What radio station(s) do you listen to?

Wondering what radio stations you listen to. Do you just keep it on in the background for some gentle noise or do you have it loud enough to hear everything and you pay attention most of the time?

If you listen to a non-UK station, what do you listen to and why? Do you tune in different stations depending on where you are (car/kitchen/bathroom/bedroom)?

I tend to listen to RTÉ Lyric FM in the car and Radio Nova (Dublin station) around the house. Looking to branch out and expand my listening horizons.

Have been an avid LBCer since the mid 1980s.

GreenMarigold · 06/02/2023 22:48

Radio 4, LBC or Planet Rock

Petrarkanian · 06/02/2023 22:50

Radio 4 mostly, the world service all night, R2 on the college run and Ashdown FM sometimes.

Greatest Hits.

Background - when in the kitchen or in the car. I find it too distracting when I am working so tend to put on a CD so there is no talking distracting me.

hellobethyname · 06/02/2023 22:54

BBC 6 music and bbc radio 2

UrsulaPandress · 06/02/2023 22:55

Radio 4. Today programme and The Archers on iPad in bed.

Radio 4 in the car unless it’s something I really don’t like when I’ll move to R3.

Silence in the house during the day.

Heart dance

Kisstory and
Hits Radio Pride

I tend to flick channels if a song I don't like comes on.

Mostly Radio 1 - keep thinking I should give it up but it is so familiar and vibrant. I really like Greg James as a broadcaster. Vick Hope is also very good. Neither of them dumb it down.

Occasionally R2 or 6 Music. Very occasionally commercial radio but the ads are so dull.

Confuzzlediddled · 06/02/2023 23:23

I used to love Radio 4, but it has become hysterically woke in the last few years. A few months ago, for example, there was a programme on Jane Austen. Within five minutes they were discussing a minor character in one of her novels who owns a sugar plantation. That then led to a discussion of slavery, which was all they talked about for the rest of the programme. The BBC seems to have evolved into a woke propaganda unit.

That said, ‘In Our Time’, on Thursday mornings, is still the best radio programme ever made. (No doubt the BBC will soon get round to ruining that as well). I also like the Infinite Monkey Cage and the Moral Maze. I generally listen to audiobooks now, though. Listening to Stephen Fry read Sherlock Holmes and P G Wodehouse is pure bliss. I also listen to audiobooks in the car, especially Dickens, Jane Austen and Evelyn Waugh. I think I could live without a TV or the radio tbh.

Virgin always on in the car….and that’s quite a long time as during term time I do about 500miles a week! The content of the breakfast show keeps everyone entertained on the school run. Used to listen to more local stations but got fed up of the ad breaks lasting forever!!

Poppiesway1 · 06/02/2023 23:32

Radio x going to work with Chris Moyles and drive home listening to Johnny Vaughan. On a Saturday morning I drive to work listening to Dermot O’Leary on Radio 2 and then coming home I switch to Rylan (no idea what channel his on!) but I love listening to him.. don’t watch him on TV though!

startingagain17 · 06/02/2023 23:34

Times Radio

MyMachineAndMe · 06/02/2023 23:37

Absolute Radio. It's on all day in the kitchen.

WhisperingGrass · 07/02/2023 00:39

Always LBC, morning, noon and night. Been listening since day 1 in 1973.

James O'Brien is my favourite.

Linnet · 07/02/2023 01:21

I wake up to the radio and it's set to my local radio station.

In the car, the only other place I listen to radio, it's usually Heart 90's or Heart dance. Absolute radio and Absolute 90's seems to drop out a lot depending where I am in town so Heart it is.

Identifyingasadolphin · 07/02/2023 01:22

“Off Radio” Thessalonki Greece, an internet station.
All day every day, fabulous chill music from all around europe.
(I’m in UK with no Greek connections other than holidays)

Also Antenne Bayern and Turkish music stations - on a Roberts internet radio

CallieQ · 07/02/2023 01:27

Radio 2, 4, 6
Greatest Hits

Whatthediddlyfeck · 07/02/2023 01:39

Listened to Radio2 for years but am now more and more moving over to Greatest Hits Radio. I get up with Steve Wright on Radio 1, and I know he’s a bit marmite but I miss him in the afternoons now. Ken Bruce leaving is the nail in the coffin for me to make the jump!

Pyewhacket · 07/02/2023 01:48

Steve Allen on LBC on my way into work and Jeremy Kyle on TalkRadio on my home.
