If you won the EuroMillions, what would be the first thing you'd actually go out and buy?

As per title, imagine you've somehow suddenly just come into a huge amount of money. What would be the first thing you'd go out and buy? Not talking about houses, cars etc. as all that will come with time. Also assuming that you are going to donate a healthy portion to charity and those you know who need it. I mean the first thing you're actually going to leave the house and spend money on for yourself?

I would go to the nearest nice department store and buy every permutation of the Chanel perfume products so all the soap, body creams, talc, sprays etc. and a big bottle of each eau de parfum. Would probably buy a nice bottle of champagne too but still be too scared to buy Cristal or the like!

Doctors appointment with a private doctor. Just been fobbed off by my GP yet again and no referral. I would love to have money to spend on private healthcare to get some procedures done and dusted that I need.

ifonly4 · 09/02/2023 14:44

First thing I'd chose to spend it on is a really nice meal out with DH and DD. Simple I know, but that's what I'd spend it on first.

DisforDarkChocolate · 09/02/2023 16:02

My phone is spying on me, so many adverts for F&M now. I may change mine to buying posh food.

The next available flight is Palermo so a ticket to Palermo.

You could just do a private charter and go to Biarritz, for example. Anywhere you fancied - anywhere!

Gymnopedie · 09/02/2023 16:43

Probably a packet of fags and a bottle of whisky to get over the shock.

Then book a series of laser skin tightening treatments.

Then a top of the range new Lexus (DP always wanted one) so that I wouldn't look out of place looking at expensive houses.

Then hire a chauffeur because I can't drive (and never will be able to before anyone says anything).

Then on day 2...

KateStev · 09/02/2023 16:49

Literally the first thing I would buy when the money hit my account is a dyson airwrap. Then as many books as I could carry. Then many pairs of new shoes. Then some new handbags. Then maybe I’d think about buying the children something 😆

WaddleAway · 09/02/2023 17:07

Ooh a Dyson Airwrap is a good shout. And a Jo Malone candle.

Needmorelego · 09/02/2023 17:13

@Gymnopedie I've always said I would learn to drive if I came into some money but actually I think I would love to have a chauffeur to do the driving for me.
It would be great.

Zippedydoo123 · 09/02/2023 17:19

I would make sure a fair chunk of my winnings went to the Trussell Trust. I hate the state our country is in. Nobody should starve in such a developed nation.

Isseywith3witchycats · 09/02/2023 17:32

2 tickets to a luxury holiday in Barbados for two weeks so i could spend that time in a fabulous location and really think about what i am going to do with the rest of the money, new house, new car houses for my kids as they all rent their houses

bloodyplanes · 09/02/2023 17:32

A farm

Ah but I could book a private plane in Palermo. I suspect chartering a plane takes time. The flight to Palermo would leave before that (in fact it has)!

Doesn't have to be Palermo, just the next plane out of the UK. I need a change of scene.

BigGreen · 09/02/2023 19:35

I only buy things I really need. So I'd go batshit in John Lewis and buy all pretty stationery and multiple serving plates and table linens that are completely unnecessary and superfluous.

(And a big house to put them in when I'm allowed Smile).

WedonttalkaboutMaureen · 08/02/2023 14:21

@BellePeppa I like the hotel idea. I'd read about people "living" on cruise ships permanently too.
Not sure DH would go for that but he's definitely up for a massive, tailored to our specs, motorhome to travel the world.

I’ve wanted to live in a luxury hotel for years. People think I’m mad and that I wouldn’t like it but I know I would and if you were very rich you could just change hotels and locations on a whim. I can’t think of a single place where I want to put long term roots down.

Logicalreasoning · 09/02/2023 22:29

A house.. desperately need the space, I’m not even greedy, I don’t care about winning millions because tbh I wouldn’t know what to do with it all, I’d just like around 500,000.. pay off bills, debts, buy the house next door to my mums which is no sale right now and then book a holiday of a lifetime..

IsThereAPenOfIt · 09/02/2023 22:30

Some Ferrero Rocher

MadameDe · 09/02/2023 22:40

I would Start by applying to do a part-time degree in creative writing. That's the first 20k gone.

Then I would hand my notice in at work.

Boot shopping - an activity not done since I went through my divorce.

Yes creative writing is very appealing. I would love to learn to write short stories.

Deathraystare · 10/02/2023 08:04

@ChickenMaths

There's a place in Bath that does a 'Reading Spa' where you go and meet a book personal shopper, have tea and cake whilst they source all the books they think you'd like... heaven.

Wow! Why aren't there more places like this!

thecatsthecats · 10/02/2023 09:38

I feel like people are cheating the concept. You can't buy a house immediately!

I'd buy a massive fuck off takeaway, a bottle of champagne, then a massive takeaway dessert too.

Then sit around feeling overwhelmed. Not eat much of the massive takeaway, drink so much champagne I'd feel sick, then leave the dessert.

THEN I'd start to enjoy myself.

Beetie1 · 10/02/2023 09:40

A fancy writing set - for my resignation letter. Grin

Strawberrydelight78 · 26/03/2023 17:47

Set up my own disability village. With indoor and outdoor accessable leisure facilities. I'm thinking gym swimming pool and spa, bowling alley, soft play and sensory facility, activity arcade with all the usual machines and pool and snooker tables, trampoline park, petting farm wheelchair accessable adventure playground, shops to give some more able residents independence restaurants and a nightclub. Pipe dream I know.

Cantkeepkeepingon · 26/03/2023 17:51

A house. It's all I want in life, a house that is mine with a small garden.

lieselotte · 26/03/2023 17:59

I genuinely don't know. I think I'd be petrified that if I won so much money something awful would happen like a cancer diagnosis or an accident. I guess at least you'd have the money to throw at the problem, but even so.

I don't play the lottery. DH does buy a ticket on occasion. I don't think he'd rush out and buy anything, just hand in his notice at work.

Why would winning money make those things more likely to happen?
