Very strange and worrying situation. Please keep an eye out if you're local. www.southwalesargus.co.uk/news/23364255.three-newport-women-missing-night-city/?ref=twtrec

Has no one learned any lessons from Nicola Bulley's tragic case?

What are you feeling is similar?

AdoraBell · 05/03/2023 23:18

I hope the turn up safe.

Terrifying for the families. One of the women’s handbags was found in a caravan owned by one of the men which is odd.

It doesn’t seem to be reported if the women knew the men before Friday night.

Would there be areas with no mobile reception around there? I read that there were lots of country back lanes.

I read the car they were travelling in was leased. Would it be fitted with s tracker as standard?

I understand the police search helicopters have only just gone out tonight. Hope to god there is a non harm to anyone outcome and at the very least, they weren’t in a car incident and stuck there since early Sat morning with injuries.

I live in the area, keen rambler so often off beaten track. Mobile coverage is excellent unless you go up into Brecon.

The inane and pointless speculating.

So scary and only 10 minutes down the road from me!

Same here. The road to Pontypool can be dangerous at night and may have landed in a ditch but all very odd

Fannieannie63 · 05/03/2023 23:39

It is very worrying indeed, thinking of their families at this time and I’m hoping they are found safely.

AlbertaBalsam · 05/03/2023 23:43

What we need to solve this case is for the Mumsnet Miss Marples to band together with the Twitter sleuths!! Together they’ll solve the case in no time.
Also- we need to critique all of the police actions regardless of what they do.

I hope they’re all found safe and well.

It’s a strange sounding set of circumstances, with none of them being traceable etc.

Don’t forget Tik Tok. So sad for the families but what they don’t need is a bunch of social media sleuths pretending they are a detective. Obviously didn’t learn anything from a few weeks ago

Why is this not on BBC news? Their poor familys must be out of there minds with worry.

The police will decide whether or not that level of publicity is appropriate.

The police likely waited 24 hours to ensure truly missing

The Police don't wait 24 hours for a missing person report - other than on TV

Well they do unless they have reason to believe they are a vulnerable person

Is posting the criminal history of two missing, possibly innocent lads, in the spirit do you think?
I despair of this place sometimes. This is peoples lives not a bloody episode of CSI.

Redglitter · 06/03/2023 00:18

Well they do unless they have reason to believe they are a vulnerable person

They absolutely do not. A non vulnerable person can & will be treated as a misper well before 24 hours. It would be totally irresponsible to wait that length of time

yup, Of course they do, unless the person is vulnerable. They are all adults. The mother of one girl is saying the police were basically ignoring her, told her to stop ringing and were thinking they were just sleeping off a hangover somewhere.

I think the reason it was about the girls at first is it was their families pushing this hard , one mother in particular, and just no one seems to have been focusing on the lads. I don’t even think the police realised they were also missing.

so it would seem the police didn’t fully investigate immediately as they didn’t deem them other than low risk, basically bunch of girls haven’t come home after a late one.

now of course it’s starting to look like something very different and the police are urgently investigating.

you can report a missing person immediately. This doesn’t mean the police will fully investigate immediately, they will do an assessment and decide if it is low medium or high risk and then act accordingly.

LikeTearsInRain · 06/03/2023 00:21

Could just be a big drugs and booze bender. Happens.

Kinneddar · 06/03/2023 00:23

Trust me, as a Police Despatcher I can tell you quite categorically we do not wait 24 hours. Its not uncommon for someone to be told to wait a few hours, but the wait 24 hours is a TV (or possibly American) thing

justasoul · 06/03/2023 00:27

I haven’t seen Gwen Police’s Facebook post but could it be that the boys, being from Cardiff, are under SW Police instead?

Exactly. But noone will be told to wait 24 hours. In a situation of someone in their early 20s not coming home after a night out won't be high risk but their parent/partner may be told to wait until late morning/lunch time to see if they return home and then it'll be reassessed & at that stage even non vulnerable people will warrant some investigation

SirVixofVixHall · 06/03/2023 00:55

It does sound very worrying, no phone reception for any of them.

user1492757084 · 06/03/2023 01:01

Maybe a car accident in a place with no mobile coverage.
Perhaps on a beach or in a boat and got stranded??
Hoping the families hear good news soon.
