Continuation of previous lifeboat threads (thread 4).

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

I've now got my new chat up line: "Come mushroom picking with me - I'm a fungi to be with".

I'll be astonished if you survive the day.

Christ on a bike. I just looked at the womens rights thread in the old place, which is populated by the same drive-by cunts as before, with a hextra sprinkling of little-boy-level attempts to offer some laughable reasoning.

The level of ignorance of just about anything in the field is incredible. There's absolutely no point in that thread, because nothing has changed. The board accepts the most egregious lies as valid posts, and though the evil brother is bravely catching a point or two, he will be shouted down, I've no doubt.

(I see that xartra has been absent for a while, having - IMO - sublty fomented the attacks on women and destroyed the fucking boards. I was an admirer of xartra for a while, he had been helpful in the past. Oh well.)

Sadly, though, there will be no reconciliation ever, even with long-term friends. By their posting, and I do get why, it can be lovely there at times, they are accepting misogyny. It was the glib acceptance that the misogynists were actually right by so many posters, without any engagement, discussion with women that killed it.

If @Dotellhimpike could start a thread there on queer theory and not have it banned, if self-ID Scotland/anywhere could be discussed (it never was), if misogyny itself were to be policed ... maybe. I'm still livid and I'm not ashamed to be; this has hurt. Those boards accept shitposting from ignorant bastards. I'll not be back - and I'll have to take a break here too, and go and look for the sort of weasels that don't piss me the fuck off.

Thanks for the tip about nettle soup now - I always think about making it too late in the year.

Late in the summer, try picking and drying nettle seeds. I had some seasoning a salad at a local forage 'n eat place, and they were nice:

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 03/03/2023 10:39

I know what you mean angelico, the slight optimism I felt yesterday has evaporated. Don't stay away from here for too long.

I'm fascinated by the idea of nettle seeds as seasoning - must try that.

Tricyrtis2022 · 03/03/2023 10:39

@MmePoppySeedDefage if you cut them right back after flowering, like cut-and-come-again greens, the new growth is fine to eat.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 03/03/2023 10:41

Has anyone else here tried ground ivy? They are especially keen on it at the forage 'n eat place I mentioned and it is really nice in cooking - they added it to some polenta, which was super. It's a relation of mint, but more herby than minty:

MmePoppySeedDefage · 03/03/2023 10:48

Wow Angelico I just popped over & see what you mean. It's got a school bully crowing vibe.

Hey ho. Much better over here, as the people are so much more sensible, despite the irritating software that lets people post before they get to the end of a thread.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 03/03/2023 10:54

I think I've put ground ivy in that mixed green soup but not in anything that gives it a leading role. Must be more adventurous as there's plenty of it in the garden. I don't think it's flowering yet - I do add the flowers to salad for a bit of colour, but again just a few - dark purply blue to contast with pink bistort and lady's smock, yellow dandelions and white jack-by-the-hedge.

I enjoy spring - pity we've got that cold snap to get through first.

I don't know what's to be gained by looking, TBH. If there are misogynists, pious frauds and righteous rages aplenty, we already knew that.

To turn to brighter (random) things, remember the Malaysian lift buttons I showed you?

There is currently great amusement on Malaysian social media because of this recent phenomenon (see photo).

Indeed @Kucinghitam

That's the issue with purges - there is always more purging to be done.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 03/03/2023 11:01

It is dawning on me belatedly that there are a lot of people over there who are rather stupid. Which is probably why they are so determined to join in any groupthink that presents itself, and love using big words in the hope of baffling their foes with bullshit.

The phenomenon being the presence of a use by date?

MmePoppySeedDefage · 03/03/2023 12:09

I know Kuc. Last time I do it, definitely.

Haha, not the use by date in itself.

The clue is what these lift buttons and the food packet have in common...

Popped back into the old place and I'm picking my eyebrows off the ceiling. I feel like dropping a (metaphorical) hand grenade in there, something that will trigger them for years.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 03/03/2023 12:43

Does it go 2022, 2023, 2023A, 2025; or 2022, 2023A, 2023B, 2025?

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 03/03/2023 12:48

Oh I see now, I didn't get it.

Must

not

use

the

unlucky

number

It's great that 13 is okay! I'm imaging places that get Chinese and western visitors having numbers that go 12, 12b, 12c, 15

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 03/03/2023 12:49

or rather, 12, 12A, 12B, 15 . . .

Kucinghitam · 03/03/2023 12:54

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 03/03/2023 12:43

Does it go 2022, 2023, 2023A, 2025; or 2022, 2023A, 2023B, 2025?

The first one! It's the 4 that has to be avoided.

In a weird parallel to the purity-spiralling of TRSOH, the superstition about 4 was only a Chinese thing (Malaysia being a multi-ethnic country) and would only have been applied by Chinese people to money-gifts, house numbers, dates for important events. At some point in the past decade, it started spreading more widely and that was when the lift-button/floor number thing started. Now, to everyone's bemusement, it's appearing on use-by dates!

(My parents' previous apartment block, built in the late-90s/early-00s, has completely normal numbering).

Ahhh. Am now imagining the New Year’s Eve party.. ‘Cheers everyone. Here’s to a happy and healthy 2023A!’

2039A

but what happens in 2044?

CyanCrystalViolet · 03/03/2023 13:18

I hope they’ve figured it out before they get to 4000. There aren’t enough letters in the alphabet
