I'm shocked but not surprised. This world is depressing and scary for women.

I don’t know why some people are puzzled by why aggressive acts are largely carried out by men. Testosterone has a lot to answer for. The tendency to behave in a controlling and aggressive way is hard-wired into men. Way back that’s what men had to do. They fought, hunted, killed, while the women accommodated them and nurtured the young. The natural tendency can be largely suppressed through familial and social inhibitions, and varying testosterone levels obviously play a part, but scratch the surface of the wrong man, and this is what you get. You can’t switch off biology, unfortunately, and in men where the inhibiting factors have failed for many different reasons, male aggression in its many forms will continue to rear its ugly head.

Such bullshit. Name one other species where the female doesn’t hunt and can’t feed themselves. Of course women hunted too, yes testosterone makes men more violent, but let’s not pretend that’s the only factor responsible.

But then if it's a thread about x topic then unless you read every person's perspective, it's a mix as to the responses it will get

Ultimately, if people have a view they want to advance, sometimes the most effective option available is not to make it in a particular setting.

TheGander · 07/02/2023 18:00

It’s an awful week for news in terms of violence against/ murder of women and children, by men. The headteacher and her daughter, murdered by the husband. Bennylyn and her daughter murdered by that psychopath in Scotland. The policeman David Carrick admitting to dozens of rape. Nicola Bullee missing. Sometimes it’s hard not to feel that we are in a world that is populated by deranged, dangerous men. It’s also all around us in popular culture, Happy Valley, all those forensic pathology dramas and documentaries, endless programs about serial killers.

you could write to Karen Ingala Smith, she is on Twitter or online, and ask for your neighbour to be added to the list .

Agreed, if you contact Karen, I am sure she will add your neighbour’s name to the list. She does ask for information on any other deaths on her blog posts:

What I mean is that what a woman might do while psychotic is nothing like the cold blooded murder carried out by this man and should not be held up as somehow equivalent. Hope that makes sense.

Thank you - yes it does.

A friend's DIL experienced postpartum psychosis and she was in an horrific state - hallucinations, paranoia, terrified of everyone around her. It was dreadful - she really was literally "out-of-her-mind" and had no idea what she was doing.

Delphinium20 · 07/02/2023 18:08

I really hate that the media defaults to putting up a smiling family photo to announce their deaths, knowing what they know about the extremely high likelihood that the husband did it.

Lentilweaver · 07/02/2023 14:27

So much obfuscation. All the ' yes women do it too' posters, please go and check the stats on sexual violence and family amnihilation. Digging up a rare case of women killing their children doesn't make you clever.

Do you think a female met officer would be able to get away with what David Carrick did?

As for the pathetic poster who said I am the problem, yes women ranting on a forum is the same as men annihilating their families.

What a pathetic response. Hate leads to violence. Stop twisting this tragic event for your own political purposes.

True but then you get eg five threads all advocating different angles and perspective

This is really inaccurate!

Testosterone is powerful but it can be channeled in so many ways. It can powerfully increase your focus so you do really well in your career, it can make you love risky sports - a love of which can take over your life as an amazing hobby or even pro sport/profession - and a bunch of other things. But it doesn't make you a violent maniac. Loads of other negative personality traits need to be there too to make you into a violent maniac.

I hope Nicola Sturgeon and those other misogynistic MP twats who openly shout down women and feel pride for doing it and who vote for ‘men’s feels’ are having a long hard think tonight.

You appear to have believed all the misogynistic lies and bollocks that used to be taught in schools about women from "way back" times. You also have obviously never spent any time amongst animals in nature.

Why is it being reported by some media sources that apparently this scumbag reported his wife to the police for "striking" him??

Why does the media always seem to imply that somehow women, who are murdered by the men in their lives, have some part to play in what has happened to them? And who exactly has released this information to the press in the first place? Who benefits from this information? It seems that the only reason this might be reported is as some form of mitigation for the murdering piece of shit. After all, it's always the fault of women.

He is the one who has murdered his wife and child. Trying to shift blame onto his wife, after she has died at his hand, is absolutely disgusting in my view.

Yes - women are responsible for their own behaviour, and also for men's.

So obviously EVERYTHING dreadful that happens is the fault of women.

Bitxhes!

milveycrohn · 07/02/2023 18:13

Women DO sometimes kill their families.
I well remember a case when my DC were young, about the same age as the ones the mother killed (ages approx 5 and 3), by giving them a sleeping draft, and then smothering them while they slept. My parents sort of empathised with the mother whose husband had recently left. They implied that we don't know how people behave when something goes wrong, etc etc... I was so upset I had to rush upstairs to make sure my own DC were OK, and hear them sleeping softly, and I knew that I would / could never harm them in that way.
(I can't remember tho, whether the mother killed herself as well).

In this case, I supposed it must be murder suicide simply because it would be unusual for the police to be notified at 1.00 am, unless something had happened. I also supposed it was likely to be the father, simply because few women kill their DC in this way. (in my real life case above the DC were smothered).

I hope the true facts will emerge with the inquest. All I can say is that there were a lot of changes in the family. New home, new jobs for both, new school for daughter, and a dog, all of which may have caused some kind of stress that we know nothing about. Of course I am not justifying it. I really do not understand why people kill their entire family in this way.

ScandinavianSkies · 07/02/2023 18:13

Urghhhh the scum dm have already started to find an angle that it's not his fault.
If any scummy dm journalist is reading this you are vile, you do this every single fucking time.

Bit of an exaggeration there ? Not all of them...

their constant sexualised demands, misogyny, entitlement and dismissal of our needs, and the risk of violence is always there

I see no exaggeration...?

CaveMum · 07/02/2023 18:15

For those using the “men just have more testosterone” excuse, I recommend listening to the Infinite Monkey Cage episode “Battle of the Sexes”. They talk about testosterone and while yes it has an influence (women produce testosterone too y’know!) it’s not the “reason” men are more violent, it has much more to do with socialisation and environment.

For some reason I can’t link to it from my phone, but if you Google “infinite monkey cage battle of the sexes” it will come up.

It’s a terrible thing to happen to that family but I disagree that the world is depressing and scary for women.

i certainly don’t feel that way and neither does any female in my family or friends.

how on earth can you say what all your friends think?
I've got lots of friends, I wouldn't come out with my feelings on feminism, the state of the world, inherent unfairness to all of them, and then update them each time if those feelings have changed after any pertinent news items!

Try and keep up, it’s not speculation!

From the BBC:

George Pattison is believed to have killed Emma Pattison and Lettie, seven, at the family home in school grounds before taking his own life.

All of this along with the fact that we are becoming more aware that politicians are removing or allowing the removal of single sex spaces for women and violent males are able to be in women's prisons, refuges, rape crisis centres etc because they identify as trans women.

It just seems so hopeless.

It's not a good time to be a woman.

Hedjwitch · 07/02/2023 18:22

A murderous cnt AND a coward. What a pathetic human...but God knows what his family must be going through too. I can spare them a thought. But not him!
