Mornington Crescent rides again

To nobody’s surprise, the frantic pace of this latest game means that the last thread is full and (as far as I can see) <polishes lorgnette> we don’t yet have a successor. So, off we go with a Brunswick Lateral to

Russell Square

The outer reaches of the Piccadilly line so early in this game! Let's start our journey back and move to Arnos Grove.

HazelBite · 03/11/2023 08:40

Gosh @LlynTegid I was going to make that move, great minds indeed. Although it hurts me ( I grew up in a certain part of North London) my only move at this time can be Arsenal!

MarkWithaC · 03/11/2023 10:25

Seeing as the Bakerloo is wild, I'm risking a reverse Frimpington to Gants Hill.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 03/11/2023 12:23

Oh so predictable.

Battersea Power Station

FinsburyCircus · 03/11/2023 12:45

Now I've not tried this for a while so I hope my lower back's still up for it...

Here goes..

Kennington

ArthurbellaScott · 03/11/2023 12:54

Sigh.

If you note Cockfosters was played a few turns back. I know it's likely to be unpopular but I have a feeling that the gameplay on this board has been rather lax, and apparently failed to properly implement Wassail Protocol.

So, I call foul and that leaves us at:

Bank.

FinsburyCircus · 03/11/2023 13:48

Lax gameplay?! I learnt this game at the Wimbledon Institute from the late, great Sir Arthur Gobble himself!

However, I'm prepared to compromise.

If we follow your Wassail Protocol (Although somewhat dated these days), the logical next step would be Canary Wharf

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 03/11/2023 14:16

Quite. Those of us who trained at the Wimbledon Institute - I have fond memories of the semi-finals there in ‘52, when the Colonel and I unfortunately capsized our canoe in the carp pond after one too many dry martinis - can never be accused of being lax.

Green Park

OP posts:
ArthurbellaScott · 03/11/2023 14:58

I had no idea I was among Gobblists.

That explains much, and certainly will inform my next move:

Gallions Reach

MarkWithaC · 03/11/2023 15:06

Not the best-tempered of games so far, is it? Is a long week beginning to tell? I freely admit I've been burning the midnight oil staying up too late refreshing myself on the Copenhagen Group of mini-rules.
With which in mind I'll say Kilburn Park.

ArthurbellaScott · 03/11/2023 15:58

Well, fair enough. Perhaps my hitherto unquestioning reliance on the clockwork etiquette is making me overly quick to nitpick.

In the spirit of collegiate reparation, and by way of explanation I offer:

Perivale, and a large Lagavoulin to all.

FinsburyCircus · 03/11/2023 17:03

Well, Sir Arthur would certainly appreciate the Lagavulin and the spirit in which it was offered! Shame he was rather too fond of it in the end...

I think a gentle move to Temple should be something on which all sides of the Sliderule Schism can agree.

DuckonaBike · 03/11/2023 20:34

That’s the spirit, Finsbury <raises glass>

After a long week I think we all need to relax, with suitable refreshments and perhaps a few back issues of MC Quarterly to peruse. In the meantime, here’s an uncontroversial Petherbridge Hop to Green Park

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 03/11/2023 20:43

Really, DuckOnABike? Returning to Green Park so quickly? I fear you might have raised rather too many glasses this evening.

Hainault

OP posts:
HazelBite · 03/11/2023 21:17

This is going very fast and furious, it is indeed quite a bad tempered game, as an aged protagonist of the game of games I feel the best move for now, to avoid Nidd is Grange Hill

DuckonaBike · 04/11/2023 11:14

Sorry, Maud. I don’t think I technically broke any rules though, if we are playing Kauffman’s Exemption?

Anyhow, in the cold light of day

<leaps from cold bath>
<downs double espresso>
<cracks knuckles>

Liverpool Street

Happy weekend to all players!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 04/11/2023 11:39

Hmm, DuckOnABike. It’s borderline. If you’ve been rereading MC Quarterly you’ll recall that this point was explored in the cut-out-and-keep supplement to the Spring ‘02 edition. But I’m a forgiving sort, so onward and upward to

Hanger Lane

OP posts:
ArthurbellaScott · 04/11/2023 11:45

See, us long distance players are at a disdvantage, here. MC Quarterly never made it past Hadrian's Wall!

I rely on more primitive books of the canon. And a slide rule.

Waterloo.

MarkWithaC · 04/11/2023 16:25

Playing my Transylvanian Upper allows us to avoid the threat of Krepps and land on Harlesden.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 04/11/2023 17:04

I’ve always rather enjoyed Krepps, myself, but that’s a conversation for another day.

Kensington Olympia

OP posts:
FinsburyCircus · 04/11/2023 21:51

Personally I find the MC Quarterly has rather declined in quality these days - certain columnists are decidedly avant-garde. The stoutly traditional principles of the Mornington Mercury are more my cup of tea.

St Paul's

SpellitwithaY · 04/11/2023 22:30

Hello! New here, hope it's okay to join in!

I'll just start with Uxbridge

MarkWithaC · 05/11/2023 11:30

Deceptively simple, Spell. I like your style. And welcome!

I’m going to demi-pivot to Oval, sixer rules.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 05/11/2023 13:35

That sets me up nicely for a Demi-plunge to

Clapham North

OP posts:
HazelBite · 05/11/2023 15:28

I can only come up with Lancaster GateI'm bearing in mind the 1952 Royal protocols here so I'm not being unnecessarily provocative.
