Continuation of previous threads (thread 5).

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

Poor K’s a little bit under the weather this morning after his jab yesterday so he’s getting some TLT (tender loving treats).

Being funny is important, but theyvare all comedians so that's a given. But within the overall comedian group there are those who are clever and interesting and know about lots of things; those who don't know about a lot of things but would like to and ask interesting questions; those who (regardless of what they may know) are there to talk about themselves; and those who are proud of not knowing stuff or like to mock people who do.

Groups 3 & 4 get too many repeat invitations.

MavisMcMinty · 15/03/2023 10:49

Heh, that “Panel Show” clip is excellent, especially Paul Merton’s “Is it a dolphin” recurrent joke.

weaseleyes · 15/03/2023 10:52

Poor K! I like the gracious, pained way in which he accepts your tender ministrations.

MavisMcMinty · 15/03/2023 10:52

Roisin Conaty always plays the thicko on these shows and it really annoys me (I’m thinking Cats Does Countdown but have seen her do it on HIGNFY too). She’s clearly not thick, so why does she pretend to be?

I didn’t recognise the name but knew exactly who you meant. And googling confirms.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 15/03/2023 11:32

Poor Kasper. I hope you're also reserving some TLT (though probably not the exact same treats) for yourself.

SqueakyDinosaur · 15/03/2023 11:36

Mmmm, Dreamies....

mach2 · 15/03/2023 11:40

I'm biased because I do some online work for QI, but I think you have a mistaken idea of what it is

Aye. I didn't bother watching - just saw the format and thought "naw".

MavisMcMinty · 15/03/2023 11:43

My cats will walk two or three miles for the rattle of a Dreamies packet.

macman has a great video where he shakes a packet from our (scaffolded for rethatching) roof, and Tashie races across the garden, dodging the dog’s attempted tackle, up the ladder, onto the thatch and up to the ridge, where she receives her reward. It could be used for a Dreamies advertising campaign, if only our feeble broadband allowed us to post videos.

duc748 · 15/03/2023 11:56

Wait... cats can climb ladders? Is that usual? I have no idea.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/03/2023 11:57

CyanCrystalViolet · 15/03/2023 12:37

@BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn I’m working on an assignment today which is due tomorrow. It’s on immunology which I quite enjoy so not exactly a treat but at least something reasonably low-stress. Just finished writing about how clever leishmania parasites make their way though the sand fly and into the human, complete with hand-drawn diagrams. I think I’ll set aside tomorrow for some time to relax properly.

@MavisMcMinty I would love to see that video! Kasper has never met a dreamie. He likes Vet’s Kitchen chicken and duck treats, and the occasional chicken purée in exchange for (so far) ‘up’, ‘down’ ‘sit’ and ‘high five’.

My older cat Jellybean is a dab hand at ladders, younger cat Archie looks on in amazement, like she's just done a magic trick.

Gonners · 15/03/2023 21:31

A lot of cats will climb most things if it's in their interests to do so. Have you seen pictures of those "cat-ladders" leading to upstairs flat windows? They're like those horrible slatted staircases that give me the absolute heebie-jeebies for no rational reason.

SinnerBoy · 15/03/2023 21:43

My parents had a cat and he climbed a ladder, as high as the guttering. He then didn't know what to do and my dad had to go up and be -scratched to pieces by the ungrateful little toad- rescue him.

NotDrowningJustCrowing · 16/03/2023 00:13

@Dotellhimpike that clip has brightened up my night, thank you! And thank you for the whole younger photos of me. These are two of my favourites. I'm about 19 in the one in trousers and about 18 in the dress one and I look like a little baby. It's no surprise that I had difficulty getting served in pubs! The bloke is an ex who I didn't realise I had a photo of - these were all sent to me about three years ago by a friend I hadn't seen in years. His name was Warren and I think I remember his real surname but we always called him Warren Peace. He looked quite like Marlon Brando.

@Britinme thank you for being so kind on the other thread. I was dreading looking there again and you made me feel so much better!

Britinme · 16/03/2023 03:47

@NotDrowningJustCrowing - you are welcome. I thought she had misread what you wrote and was being very rude to you.

Britinme · 16/03/2023 03:53

Incidentally I had an email from Mumsnet saying I had a direct message from another poster on that thread (who on the thread had agreed with the way I read Crow's posts) but I can't see how to read messages on my phone or iPad. When I click on the link in the email it just says "oops this thread does not exist." Is it that messages are only readable on a browser not the app, or can somebody withdraw a message unread? I can't see how to send a message on the app either.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/03/2023 07:27

@Britinme I use the app too and you can get to your messages via the My Mumsnet settings, to see whether the message is there, it takes you out of the app and onto your usual phone browser. It is possible for sender to withdraw a message but IME that's usually stated when you click on it in your inbox.

VicSynix · 16/03/2023 08:04

@NotDrowningJustCrowing I also thought that poster was being rude, and I considering going back to say that I thought describing someone as colluding in a fantasy is incredibly patronising. But I don't want to take over either that thread or this thread so I'll just leave it to say that you have my support and I know what you mean.

In other news, Boycat excelled himself the other night, bringing in a mouse when we had guests round. It wasn't the ideal party entertainment.

Britinme · 16/03/2023 08:45

@Ereshkigalangcleg - I tried the my Mumsnet link and it is still in the app and still nowhere that I can see messages.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/03/2023 08:48

If you click on Active threads in the bottom left of the screen, then the three line menu in the top right you can access your My Mumsnet settings and after that your messages from the app that way.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/03/2023 08:49

On My Mumsnet this way you should see "open additional my Mumsnet settings" at the bottom, after your name etc. This should bring up your inbox etc.
