What just happened to me!?

I’m prepared to be told I’m mentally unwell and need to see a doctor (last resort) but I’m certain I just entered a time glitch.

I was driving into the countryside to collect my daughter from a sleepover and everything felt like it was really slow. I pulled over as I thought it was the car. I looked up and saw a Concorde flying above me. The type that were a common sight in the 90s and before. I’m 100% it was a Concorde and not a similar looking plane as I grew up near air fields and ports and watched them daily.

The car that was driving behind me had vanished. There was no where for it to go as we were on a very narrow country lane and over taking would have been very difficult. Even the birds were moving slower, like they were hovering not gliding.
I got back in the car and after 10 minutes or so everything was back to normal. I arrived late to collect my daughter so I’m not sure what happened with the time as I set off early. I saw the car behind me as I was pulling into the driveway of the house I was going to.

My husband thinks I’m pranking him, my best friend laughed and said I clearly drank too much last night (I didn’t), I’m confident I didn’t faint or black out so I don’t know what the explanation is.
I’ve Googled this specific place to see if there is anything ‘wrong’ but I can’t find any stories and no mention of Concorde sights. Ive seen a few stories of time stopping still for people but I’m sceptical about this sort of stuff. I just can’t shake the creepiness of it! Has this happened to anyone else?

Our brains can definitely make us see things that aren't there. I had this a few times (nothing so spectacularas concorde, but still disconcerting) in the first sleep deprived weeks of motherhood,a few times.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 13/02/2023 11:20

Concord isn't the only delta wing aircraft. You probably saw another one that was flying for an airshow or something.

You wouldn't have seen concord regularly at an airfield in the 90s.

newfriend05 · 13/02/2023 11:21

OP there is a fab thread on here about this sort of time glitch.. your not the only one , but if it happens again check with your GP to be on the safe side

I'm sure concord is out of commission. My Aunt went on one of the last flights on it years ago. Could have been a different plane. Car behind you could have stopped and you drove on hence you could no longer see it behind you. Then it started back up and hence you see it behind you again.

BreatheAndFocus · 13/02/2023 11:24

There are different types of seizures. It was my first thought when I read what you wrote. A relative has temporal lobe epilepsy and experiences ‘time slips’ which they think are real. Even if it’s only a tiny possibility, it would be worth ruling out - for your own safety and that of others.

Whatskillsgap · 13/02/2023 11:26

Alice in Wonderland syndrome? I have seizures and sometimes this happens and things turn dreamy!

And different speeds and sizes (just like in Alice in Wonderland!)

My neurology consultant told me all about it

2wombraiders · 13/02/2023 11:27

Someone on the Facebook group has come forward having a similar experience on the same country lane.
I definitely wouldn’t have fallen asleep after 9 hours sleep, I will struggle to sleep tonight because I’m so refreshed.
I’ll bare in mind the seizure points but as this has happened to someone else I’m more inclined to believe it was real.
thanks for the links to other threads and places this has happened in, I didn’t realise it was so common but it’s definitely got my sceptical self reconsidering!

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_in_Wonderland_syndrome

It's been linked to epilepsy and migraines (without the headache)

NHS do recognise this as a symptom of neurological stuff x

WeAreTheHeroes · 13/02/2023 11:27

You need to see the GP. You didn't see Concorde and the car behind you didn't disappear. Something happened in your brain and the fact it happened when you were driving is particularly concerning. You may well have momentarily fallen asleep or it could be a seizure of some sort. Please don't dismiss it as time lag or some other mumbo jumbo.

Pixiedust1234 · 13/02/2023 11:29

You fell asleep at the wheel. What felt like 10 minutes to you could have been only 30 seconds sleep. Just because you had a good night's sleep doesn't mean you can't nap. It could have been because you were so relaxed due to lots of sleep and no child, and a quiet, lovely drive combined.

Google Bold Street time slip!

I was going to mention bold street in Liverpool

FadoFado · 13/02/2023 11:30

I was sad that when I walked down Bold Street I wasn't hurtled back in time.

Kerfuffler · 13/02/2023 10:52

Could you hear as well as see it?
I remember Concorde going over our house a fair few times and it was loud.

Yes. My parents ' house was on the flight path where it went sonic. Very loud.

Whatskillsgap · 13/02/2023 11:34

I used to think Concorde was God angry that I wasn't asleep yet! Used to fly over at 8ish when I was little

BOOM BOOM

BellePeppa · 13/02/2023 11:36

I’ve got no explanation but I don’t think you’re imagining it as such, it could be some sort of ‘strange phenomena’ that has no explanation. I’ll always remember a strange incident back in the 80s when I was lying in bed and felt the weight of someone on top of me but there was no one there. It was dark but there was definitely no real person there (two dogs in the house would most certainly have alerted me to intruders). I felt really weird for days after (not violated but a weird otherness feeling). Even now I sometimes look back on it and wonder what it was.

This is the most likely explanation, unless it was another delta wing aircraft, which is unlikely. AFAIK the only delta wing aircraft currently flying are military, so they’d be in military livery, which looks nothing like Concorde did.

Roseyposeypudding · 13/02/2023 11:36

I used to have these intense anxiety symptoms/panic attacks that were similar to this.

Was this at the same time or a completely different day?

This sounds like sleep paralysis.

Cantbebotheredwithausername · 13/02/2023 11:39

I sincerely doubt you experienced any type of actual time travel.

Possible explanations:

  1. The concorde was actually there. It might have been a test flight, possibly the plane was due to participate in some sort of veteran flight show.
  2. The car behind you could've stopped or made an unexpected turn while you were busy looking for the plane.
  3. You might've had a seizure. Certain types of partial seizures can last for a while, allow you to carry on normal activities as long as you can perform them on auto-pilot (such as driving a car, if you're an experienced driver), and involve no loss of consiousness or awareness of the seizure itself.
  4. The noise and vibrations from the airplane can cause "weird" reactions from your nervous system (or have triggered a seizure). I doubt you'd have lost half an hour from a normal nervous system reaction (fight/flight mode or simple loss of attention/concentration) to noise and vibration. A partial complex seizure sounds more likely.

If you experience anything like this or any other neurological symptoms again, I'd advise you to see a doctor. If this is a one-time occurrence, I'd let it go.

TomatoSandwiches · 13/02/2023 11:42

I've previously had similar experiences in moments of extremely high stress situations, did you have any issues with speech at all op?

Airymanning · 13/02/2023 11:42

I don't think you are crazy.

CountryMusicHottie · 13/02/2023 11:43

A relative had a very similar experience and was convinced it was some sort of glitch in the matrix. It happened again a few months later and she got diagnosed with epilepsy. I would get checked out by a doctor.

MattDillonsEyebrows · 13/02/2023 11:44

Love all the arrogance of the 'scientists' on these threads!

'oh you MUST have fallen asleep at the wheel' Really? for 20 minutes???

'you MUST be having a seizure!' - Again, a seizure lasting 20 minutes would surely be a medical emergency!

Whilst I don't deny that the OP should get checked out medically in order to rule things out, there are so many incidences of things like this happening. As PP have said Bold St in Liverpool is renowned for it, is everyone who experiences it having a seizure?

And someone has reported a similar thing happening on the same lane, I imagine we'll be told they MUST be lying! But to what purpose?

It is possible that things happen in this world that can't be explained with science. And do you honestly believe that all the people who experience anything in the supernatural is either lying or dumb enough to believe things that aren't there?

OP, I have no explanation, and its wise to get checked out but it's also possible that your brains isn't playing tricks on you and that you experienced something that is currently unexplainable.

tattygrl · 13/02/2023 11:45

Many people experience things like this!

I think a GP check up is a good idea, though, because it could be seizure related (or anything else), and better safe than sorry.
