My absolute favourite lunch that I really look forward to, is corn thins (like rice cakes) with cottage cheese on. I could eat tonnes of it! On the cottage cheese subject, I witnessed my DM mixing in orange segments to hers on a salad the other day. Odd.

Reminds me of my grandad, grandma used to save him the grease from frying bacon and he'd have it spread on white bread as a mid morning snack.

Definitely got dripping on toast from my grandmother!

Super noodle sandwich!

Yep this!

I went to our office in San Fran Bay area last month and one of the trendy food trucks where serving these but toasted, a bit more upmarket than the curry slapped in white bread with loads of butter, they added a few bits of fresh onions etc but it was double carb heaven (a lot of MN would explode at that) but the queue was massive with many a young trendy slim women and men in the queue

I am obsessed with cheese on toast. I rarely eat it but I love it so much

Figrolls14 · 15/02/2023 21:59

Recently discovered there was nice instant gravy, will happily drink it and dip hot toast in. Likewise instant mash. The two together have been my downfall during wfh

rockpoolingtogether · 15/02/2023 22:05

Super noodles and frankfurters - mmmm

rockpoolingtogether · 15/02/2023 22:07

And Nutella from the jar

Crisp sandwich

Eggy bread. I have lovely memories of girl guide camps where we all had eggy bread and tinned spaghetti every morning for breakfast. The breakfast of champions!

My 13yo made me some on Monday morning and she is now the queen of eggy bread. She adds paprika and thyme and it's divine.

Roasted Brussel sprouts with a bit of salt and pepper, don't know why but could eat a massive bowl of them!

Cheap white bread, primula squeezy cheese and crisps, perfect combo of smooth and crunchy

Catterbat · 15/02/2023 22:30

Bombay bad boy pot noodle with a peperoni fire stick dipper.

Barbarolo · 15/02/2023 22:30

Sardine and tomato paste on buttered white toast. Sounds grim, tastes lovely! 😀

ThoroughlyEnjoyable · 15/02/2023 22:39

Sweetcorn & melted butter in a mug. You can add some Thai red curry paste

RosesAndHellebores · 15/02/2023 22:46

Calves liver, finely sliced, sautéed with butter and sage. Serve on micro new potatoes.

Philly and cucumber sandwiches - crusts off.

Proper white bread toasted, topped with turkey dripping on boxing day.

A slice of good pork pie with baby beetroot and a spoonful of cottage cheese.

Bowl of porridge. Any time. Anywhere.

Yes!! Me too. I could cheerfully live on porridge.

MadamLeota · 15/02/2023 22:52

I blame my dear late mum for this one….

Cooked white cabbage with crispy, smoked bacon on heavily buttered white bread with the bacon juice poured on as well. Cabbage and bacon butties have been my ultimate comfort food since I was a kid and my own family look at me like I’m devouring puppies if I ever have one 😂

Rebellious23 · 15/02/2023 23:08

I love egg mayo on marmite rice cakes
Do a happy dance every time I eat it
My boss witnessed this and was both Confused and "that's disgusting"

Cottage Pie. The kids hate it and I can't often be arsed making it just for me.
Beef Stew/hot pot type of thing. The kids also hate these.

I love both of these! Now that I've found the best beef stew recipe
Make and freeze? I live alone and make 5-6 portions and freeze in individual Pyrex dishes

pompomdaisy · 15/02/2023 23:15

Goats cheese and chilli jam on crackers

beguilingeyes · 16/02/2023 05:52

Chocadoddledoo · 16/02/2023 06:43

Pancakes with vinegar and sugar.

Crikeyalmighty · 16/02/2023 09:56

@Vitriolinsanity I was going to say farleys rusks, I also liked tinned apricot rice baby food

Tessisme · 16/02/2023 10:08

Beetroot (pickled, from a jar) on toast or in a sandwich. Nothing else. Just the beetroot.
Also used to love a plain iceberg lettuce sandwich or an apple sandwich when I was a child. Must try it again😃

@Shunkleisshiny - you've reminded me, my DGM used to do this but with tomatoes on top! Oh my - I want this now!
