Continuation of previous lifeboat threads (thread 4).

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

Been way too busy with real life stuff this last few weeks to post here, or anywhere else. Like others I took a look at the new old place. Ts&Cs look fair but Christ the ill will that permeates. A sad end to a once great talkboard. Here is much nicer.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 03/03/2023 16:50

That is indeed a puzzler, Elderberry. Time to call Sherlock.

I've had cloud ear mushrooms, and quite like them, but only from shops. I am too frit to try foraged mushrooms.

kittykarate · 03/03/2023 16:54

I heard a large thump the other day, and mysteriously a bag of kibble had thrown itself out of the kitchen cupboard onto the floor.

weaseleyes · 03/03/2023 16:59

Presumably much of the underpinning rationale for shit show posting on that thread is to demonstrate that the topic is simply too unspeakable and divisive to be discussed, it will be said that it was ever thus, then there's a good rationale for everyone being kept off it.

More importantly, what was the embarrassing old name for wood ear?

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 03/03/2023 17:01

Google it, I'm not going to write it. It contains echoes of bad assumptions in Europe.

weaseleyes · 03/03/2023 17:07

Ok, I'll take your word for it. I assumed it was slightly salacious and was baffled that the wikipedia link above just made mention of jellyfish!

Tricyrtis2022 · 03/03/2023 17:10

I knew it as Old Men's Ears. When we were in Taiwan, I once had it served as a dessert, in syrup. It was odd but not awful. I'd be interested to try it in a savoury dish.

MavisMcMinty · 03/03/2023 17:11

Oh! Took a bit of a scroll down the google page to discover the name for Wood Ear mushrooms you must mean.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 03/03/2023 17:12

It has the advantage that (like puffballs) there isn't anything toxic that it can be confused with.

MavisMcMinty · 03/03/2023 17:20

Oh dear, meant to ask my Dad not to get macman a wine box for his birthday, but too late, it’s arrived, and we already have a coupla dozen bottles. Maybe we should hold a wine sale in the village? I could sell some of my spare skincare and cosmetics at the same time.

Anyway, felt obliged to open one of the many bottles, a very nice white, so I may be asleep (unconscious) very soon, 1.5 servings are my absolute limit.

MavisMcMinty · 03/03/2023 17:23

We have nearly 5 months before the next box arrives for my birthday. That sounds achievable. A bottle or two a week.

WE CAN DO THIS!

Dotellhimpike · 03/03/2023 17:30

That's the spirit!

Ginmonkeyagain · 03/03/2023 18:37

@weaseleyes I think it is more akin to territorial pissing to be honest.

CyanCrystalViolet · 03/03/2023 18:56

Just realised we haven’t had cat photos for a while. Kasper’s WTF face. He is both fascinated and terrified by bathwater in equal measure.

weaseleyes · 03/03/2023 19:01

I hate to think how K could ever up his WTF levels if he actually slipped in the bath. A couple of mine have done that in the past and the rage, horror and betrayal is off the charts.

MavisMcMinty · 03/03/2023 19:03

Ha ha, great pic, Cyan!

Tashie “fell in” the bath so often as a kitten that we eventually realised she was jumping in, not falling in. She loves the whirligig thing the water does down the plughole at the end. Hilariously, she’ll keep picking up a leg to shake the water from it, then puts it back down in the water to shake a different leg.

Kucinghitam · 03/03/2023 19:11

Phoebe slipped off the edge and fell into the bath once - I swear she levitated off the surface of the water to get out! (Much to my relief, actually, seeing as I would probably have sustained serious injury if she'd actually splashed down onto me).

She never tried walking on the edge of the bath whilst somebody was in it ever again.

Ah. Better call Ghostbusters, you've got an outofkiltergeist.

What? NINE bottles?

CyanCrystalViolet · 03/03/2023 19:48

He hasn’t fallen in… yet. Which surprises me because he’s so clumsy, but I do tell him to be careful. I very rarely have baths so it’s such a novelty for him (and me).

Darling Kaspar does not approve at all, does he?

Gonners · 03/03/2023 20:13

Kaspar is obviously very concerned about you getting so wet.

CyanCrystalViolet · 03/03/2023 20:13

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 03/03/2023 20:06

Darling Kaspar does not approve at all, does he?

He does not. In fact the last time I had a bath he had a 💩 in his (bathroom) litter box 10 minutes after I’d got in.

weaseleyes · 03/03/2023 20:21

Not quite the relaxing bath plus scented candle experience you had in mind?
