To nobody’s surprise, the frantic pace of this latest game means that the last thread is full and (as far as I can see) <polishes lorgnette> we don’t yet have a successor. So, off we go with a Brunswick Lateral to

Russell Square

I can imagine the late Mr Dury would have been excellent at the London Underground memory game, but not so sure about the game of games. I suppose sadly we will never know.

The Northern line extension is a help here, so I can move to Colliers Wood.

MarkWithaC · 18/11/2023 15:21

Oh! That surprises me. Impressive.
Warwick Avenue. Only because the Central line is wild, obviously.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 18/11/2023 17:15

Wild? It’s livid! Now it has to be done:

Paddington

HazelBite · 18/11/2023 18:03

I keep returning to Metroland, its like its calling me so..............
Northwick Park

TragicMuse · 19/11/2023 12:26

Penultimate Sunday of the month and all gates open outward...

So...hmmm! So much choice!

Bayswater.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 19/11/2023 14:27

Oof. That’s put the Hammersmith and City line into knockings, so I can only get as far as

White City (eastbound, obviously)

OP posts:
LlynTegid · 19/11/2023 14:28

Whilst we wait for the H+C line to be available, let's move to Notting Hill Gate.

DuckonaBike · 19/11/2023 17:18

Dangerously radical, Llyn, if I may say so.

Let’s make a move to Hanger Lane, famed for its gyratory system.

HazelBite · 20/11/2023 07:07

I'm just going to take a slight detour to Park Royal

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 20/11/2023 08:57

And we’re free again!

Russell Square

OP posts:
LlynTegid · 20/11/2023 10:20

Liberation is a wonderful thing and in May 1945 there was much joy, though no idea when the tournaments of the game of games resumed, given that no-one has yet to write a history.

Turnpike Lane

MarkWithaC · 20/11/2023 10:20

An on-the-bias relational to Brondesbury Park .

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 20/11/2023 11:43

I think the difficulty, LlynTegid, isn’t that nobody has written a history of the game of games, but nobody has written one that’s been accepted. Previous attempts have mostly ended in writs, legal claims and (in that notorious incident at the Newport Pagnell playoffs in ‘82) fisticuffs, which only ended when the riot squad arrived.

Finchley Road

OP posts:
TragicMuse · 20/11/2023 13:28

Ah the dear old Finchley Road. Fond memories of walking along it with Mater to my nursery in Maresfield Gardens...of course, I am too young to have ever met the good Herr Doctor. But I have admired his statue many times!

Great Portland Street.

HazelBite · 20/11/2023 14:08

The next obvious destination is Baker Street

MarkWithaC · 20/11/2023 14:36

Upney, with the help of the Ducheyne Peculiarity.
Maud, as I'm sure you remember, the ins-and-outs of this move featured heavily in the 1982 attempt at a complete history. I personally think the complainant had a more compelling argument, but I said nothing further then and I say nothing further now. Those riot police were large chaps.

DuckonaBike · 20/11/2023 19:39

I’m inclined to agree with you, Mark, on both counts.

A discontinuous oblique to Stamford Brook, if I may.

TragicMuse · 20/11/2023 20:35

Might I venture a Hanley's Tandem Lateral to Kensington (Olympia)?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 20/11/2023 23:21

And why not?

Victoria

OP posts:
MarkWithaC · 21/11/2023 09:09

My word, Muse, I love a Hanley's but would never have considered using it in conjunction with the Bakerloo like that! Congrats.

I'm inspired by that to go for a Bartlett's Suspension to North Greenwich.

LlynTegid · 21/11/2023 14:23

I don't like being south of the river for long so hop two stops to West Ham

MarkWithaC · 21/11/2023 14:42

This is a little marginal, but a flick through DeWulff's suggests that it is permissible seeing as we (luckily, as it turns out) converted earlier with that Alperton move:
Chancery Lane

DuckonaBike · 23/11/2023 07:35

Well that last move seems to have stumped everyone! However I’ve spent the last 36 hours mulling it over, consulted the standard reference sources (and one non-standard one; I have a soft spot for the Close Supplement) and I’m making a Devereux Loop to Old Street. I trust that won’t be regarded as too controversial.

HazelBite · 23/11/2023 07:39

Not controversial at all, in fact rather intelligent overall!
After much consideration I think the way forward is Queensway

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 23/11/2023 08:18

If we’re on a regal slant, it has to be

Kings Cross
