Continuation of previous lifeboat threads (thread 4).

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

Missing earrings: invariably in the bed or occasionally underneath it.

yup, obv, see the moving furniture ref. And I stripped the bed. But they weren't making it easy for me this time.

Tricyrtis2022 · 20/02/2023 15:52

Mr T got the raging hunger and came home with nasty sausage rolls. I had one and it was horrible - reckon the filling was probably pink slime - and he had a couple but didn't think much of them either. I cut them up and put them out for the corvids, as they generally eat anything, but even they don't want them. Grim.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 20/02/2023 16:02

The traditional rebuke to fussy eaters 'you'd follw a crow a mile for that potato (or sausage roll)' ain't gonna help this time.

Tricyrtis2022 · 20/02/2023 16:04

No, it ain't!

Even the pigeons are looking askance.

kittykarate · 20/02/2023 18:14

Cats have managed to occupy the middle of the sofa, so we can only perch on the ends.

Aww. How blissful. Wish I was cat sometimes.

  • ”a”
Gonners · 20/02/2023 18:55

I think it's better without the "a". I don't think cats use it when they give you the Hard Stare that says "Obey me, human, for I Am Cat!"

CyanCrystalViolet · 20/02/2023 20:01

That is Very Cat. Meanwhile squidgy sofa K. He sleeps in the strangest positions.

That cat picture is ADORABLE, @kittykarate! And glad to see that K can maintain his impeccable plushness in every position.

Brings back a vague memory of a Twilight Zone episode I saw when I was a child.

The premise (IIRC) was that every passing moment, everything in the world was literally rebuilt by mysterious beings. Houses, everything in them, the works. Like a film set. People would basically experience each moment by somehow "appearing" in that new built environment, and then moving on to the next built environment when the moment passed.

The explanation of why sometimes you'd lose something, then go back and find it somewhere you'd searched before (or somewhere unexpected), was that the mysterious beings would occasionally err and forget to put the thing in the new environment - but would remember to add it back to the next one, or else pop it somewhere else entirely.

I remember that one! I think the characters in that episode found themselves there (then?) early while things were still being built for the moment that they should have been in.

NotDrowningJustCrowing · 20/02/2023 22:25

Lovely gingers!

The lost have been found. The missing boot was in another box, hurrah! The adaptor plug was in another organiser put there by not me. I now have two adaptors which is slightly annoying but I'm of the belief that if I hadn't bought a new one I'd still not know where the old one was. The best news is figuring out where the plug was for my ugly recliner. The plug was not lost but what was "lost" was some sort of odd thing that the cable from the chair plugs into and the cable from the plug plugs into and then, etc.

All is good in the house of crow.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 20/02/2023 23:04

Ah yes - my dad had an electric recliner and the cable arrangement on that was some sort of multistage affair that had us confused for ages (he got it second hand, and it came without either the middle section or instructions).

Glad everything turned up.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 20/02/2023 23:07

Coincidentally - or under the power of suggestion - I've been playing in recliner chairs as well today. I was meant to be looking at chests of drawers, but it seemed a shame not to try and few chairs and sofas while I was there.

artant · 20/02/2023 23:36

I reckon I’d really like a reclining chair. I excel at lounging about doing very little.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 20/02/2023 23:45

We have a couple of tilting chairs, but they're not as good. Expecially as the tilting mechanism is a little temperamental, and sometimes crashes forward if you've not pushed the lever hard enough.

artant · 21/02/2023 00:03

My desk chair tilts back but requires feet pushing against something to stay tilted; there is a crate if stuff I need to sort out under my work table which meets that need (so will probably never get sorted out). Leaning back is ideal for having a little think.

mach2 · 21/02/2023 06:31

I'm using the recliner I bought for mum (she has a fluffier perch these days), though I don't recline it much, strangely.

OMG yes bnbn, that was exactly it!

@kittykarate and @CyanCrystalViolet SQUEEE at gorgeous cats.

And happy Pancake Day everyone!

And happy Pancake Day everyone!

Yes indeed. My favourite are made with bananas and eggs. Whisk up the eggs, add a small amount of mashed banana, fry gently in butter, flip over, serve and eat just as quick as you can. Lovely with fresh blueberries and whipped cream or just on their own. Can also add jam or serve with grated cheese if you prefer it savoury. Great if you're gluten free.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 21/02/2023 11:02

They sound good.

For today though, I started with American-style pancakes with very thin bacon and maple syrup, and plan regular pancakes with lemon and sugar for lunch.

Which reminds me, I need to search for the second box of eggs. I know they're somewhere in the kitchen.

BinkerTell · 21/02/2023 11:13

I am going to indulge in Nutella and strawberry pancakes as it's been a hideous couple of weeks.

I am glad you've found all the lost things @NotDrowningJustCrowing and are all settled in. Django and Francis made my heart melt!

I love how @CyanCrystalViolet has ensured her soft furnishings complement Kaspar.

I am currently unable to get up out of bed as Tinks has sat on me and decided I need to be here a bit longer which is ironic as it's the first time in two weeks I've actually been well enough to leave the house and made a plan to go to the library.

I did actually leave the house on Thursday but that was to go to A&E so doesn't count.

Britinme · 21/02/2023 11:21

I have no pancake plans as I'm staying at my son's and I don't think he keeps things like flour in the house, and there's no point buying any as it won't get used otherwise. I am knee-deep into trying to get his flat in a suitable condition following a landlord's inspection which was polite but merciless. If I tell you that his tiny kitchen measures about 8 feet by 6 feet and it took me three hours, half a bottle of cleaning spray, a scrubbing sponge and a full roll and a half of kitchen paper to clean it yesterday, you'll get the picture.

BinkerTell · 21/02/2023 11:34

That sounds exhausting, @Britinme. It must be very hard for you, being so far away usually. I was thinking of you and wondered whether you'd watched the programme "Inside Autistic Minds" that was on BBC2 last Tuesday - the second episode is on tonight. I thought it was extremely well done, presented by Chris Packham.

duc748 · 21/02/2023 13:06

Lovely cat pix! I was foolish enough last night to make a one-sentence post on the old place, and the response this morning only renews my views, I'm done with that place.
