Look at what I rescued from a wheelie bin this morning....

Isn't she gorgeous?

Some absolute tosser had just fucked her into their bin 😢

I saw the leafy bit sticking out the top of a wheelie bin on my dog walk and had to save her. I didn't expect her to be quite so call - trunk just kept on coming.

I've potted her and I'm letting her rest and acclimatize in my bathroom for now before I find her permanent home.

As you can see, I don't have a nice pot for her yet so she's having to make do with a nursery pot and a dinner plate. Don't judge us.

Binderalla needs a slightly bigger pot pref terracotta, light and water when nearly dry, feed a every 3/4 months

Well done I love saving plants 😀

Choccyp1g · 23/02/2023 15:57

You've done the original owners a favour too; our binmen ostentatiously ignore any bin where the lid is not firmly down.

That's the biggest I have ATM 😭

Her roots fit in quite nicely with some growing room. I'm hoping she'll be okay for a while until I get her a bigger nursery pot, an actual pretty pot, and think about her permanent home.

That's a shame, I don't want to do favours to people who dump perfectly healthy plants in wheelie bins. Fuckers.

She'll be fine! She loves her new spot and is grateful she's not in a bin 😀

userxx · 23/02/2023 16:08

WTF is wrong with people!!! That is a beautiful plant.

I'm putting you forward for Pride of Brittain Awards.

IceIceBabyBump · 23/02/2023 16:11

Thank you @OnMyWayToSenility Smile

Ooooh, fun @userxx I also take my aluminum cans to the park for recycling for our local dogs home. Might want to also mention that on my nomination form for further evidence of my all-round-good-eggery 😇

Ahhh my people.

I'm going to NC for this because most of my friends have taken the piss....
Last week DH and I chopped up and old sofa and took it to the tip. As he was unloading I spotted a young woman who'd clearly been having a clear out and chucked a load of plants (albeit fake ones) in the top of the skip. I had a quick word with both, and as fast as DH was emptying one side of the car I was filling the front footwell...
His face when he got in was priceless as he tried to figure out where it had all come from.

Couldn't believe it though, these were in lovely ceramic planters as well. No idea why they didn't just take them to the charity shop, but I was thrilled with my haul.

Returned to the tip the other day. DH said 'for the love of god stay in the car' 😂

Binderella.

<I'll get my coat>

😂

GhostFaen · 23/02/2023 16:18

Wow, she looks so healthy for a throw away. I’m afraid I just abused two Venus fly traps to the point of death. Managed for a year, but I just couldn’t keep up.

AverageGuy · 23/02/2023 16:22

@IceIceBabyBump
Technically, stealing by finding... Unless you had permission from the owner of the wheelie bin to take it, you effectively stole it.. sorry..

Just the same as if you took something from someones skip outside thier home..

bananamilkyum · 23/02/2023 16:24

She's lovely and the plants rescued from the tip

IceIceBabyBump · 23/02/2023 16:25

@MI5Spook That display looks absolutely amazing. Good job.

@GhostFaen I bought a venus fly trap last year. It lasted a couple of months and then blackened and died. I felt terrible about it. I'm not too sure what I did wrong but clearly we weren't a good fit.

"Why is that mad woman going through people's bins?" 😐

Retrieving a vacuum cleaner part from the skip - lost whilst emptying the cannister - I had a passerby offer me money for food!

gemeouttahere · 23/02/2023 16:30

Plant rescue - yay! Binderella is a beaut.

GlassBunion · 23/02/2023 16:31

Well done for rescuing Binderella ( nicely done @OhNoNotThatAgain !)

You've got a splendid plant there and will reward you for many years.

That's hilarious 😂

Luckily I had the dog with me so could do a whole commentary to her of "Oh look, what's that plant in the bin? Let's go and have a look. It looks like someone's just thrown it away but its perfectly healthy".

Perfect alibi.

Ahhh, you took the bait @Retrohaul

I was just ignoring.

But I am kind of loving the jobsworth intervention coming from a username 'AverageGuy'.... Yep, basically exactly the kind of miserable wankery I'd expect from an average man Grin Grin

Blimey, can't believe the things people throw away. But then that's how I furnished half the house, and I'll be cooking belated pancakes on my le creuset garbage crepe pan.

Even potted seedlings get snapped up in hours on my street.

Lol, I didn't even notice the username... Now, it all become clear!

AverageGuy · 23/02/2023 16:37

"You honestly can't be serious?" "miserable wankery" - Sorry, it's the law. Look it up.

whirlyhead · 23/02/2023 16:39

I have several plants I need to get rid of (one the same as the one you rescued!) but I have no idea of the best way of getting rid. No one I know wants them! (I'm moving and can't take them)

Is the best idea putting them on the pavement with a "help yourself" note?

ifIwerenotanandroid · 23/02/2023 16:40

@MI5Spook You did well! My husband dreads me getting out of the car at the tip. I don't know why, I've only nabbed some stained glass (gave it to a friend) & a beautiful, big garden pot with a detailed dragon on it (tiny chip on the rim, 50p to the Tip Men & it was mine).

OP, may you & Binderella have a long & happy life together.🌴
