Look at what I rescued from a wheelie bin this morning....

Isn't she gorgeous?

Some absolute tosser had just fucked her into their bin 😢

I saw the leafy bit sticking out the top of a wheelie bin on my dog walk and had to save her. I didn't expect her to be quite so call - trunk just kept on coming.

I've potted her and I'm letting her rest and acclimatize in my bathroom for now before I find her permanent home.

As you can see, I don't have a nice pot for her yet so she's having to make do with a nursery pot and a dinner plate. Don't judge us.

I would never judge you!

I hate to see plants abused.

It breaks my heart when I see them in supermarkets etc, unwatered, neglected - if there's a chance of resurrecting them I usually buy them,

Well done you!

I hope she appreciates all you have done for her,

How can you tell which ones are female. I've got one but not sure - is there a flower on it somewhere if it's female?

Ahhh my people.

I'm going to NC for this because most of my friends have taken the piss....
Last week DH and I chopped up and old sofa and took it to the tip. As he was unloading I spotted a young woman who'd clearly been having a clear out and chucked a load of plants (albeit fake ones) in the top of the skip. I had a quick word with both, and as fast as DH was emptying one side of the car I was filling the front footwell...
His face when he got in was priceless as he tried to figure out where it had all come from.

Couldn't believe it though, these were in lovely ceramic planters as well. No idea why they didn't just take them to the charity shop, but I was thrilled with my haul.

Returned to the tip the other day. DH said 'for the love of god stay in the car' 😂

You have been truly blest,

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/02/2023 18:18

Oh thank providence, was dreading looking at a cat or dog!!

Well done, you. May she live long and prosper.

My dragon tree is ten years old. Pretty easy to look after - don’t overwater and feed with liquid solution of miracle grow every year. Yours does look as though it needs repotting into a bigger tub so the roots can spread - use a good quality potting on compost. The top part will eventually split into three and you’ll get three separate heads on it, as well as babies growing from the bottom, which I take off and repot. Well done for saving her and good luck.

I think that there are at least two heads already. Gorgeous plant,

BertyMyrtle · 23/02/2023 18:22

Could be that someone else stole the plant, as they wanted the pot or something and threw the plant in someone’s bin to dispose of it

CrabDuckDuckCrab · 23/02/2023 18:28

We got a really nice saucepan from a bin. Copper-bottomed. Someone had just left it there. And it's not like the bin was just next to their door and they'd left it to cool down, or something - it was a bin in a storage area well away from any houses. So we adopted it.

It's serving us well, is that pan.

magicthree · 23/02/2023 18:30

Congratulations! Why on earth would someone chuck something so lovely in a bin?? It sounds like she now has a good home - well done!

Gandalfsthong · 23/02/2023 18:38

I’ve had one of these for more than 20 years so they must be forgiving! Happy you saved her!

WetLettuce2 · 23/02/2023 18:59

Very VERY impressive !

Iamnotalemming · 23/02/2023 19:00

Beautiful.

I think she's called Binderella.

PacificallyRequested · 23/02/2023 19:10

Well done for rescuing beautiful Binderella, OP! I'd have done the same, I love plants and can't understand folk who chuck perfectly good things away rather than passing them on.

Ludo19 · 23/02/2023 19:11

Lovely plant OP.

I saw a very sad Christmas flowering cactus for sale for I think 26p in 2000, I gave it to my mum as I had my girls (cats) and plus I'm shit with house plants. It took many years for it to produce flowers but it now flowers twice a year and my mum has kept it going for over 22yrs. The flowers are beautiful.

JupiterFortified · 23/02/2023 19:12

This thread has really cheered me up so thanks OP :)

I rescued a beautiful vintage dinner set from the street. I had to go back a couple of times to get it all and I was worried someone else would nab it in the meantime!

Put the together.
If you don't end up with baby Yukka's they're either both boys or both girls.

Igneococcus · 23/02/2023 19:28

I have three in my office and they were here when I started working there (2006). One had a baby recently. It started with a tiny spiky thing coming through the soil an inch or two from the stem and it's now a proper little plant with leaves.

KilljoysMakeSomeNoise · 23/02/2023 19:33

I had no plants for years, after killing off the plant the people who lived here before left us, and two orchids I was given.

Then Tesco kept selling reduced poorly looking houseplants and I felt sorry for them, so kept buying them. So far they are all still alive! I always keep an eye out for more reduced plants.

Not seen a tree in a bin though. I thoroughly approve of you rescuing her.

Instinct,

I meant does it have berries or something? How can you tell.

Justmeandthedog1 · 23/02/2023 19:53

She’s lovely!
I have a dragon plant in my bathroom ( not nearly so tall) Seems to be very tolerant of not great light and it’s north facing so not the warmest room. Think they must be quite hardy plants.

It is an indoor plant, so not as easy to nick.

Awww, nice one @IceIceBabyBump Grin I hope she will be very happy with you!
