Mornington Crescent rides again

To nobody’s surprise, the frantic pace of this latest game means that the last thread is full and (as far as I can see) <polishes lorgnette> we don’t yet have a successor. So, off we go with a Brunswick Lateral to

Russell Square

Breathless with excitement I posit Heathrow Terminals 2 & 3.

Some have called it my signature move. I demur, blushingly.

MarkWithaC · 01/12/2023 16:42

You're too modest, Muse; that's a thing of beauty.
I'm going to West Kensington (partial acute, obviously).

LlynTegid · 01/12/2023 17:07

I think High Street Kensington has not been visited recently, so let us go there.

MarkWithaC · 01/12/2023 17:35

Ah, I was hoping I could use up my last Pica, but never mind.
I'll say Kensal Green instead. It's simpler, at least.

I must tell you all that I'm signing off now, for today and probably for the weekend (has anyone else ever made a casual half-promise to Mrs G at The Greenings? If you have, you'll know what I'm talking about; if you haven't – DON'T!).
I anticipate this round being concluded before I get back to it, if that Extra-long Pick a few moves ago yields what I feel it will (or must).

As always, a pleasure and a privilege. Bonne chance and à tout à l'heure to you all!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 01/12/2023 19:15

Uh oh. We’re teetering on the brink, but I think we’ll escape with a demi-plume to

Covent Garden

OP posts:
DuckonaBike · 01/12/2023 20:27

Very nice, Maud. I’m going to back up to Kings Cross St Pancras just to stabilise things.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 01/12/2023 21:05

Thank you, Duck. You lead, I’ll follow:

St Paul’s

OP posts:
HazelBite · 01/12/2023 21:12

Stability is definitely required so I shall quickly traverse to Bethnal Green

TragicMuse · 01/12/2023 21:37

Sharp intake of breath

It's a toss up.

Highbury corner

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 02/12/2023 12:55

Hmm. I am on the horns of a dilemma but, of the two, I would choose

Bermondsey

OP posts:
LlynTegid · 03/12/2023 11:07

There is no Highbury Corner so under the 1933 non-stations rule we return to the previous move, which was Bethnal Green. Moving further east to Leytonstone.

MarkWithaC · 04/12/2023 10:02

Good lord, I step away for a weekend and chaos is reigning when I return!

A triple axel to Golders Green.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 04/12/2023 10:31

Chaos? Never! It was a rerun of the Rear Vice Admiral’s winning gambit at the Abergavenny championships in ‘77. But for now, I shall sashay to

Theydon Bois

OP posts:
MarkWithaC · 04/12/2023 10:52

True, although there was some dissent over that ruling, particularly in the Welwyn branch. I don't think Mrs P ever really got over it.
But that is a LOVELY move, Maud. All I can say is East Acton. And I know that's only possible because of the Implied Middle on your move, so thank you.

TragicMuse · 04/12/2023 13:47

Oh bum. Bloody autocorrect. I knew my past as a stipendiary magistrate would catch me out sooner or later. Happy days on the bench, not so great for the game of games.

I'll try* that move as I intended...Highbury and Islington.*

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 04/12/2023 14:12

I knew I recognised you, TragicMuse. It was you, wasn’t it, on the bench when the Dowager Duchess was sent down after that unfortunate business with the Cartier pearls? We told people she was taking the waters in Baden Baden, but the truth was rather more prosaic - 6 months in Holloway.

Old Street

OP posts:
MarkWithaC · 04/12/2023 14:27

Ha! I had always heard it was Marienbad.
Incidentally, I wonder if you all know about what the Dowager's erstwhile garage boy did for her in those dark times? Let's just put it this way: however plush his apartment in Basl may be, it isn't plush enough.

Righty-o.
A three-point Twitterton should get us safely to Blackhorse Road.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 04/12/2023 15:34

Enough of this persiflage:

Penge West

OP posts:
LlynTegid · 04/12/2023 16:31

The London Overground rule, did not expect that on a Monday afternoon. I shall use it a second time and move to Shadwell.

MarkWithaC · 04/12/2023 16:50

Well.
They say lightning doesn't strike twice, but I've checked and double-checked for boreal blockages (I felt particularly wary about that Penge move) and I am confidently saying

Mornington Crescent!

DuckonaBike · 04/12/2023 22:20

Congratulations Mark! A splendid finish. One so rarely gets to see a Canon Overpass nowadays.

Would you like the honour of beginning the next game?

LlynTegid · 05/12/2023 07:50

@MarkWithaC well done.

MarkWithaC · 05/12/2023 10:12

Thank you both.
And thank you to everyone on the thread for a most stimulating and often thrilling game. I would be honoured to kick off the next one and, bearing in mind the disadvantage suggested by the current aspect of the Hammersmith and City, I'll keep it simple:

Highgate

LlynTegid · 05/12/2023 11:52

It is too early to invoke the Northern Heights rule which under the 1955 convention was ruled to be not applicable for the first ten moves of a game.

So I move south instead to Angel.

MarkWithaC · 05/12/2023 12:01

There is another school of thought about Northern Heights, though, I think? Quite possibly a can of very wriggly worms, though, especially if one ever wants to be invited to the Rectory's summer party ever again...
Monument (using a Bobbed Quarter).
