What just happened to me!?

2wombraiders · 13/02/2023 10:43

I’m prepared to be told I’m mentally unwell and need to see a doctor (last resort) but I’m certain I just entered a time glitch.

I was driving into the countryside to collect my daughter from a sleepover and everything felt like it was really slow. I pulled over as I thought it was the car. I looked up and saw a Concorde flying above me. The type that were a common sight in the 90s and before. I’m 100% it was a Concorde and not a similar looking plane as I grew up near air fields and ports and watched them daily.

The car that was driving behind me had vanished. There was no where for it to go as we were on a very narrow country lane and over taking would have been very difficult. Even the birds were moving slower, like they were hovering not gliding.
I got back in the car and after 10 minutes or so everything was back to normal. I arrived late to collect my daughter so I’m not sure what happened with the time as I set off early. I saw the car behind me as I was pulling into the driveway of the house I was going to.

My husband thinks I’m pranking him, my best friend laughed and said I clearly drank too much last night (I didn’t), I’m confident I didn’t faint or black out so I don’t know what the explanation is.
I’ve Googled this specific place to see if there is anything ‘wrong’ but I can’t find any stories and no mention of Concorde sights. Ive seen a few stories of time stopping still for people but I’m sceptical about this sort of stuff. I just can’t shake the creepiness of it! Has this happened to anyone else?

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_in_Wonderland_syndrome

It's been linked to epilepsy and migraines (without the headache)

NHS do recognise this as a symptom of neurological stuff x

I was going to mention alice in wonderland syndrome too. I get this and it’s horrible, feels like the world is slowing down and the size of everything is distorted

writemynameinthesand · 13/02/2023 12:33

However - I don’t drive - and make people aware I have funny episodes so they can help me if needed, as has been needed before.

OMG this has given me chills

You should probably seek medical advice about that Wink

Love all the arrogance of the 'scientists' on these threads!

'oh you MUST have fallen asleep at the wheel' Really? for 20 minutes???

'you MUST be having a seizure!' - Again, a seizure lasting 20 minutes would surely be a medical emergency!

Whilst I don't deny that the OP should get checked out medically in order to rule things out, there are so many incidences of things like this happening. As PP have said Bold St in Liverpool is renowned for it, is everyone who experiences it having a seizure?

And someone has reported a similar thing happening on the same lane, I imagine we'll be told they MUST be lying! But to what purpose?

It is possible that things happen in this world that can't be explained with science. And do you honestly believe that all the people who experience anything in the supernatural is either lying or dumb enough to believe things that aren't there?

OP, I have no explanation, and its wise to get checked out but it's also possible that your brains isn't playing tricks on you and that you experienced something that is currently unexplainable.

I have a neurological condition and my seizures can last hours. Technically they're hundreds of tiny ones which group together to make a fuck off long one, but yeah, hours.

Not 'arrogance' but fact.

Lb603 · 13/02/2023 12:36

This honestly happened to me before.

But slightly differently, we were walking home (up a hill) and we heard a nose and the eye of a massive plane was heading towards us (maybe about 50ft away..) we started running, then when we were still running a few moments later turned round and it was gone.

This was in the days before Google, so we ran home and told my mum there had been a plane crash but nothing ever came up... Was the weirdest experience of my life.

We never said anything to anyone, but years later the same thing was written about in a book but from people who saw it from a different angle.

Hope the OP lives near you rather than me.

That’s terrible advice for someone who needs to rule out causes that would make them a massive danger on the roads.

But if it turns out an actual plane flew over she's not a danger to others

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 13/02/2023 12:40

Do you honestly think you time travelled OP? It's highly doubtful. You need to see an actual medical professional about this.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 13/02/2023 12:40

Isn’t necessarily a seizure but sounds very much like a hallucinatory experience. Especially as it was preceded by what sounds like an auditory hallucination - the sound of ‘Concorde’ - which was lucky as it sounds like that is what made you pull over and stop the car. As for seeing ‘Concorde’ the human brain’s ability to interpret signals means we fill in gaps to complete a narrative (the reason people hallucinate when taking drugs). Eg the drugs (or other hallucinatory trigger) cause signals to be sent to the brain, then the brain interprets them, and necessarily fills in the gaps therefore producing full images for the affected person to see in order to make sense of it all. There are many, many causes for hallucinations including, but not limited to:

  • Falling asleep/waking up
  • Certain drugs, such as marijuana, LSD, cocaine, heroin
  • Fever
  • Severe dehydration
  • Sleep deprivation
  • Migraine
  • Trauma
  • Pain
  • Grieving.
  • UTIs
  • Schizophrenia
  • Bi-Polar
  • Depression
  • Parkinson’s
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Epilepsy
  • Narcolepsy Some of are obviously temporary and non concerning and others a bit more concerning. If anything like this happened to me my first stop would be the GP not flight radar tbh.

My friend had similar happen. One time she thought she had gone from the sofa, into her garden and come back in and sat back on the sofa. I was there, she hadn’t left the sofa. I had been talking to her and she didn’t remember any of that conversation.

She’d had a couple of other similar things happen so couldn’t dismiss them any longer as time slips or whatever. The GP sent her for tests and she was diagnosed with epilepsy.

I really would urge you to see a doctor ASAP.

That's so, so fascinating, and must have been extremely unnerving for your friend. I'm glad she got an answer. I definitely think OP should go to the GP for tests - epilepsy takes many presentations (and, indeed, it could be something else).

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 13/02/2023 12:41

It could have been a type of seizure. Definitely worth seeing your GP and asking to be referred to a neurologist. (I have epilepsy and there are hundreds of different types of seizures).

Iwantabloodypizza · 13/02/2023 12:42

I had something similar about 15 years ago now.

I lived in a really old house which was very rural at the time and I was doing some work in the front garden.

All of a sudden, everything went really still. There were no sounds, nothing at all. No birds, no wind in the trees. The noises from the tractors in the fields stopped. Everything went really still and so quiet.

I looked at my house and through the open front door my hall way and stairs looked different. They were wooden, no carpet and the floor in front of them was wood and not tiled. I felt absolute terror as ex h and toddler ds were through the house in the back and it felt so odd but I felt rooted in place for a bit.

Then all of a sudden, it all went back to normal. Sounds, breeze, the house looked the same. I ran though the front door shouting for dh, he was flying thought the back door holding ds looking like he had shit himself and said “did you feel that? What the fuck happened, it was like the world stopped turning are you okay?”

Never could work out what happened. The chances of us both having some sort of seizure at the same time are pretty slim.

GloomyDarkness · 13/02/2023 12:43

I'd go see a GP to rule out any neurological problems like absence seizure.

My Dad had two seizure last two years - they can't find out why and he's not driving due to other medical conditions - he's always thought he'd fallen and immediately got back up- people round him saw more prolonged event.

It's possible brain glitch and a test flight coincided - but I'd rule out any long term medical concerns than if that fine chalk it up to one of those odd things - apparent time slips do seem to be a thing that happens to some with no real explications being found.

PrincessOfWaiIs · 13/02/2023 12:43

when I felt a lag

OP this jumped out at me.

Just before I have a seizure I feel like this. As if I'm wading through treacle or as if sounds and things that are moving are slowing down. The best way I can describe it is like when you dream you're running away from something but your legs won't go fast enough and you seem almost rooted to the spot - it's the same sort of feeling. Really unsettling and confusing.

Please do get checked out.

Cornettoninja · 13/02/2023 12:46

Ionlydrinkondaysendinginy · 13/02/2023 12:37

A plane that makes it feel like time has slowed down? Okay then.

Iwantabloodypizza · 13/02/2023 12:47

We had two dogs as well who right after were going berserk and barking furiously - totally out of character for two docile golden retrievers.

RamonaBadwolf · 13/02/2023 12:48

I experienced something similar, albeit around 15 years ago. I was with three friends and we all experienced the same thing so we ruled out anything seizure related. We were on Dartmoor, popped to a cute looking country pub, went out to the beer garden and felt that slow feeling walking to the door. When we got outside it was like we had been plunged into WW2. Hundreds of soldiers, military vehicles etc. it was surreal. I wondered if we had walked into a film set but no cameras, no crew, nothing. Very strange!

LookItsMeAgain · 13/02/2023 12:48

Could you find out, rather than focussing on the plane or the noise, whether there was a significant death that occurred in the area or if someone who was a plane spotter passed away or someone who lived in the area was involved in the Concorde crash perhaps? Try and see if there is a significance of the date/time when it occurred to someone who lives/lived in the area.

I'm a sceptic when I hear of things like this happening.

I wouldn't rule anything in or out at this stage. I think some investigating might need to be done.

fancyfie · 13/02/2023 12:48

Just think which might be more likely, OP. A paranormal event/time slip or something medical.

ItchyBillco · 13/02/2023 12:49

It’s not ‘arrogant’ or ridiculous to suggest that what happened to the OP is more likely to be neurological rather than a blip in the matrix or actual time travel… Christ almighty.

Especially as she lost 20 minutes. No one is suggesting if it was a seizure that it lasted 20 minutes either, it can last seconds and cause total confusion and lethargy for a while afterwards.

Do people really think the ‘woo’ is more likely than it being a neurological symptom, be that a migraine or interrupted electrical activity/seizure? 😳

chali7 · 13/02/2023 12:49

How strange for you! I hope you get your answers.

If it helps...

You can check flights though to see if there was a plane in the area at that time, and what it was.

Flight radar app allows you to go back and see what was in the sky at the time - if you remember your location.

DotAndCarryOne2 · 13/02/2023 12:50

Nowfeeltheneedtopost · 13/02/2023 12:17

It sounds like you had a seizure in which you retained consciousness. I'm sorry but you need to immediately inform DVLA since they (and your GP) will need to consider if you are fit to continue driving. As you can see in the link below, a seizure in which you lose consciousness is an automatic removal of your driving licence but a seizure in which you retain consciousness (as would appear to be the case here) may be OK to continue to drive.

www.gov.uk/epilepsy-and-driving

I'm sorry but time travel doesn't exist so the only way you would have "lost" 30 mins as you suggest later is that you had a seizure.

The OP needs to see a doctor before doing any of this because the form for reporting to DLVA asks for details of the medical condition and how it affects driving ability. There’s no definite evidence that this was a seizure - could have been a flashback or stress induced, so the best course of action is an appointment with GP and ask for advice. If the GP advises you to stop driving then you inform DVLA. Usually if you’re seizure free for 12 months you can apply to get your licence back.

FrenchFancie · 13/02/2023 12:51

It’s probably worth getting checked over by your GP but…..

as an aside this sort of thing features in a series of books I love - did you see anyone in an ominous black cloak or any odd looking black buildings / pods?

joking aside, probably best to get checked over just in case, hope all is well….

GloomyDarkness · 13/02/2023 12:52

FIL went to GP because he just had this sense of doom.

MIL was all for not bothering GP but he went and turned out he was having a first heart attack which they caught and started treatment really quickly.

So I really do think it worth getting things checked out even it doesn't feel necessary. It could be the location throwing up some odd sensory input your way- I grew up near a well know very bloody battle field - very pretty area but certain locations in certain weather conditions were know to give even skeptics bad vibes.

fancyfie · 13/02/2023 12:53

Thing is I was fully conscience and felt medically fine. If it was a stroke/seizure wouldn’t I feel something physically happening with my body?

You wouldn't necessarily know. Hence people advising you to get checked out. You may of course have time travelled...😀
