Look at what I rescued from a wheelie bin this morning....

Isn't she gorgeous?

Some absolute tosser had just fucked her into their bin 😢

I saw the leafy bit sticking out the top of a wheelie bin on my dog walk and had to save her. I didn't expect her to be quite so call - trunk just kept on coming.

I've potted her and I'm letting her rest and acclimatize in my bathroom for now before I find her permanent home.

As you can see, I don't have a nice pot for her yet so she's having to make do with a nursery pot and a dinner plate. Don't judge us.

When I say permanent home, I mean permanent spot in my house.

@Greensleeves Hopefully she's lucky. I'm not great with plants, I usually stick to succulents because they're hard to kill. I hope I don't kill her.

It was pretty heroic if I'm honest 😎

And witnessed by several people. I hope they're all in awe, rather than thinking "Why is that mad woman going through people's bins?" 😐

I have a dragon tree which looks similar, it’s quite neglected and not really in the sun/window. It’s in my living room and since we have a terraced house which is on the street with no front garden the front room voile curtains are always shut. It seems quite happy so I think it’s a low maintenance plant! Good luck 🤞🏻

ArcaneWireless · 23/02/2023 15:06

Many a lovely plant thrives from the beginnings of a nursery pot and a dinner plate.

May she thrive.

You did a nice thing. 🌻

VegetablesFightingToReclaimTheAubergieneEmoji · 23/02/2023 15:06

She’s glorious. Congratulations and well done.

YesYou · 23/02/2023 15:10

Was it a garden waste bin? Our council wouldn't take the normal bins with that in it anyway!

IceIceBabyBump · 23/02/2023 15:13

Thanks for the good wishes and reassurances Smile

She'll get a lovely pot once I'm confident she's not going to die!

@YesYou It was in a normal household waste bin. We don't have garden waste bins around these parts. Our council usually take garden waste in our normal bins but I've always disguised it a bit just in case, not left a fucking tree poking out the top of my junk 🙃

What are you going to call her ?

catfunk · 23/02/2023 15:15

I'd be well chuffed with that!
Just check it's not got mealybugs or anything ;)

IceIceBabyBump · 23/02/2023 15:15

@MeatballHead Good question. Dragon trees are native to Madagascar so maybe 'Anna' in reference to the capital city. But then I did find her in a bin so maybe I could reference that in her name somehow. I'll have to think on it.

IceIceBabyBump · 23/02/2023 15:16

@catfunk I did give her a once-over and she didn't look to have infestations 😬

Annie (as in little orphan)?

MeatballHead · 23/02/2023 15:26

Lady Annabina of >Street name<

WalterWitty · 23/02/2023 15:29

We have one at home, pretty hardy and after 3 years is thriving. Has been in light rooms but not full sun ever. I’m shocked I keep anything alive tbh but try my best

Plumpcious · 23/02/2023 15:33

One that size costs about £20 in B&Q. Well done rescuing it!

IceIceBabyBump · 23/02/2023 15:41

Annie is nice.

I also love Annabina but the 'of' is a bit challenging. The bin was on a little cut through at the intersection of a few roads called 'Beech', 'Falconer', Park' and 'Lindley'.

@WalterWitty Good to know. I'm terrible with plants. I really care about them but end up killing any that are even slightly needy. Hence why I've moved to a succulents only policy.

@Plumpcious I know right... got myself a right bargain. I live in an area of rows or Victorian terraces and the back lanes are an absolute treasure trove of finds. I've got a couple of gorgeous indoor plant pots and a massive solid concrete outdoor plant pot which would've set me back about £70 new at our local garden centre.

Binderella?

Zsa Zsa Garbage?

LakeTiticaca · 23/02/2023 15:42

Shame someone put it in a bin. It's lovely!! I wonder why it wasn't just left outside with a "please take ne" note.
P.S. give it a nice sunny position and don't over water it 😉

HurryShadow · 23/02/2023 15:45

Excellent work OP!

We have a couple of these in our office. They do well in a reasonably lit room, away from the window.

We have a very green fingered receptionist who waters them diligently every week and they're massive now!

Why would someone throw that in the bin?! If you don't want it, just leave it on the street for someone else to take!

IceIceBabyBump · 23/02/2023 15:47

I have no idea why someone would just shove it in the bin. Heartless.

I'd have put it in a nursery pot and left outside with a 'free to a good home' note.

Or put it up on Nextdoor. Someone would definitely have nabbed it off Nextdoor.
