Mornington Crescent rides again

To nobody’s surprise, the frantic pace of this latest game means that the last thread is full and (as far as I can see) <polishes lorgnette> we don’t yet have a successor. So, off we go with a Brunswick Lateral to

Russell Square

OP posts:
LlynTegid · 10/12/2023 10:41

This is turning out to be an interesting game. Using the Elizabeth line rule, Paddington.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/12/2023 11:42

I’m feeling easy like Sunday morning, so am taking a lateral slide to

Battersea Power Station

MarkWithaC · 10/12/2023 13:10

Courage, Hooklander!

I see the weekend has reinvigorated us across the board. I particularly admire and applaud the thinking behind that Down-turn by Duck.

I'm calling an Incidental Kopp so I can say Elm Park.

TragicMuse · 10/12/2023 21:21

Ah @MarkWithaC, does one call an Incidental Kopp or does the Incidental Kopp call one?...the eternal conundrum...

My preferred option at times like these (pace Dave Grohl, and yes, I am watching the Foo Fighters on the television!) is Hyde Park Corner. Or edyh krap renroc as the mothership was fond of saying.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/12/2023 21:48

<<peers through lorgnette>> Who are the Foo Fighters? Are they some sort of string quartet?

Neasden

OP posts:
TragicMuse · 11/12/2023 23:01

They're a popular beat combo Maud. Most enervating.

Gloucester Road

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/12/2023 00:38

Ah. A few popular beat combos have caught my eye. In fact, come to think of it, I saw Mr Grohl playing with that nice young McCartney fellow from the Rolling Beatles at some sort of musical gathering in a field. Quite entertaining, although I suspect there were no facilities for playing the game of games.

Abbey Road

HazelBite · 12/12/2023 07:08

Ah Maud you take me back, (thinks wistfully back to a sunny day in a field listening to a man who claimed he was a Rag n Bone man although he had no horse and cart!) the station I travelled to on that occasion was Hampstead

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/12/2023 10:42

A rag and bone man? Surely you mean a resources recycling adviser? I shall recycle one of my favourite moves - a Brunswick Lateral - to

Turnpike Lane

Indeed, Muse. I've whiled away many an hour in let's say spirited conversation with the old Earl about that. Sometimes one needs to be careful of his shooting stick, he gets so animated.

If one knows who to ask, and at which outdoor musical gatherings, games can be had. So one hears anyway.

Back to business: I'm delighted to see that an opening has arrived for a little Eckthorp to Goodge Street.

Itisallgoingtobeok · 12/12/2023 16:11

Well, I made a very exciting find in my local library today. In a dusty corner I found a copy of Mrs Talbot-Crosbie's "A Guide to the Reverse Line Switch in Advanced Mornington Crescent Applications", 17th edition. I hope I am not overstretching myself, but I will give it a try...

...St Paul's

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/12/2023 18:08

No! Surely not! The last known copy of that was sold by an antiquarian bookseller in Troon for a six figure sum. I hope you are treating that tome with the reverence it deserves.

Blackfriars

OP posts:
TragicMuse · 12/12/2023 21:43

Lucky it's the 17th edition, the 16th is the one that had the hidden centrefold of her Ladyship. The recalling and pulping went on for months and I'm still not sure they got them all even it was spotted only a few days after publication. (That's what you get for publishing during the old closed season).

Anyway. I have been out singing carols and am now full of Christmas spirit. It was that or the absinthe and I have much to do tomorrow so forswore the green fairy. For a change.

With music in mind, I'd like to go to the RAH, so... South Kensington

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/12/2023 22:52

And thence to the Palais at

Hammersmith

OP posts:
DuckonaBike · 13/12/2023 07:42

The 17th edition eh? Wait until you get to Chapter 6. It’s controversial, is all I’m saying.

Rayners Lane

Itisallgoingtobeok · 13/12/2023 08:13

I just flipped forward to chapter 6 and I can't believe what I have just seen. I had to have a sit down and a brandy for the shock.

Elm Park

MarkWithaC · 13/12/2023 09:34

You do all know who 'Mrs Talbot-Crosbie' actually was, I take it? That knowledge should illuminate for you, Itisall, just how 'Mrs Talbot-Crosbie' had the... insight required for what Chapter 6 deals in.

An Arundel Conjunct to Osterley

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 13/12/2023 14:41

The so-called Mrs Talbot-Crosbie’s true identity is like the recipe for Coca-Cola - the subject of much rumour and conjecture, but known only to two individuals who are not allowed to travel in the same plane.

Sloane Square

OP posts:
MarkWithaC · 13/12/2023 14:52

That's what they want you to believe, Maud, but in certain circles it's much more of the order of an open secret. Knowledge of it makes a great deal of sense of the section regarding the gardening gloves, the vintage sheepskin and the Easter eggs.

Pinner

TragicMuse · 13/12/2023 16:51

The Easter eggs were^^ Fabergè after all...

In honour of the recent exhibition at the V&A, I'm using the Museum convention and taking us to Gloucester Road.

LlynTegid · 13/12/2023 17:19

This is getting very interesting. I am going to play the closed stations rule and move to Down Street

MarkWithaC · 13/12/2023 17:34

Is that one of those esoteric Merovingian moves reserved for the truly exceptional and of which mere mortals like me can barely conceive, Llyn, or (and forgive me if I'm casting aspersions) a typo?
Very much assuming the latter, I'm going to take the opportunity to get rid of a Hemispheric Token (the relief!) and say Ruislip Gardens.

HazelBite · 13/12/2023 18:57

All I can say to that Marc is Ickenham!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 13/12/2023 23:19

No name, no pack drill

Turkey Street

OP posts:
LlynTegid · 14/12/2023 07:30

Via the London Overground rule, a walk via the secret passageway from Liverpool Street to Moorgate, and then the Northern line, changing at Euston, I arrive at Mornington Crescent, to end and win the game!!
