeders in the front garden because of rats (who clearly use the 150+ year old front wall as a routeway), so I am definitely NOT hanging food on my car!

Winterborne74 · 19/03/2023 10:27

Yes, we had a bird food related rat incident a couple of years ago. The rats were far more interested than the birds, but I think the neighbourhood cats put the birds off. We do get the odd frog and newt despite not having a pond, but I’ve never had much success attracting many birds to the garden in this house.
