Look at what I rescued from a wheelie bin this morning....

Isn't she gorgeous?

Some absolute tosser had just fucked her into their bin 😢

I saw the leafy bit sticking out the top of a wheelie bin on my dog walk and had to save her. I didn't expect her to be quite so call - trunk just kept on coming.

I've potted her and I'm letting her rest and acclimatize in my bathroom for now before I find her permanent home.

As you can see, I don't have a nice pot for her yet so she's having to make do with a nursery pot and a dinner plate. Don't judge us.

@GhostFaen my Venus is hanging on by a thread, apparently they like sugar in the water... it's looking slightly better! But I think it had a field day with all the fruit flys and spiders in my kitchen. When it's eaten 🕷️ it dies back and goes black.

MeatballHead · 23/02/2023 16:42

Binderella is perfect @GenAndWine 😃

"You honestly can't be serious?" "miserable wankery" - Sorry, it's the law. Look it up.

I LOVE that there's a man in here impotently yapping "it's the law" "you stole it"

Priceless <chef's kiss>

Isawa Bin Garden?

squashyhat · 23/02/2023 16:55

Thank God. I thought it was going to be a kitten.

SquashPenguin · 23/02/2023 16:55

I bought a tiny dragon tree from IKEA in 2011 for £3. Fast forward 12 years he’s now 8ft tall and called Winston. God knows how he hasn’t died. He’s looking very scraggly at the moment but his leaves will come back! They’re very hardy trees!

statetrooperstacey · 23/02/2023 16:56

Are you sure they were throwing it out and it hadn’t been delivered to them / left in the bin??!! I would have asked first rather than just taking it out !

Isawa Bin Garden?

My dad's standard joke on bin day is to say; 'Look at all those Rubbish Bin Ladens'.

I still find it funny.

TheFireflies · 23/02/2023 17:02

Binderella is great.

Otherwise, Shirley (after Shirley Manson from Garbage), Oscar or Dusty.

MysteryBelle · 23/02/2023 17:22

Bindi!

Some of my biggest bestest buys are from Ikea. We have over 40 plants in the house in total with dragon trees / yuccas / snake plants all over 4 feet tall and thriving. The only one I cannot keep alive for love nor money is Aloe Vera, even though other succulents are doing fine, they just keep dying on me!

I always feel sorry for potted poinsettias chucked into the bin after Christmas. I always keep mine growing. They quickly lose their lovely looks, as have I,
yet we persevere.

You see this is where I fail. My poinsettia is in the bin before Christmas because whilst I can keep a garden blooming house plants just hate me.
hence a find of plastic ones being rather good for me😂

Shitfather · 23/02/2023 17:31

Oohhh she’s a beauty. Congratulations OP - May this be the start of a blossoming and fruitful friendship.

What a nerd.

MysteryBelle · 23/02/2023 17:35

My poinsettias are going strong and still full of color and vigor. Watering every 3 days, we’ll drained, m and given bright but indirect light is all they need so far. I’m so shocked, I always threw them away too but these three I have are doing wonderfully and I’m going to see if I can keep them until next Christmas. One of them is really huge. They’re so happy in my sunroom.

MysteryBelle · 23/02/2023 17:36

well drained, typos

monomatapea · 23/02/2023 17:42

How can you tell which ones are female. I've got one but not sure - is there a flower on it somewhere if it's female?

tothelefttotheleft · 23/02/2023 17:45

@IceIceBabyBump

Was it in a pot or just bare roots?

steff13 · 23/02/2023 17:54

IceIceBabyBump · 23/02/2023 15:47

I have no idea why someone would just shove it in the bin. Heartless.

I'd have put it in a nursery pot and left outside with a 'free to a good home' note.

Or put it up on Nextdoor. Someone would definitely have nabbed it off Nextdoor.

My spider plant had about 30 babies. I cut them off and potted them in nursery pots and when they got a bit bigger I put them out on the curb on a table with a sign. They were all gone within two days. A couple people even left little thank you notes, and one person left a candy bar! I got the idea from a woman who left excess tomato plants out on the curb for people to take. I think it's a great idea. I could never throw a living thing away.

IceIceBabyBump · 23/02/2023 15:03

@Greensleeves Hopefully she's lucky. I'm not great with plants, I usually stick to succulents because they're hard to kill. I hope I don't kill her.

My dragon tree is ten years old. Pretty easy to look after - don’t overwater and feed with liquid solution of miracle grow every year. Yours does look as though it needs repotting into a bigger tub so the roots can spread - use a good quality potting on compost. The top part will eventually split into three and you’ll get three separate heads on it, as well as babies growing from the bottom, which I take off and repot. Well done for saving her and good luck.
