Meals or food you love that to everyone else are completely boring/horrible

My absolute favourite lunch that I really look forward to, is corn thins (like rice cakes) with cottage cheese on. I could eat tonnes of it! On the cottage cheese subject, I witnessed my DM mixing in orange segments to hers on a salad the other day. Odd.

Tinned plum tomatoes on toast. Salt and white pepper. Worcestershire sauce if I'm feeling fancy.

Yes!!!!! I love this. Also nice with malt vinegar. I don't know anyone in real life that likes tinned plum tomatoes.

Tinned tomatoes on toast were my go-to lunch in the uni canteen when I was even more skint than usual - they were the cheapest thing at 9d (old pence). I could just fancy some now.

ItsaStupidSillyThing · 15/02/2023 19:31

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER my dm used to make me that when I was little, it's even better with passata! Toast has to have butter on too.

LindorDoubleChoc · 15/02/2023 19:33

Toast, butter, scrambled eggs, Marmite on top of the scrambled eggs.

Toast, butter, baked beans, Marmite on top of the baked beans.

Toast, Marmite, smashed avocado, olive oil, chilli flakes, salt, squeeze of lime.

Very fresh soft brown bread, butter, peanut butter, Marmite, made into a sandwich.

Ostryga · 15/02/2023 19:38

Sushi rice (preferably day old) warmed up and then using chopsticks whisk an egg yolk in until it’s frothy. Top with hella furikake, soy, splash of fish sauce and another egg yolk.

SO DANG GOOD.

ScottBakula · 15/02/2023 19:40

@LindorDoubleChoc leave some marmite for the rest of us !
Do you like marmites peanut butter ?

Crikeyalmighty · 15/02/2023 19:42

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER even nicer is tinned toms on fried bread!

harriethoyle · 15/02/2023 19:42

@LindorDoubleChoc try marmite on the batter of fish and chips. It melts in and is SO good!

valentinaxo · 15/02/2023 19:49

Cheap ham with dollop of salad crème, quick snack from the fridge

Black pudding and tongue are really tasty

Also love chocolate with salted crisps, don't know why it's not a thing

My grandma used to fry leftover potatoes, cheese, tomatoes, sometimes onion in frying pan, bloody delicious, oozy cheesy potatoes with toast

Another one for raw stuffing. Paxo original. I love it more than cooked stuffing. Also jacket potatoes with Butter and salt.

Yes!!!!

Also pasta shells covered in melted cheese with lots of pepper.

007DoubleOSeven · 15/02/2023 20:04

Hot toast with dripping

UpUpAndAwol · 15/02/2023 20:05

White bread with melted butter and Vegemite.

Are you me? I like just a spoon of Branston at any time. I can also happily eat a whole tub of coleslaw by itself. The one that everyone else in my family turns their nose up at is sardines on toast.

Hi food soul mate ! Yes , tinned sardines and pilchards are both lovely like my gran did them . Toasted under the grill on toast until piping hot and then lots of vinegar. I also use slices ham or Turkey to make a “Swiss roll “ with coleslaw as the filling , yum !

ScattyHattie · 15/02/2023 20:14

Love jacket potato & beans, although toast is a good second.

As a poor student I liked rice, frozen peas and instant veg gravy mix or pasta with tin chicken soup, tuna, and either broccoli or peas

kagerou · 15/02/2023 20:17

Leftover short grain white rice reheated in a wok with butter and a splash of soy sauce - sounds boring but tastes great

Missed a one, digestive biscuits spread with nutella, biscoff spread or even better both! Also nutella and cornflakes when I have nothing sweet in, digging spoon in jar rhenium cornflakes yum!

Have you tried adding a layer of Philadelphia cheese ? It is a yummy diy cheesecake substitute ( works with lemon curd too .)

Hot toast with dripping

Reminds me of my grandad, grandma used to save him the grease from frying bacon and he'd have it spread on white bread as a mid morning snack.

Vitriolinsanity · 15/02/2023 20:21

Digestive biscuits with blackcurrant jam.

When DS was a baby I would put the jam on Farleys ruskBlush(for me, not him)

ToriLynn · 15/02/2023 20:34

Pork liver pate on white toast

lovedive · 15/02/2023 20:35

This was my Grandpa’s favourite tea! He was from Preston. I can see my Gran making it for him now. It had to be Lancashire cheese.

My mam used to make this with bacon. It was the saltiest thing I’ve ever eaten, she used to call it cheese soup!

BertHandsome · 15/02/2023 20:42

In a pierogi restaurant in Poland they served this little pot of lard with teeny bits of meat in, all scraps from cooking (with bread and pickles). Everyone turned their nose up at it but I wanted to take a tub of it home it was delicious!

RichardHeed · 15/02/2023 20:43

gentlemans' relish
I had no idea what this was and I’m so glad Google showed me the food and not what my mind went to…
