What radio station(s) do you listen to?

Wondering what radio stations you listen to. Do you just keep it on in the background for some gentle noise or do you have it loud enough to hear everything and you pay attention most of the time?

If you listen to a non-UK station, what do you listen to and why? Do you tune in different stations depending on where you are (car/kitchen/bathroom/bedroom)?

I tend to listen to RTÉ Lyric FM in the car and Radio Nova (Dublin station) around the house. Looking to branch out and expand my listening horizons.

Radio 4 in the morning, until after lunch at the weekend. 6 Music while we're cooking or tidying up.

GilliansFarm · 06/02/2023 22:00

Original 106 Gold from Aberdeen.
No ads, no chat, just great tunes.
I'm abroad so listen on Alexa.

Depends on my mood and who else is around (not everyone will listen to country music!) but a variety of Absolute Country/80s/90s, Smooth Country, Kisstory, Radio X, Heart/Heart 80s, local radio for the football commentary

KarenColman · 06/02/2023 22:02

R3

No adverts. No traffic reports. Barely any news.

Though I’m a recent convert, after years of R2, 4 & 6.

WithCat · 06/02/2023 22:03

I’m currently in the process of keeping a survey for RAJAR. I listen to five live, LBC or local radio in the car as I don’t have digital in the car.

TheChosenTwo · 06/02/2023 22:07

Only ever listen to the radio if im in the car. Kiss if I’m in my little car (as it only has this and classical programmed in and I can’t be arsed to work out how to programme a car radio) or radio x if I’m in the big car. Never listen to the radio at home, we don’t actually even own a radio although you can a lot of the radio stations on the tv I think.

Tallulasdancingshoes · 06/02/2023 22:07

Virgin radio, usually just in the car but occasionally in the kitchen. I don’t have it in all day. I get overloaded and start to feel cross if it’s too noisy, I like it quiet.

TotteringByGenteely · 06/02/2023 22:10

Mainly Radio 4.
Occasionally Magic, Heart, BBC World Service and Classic FM.

verdantverdure · 06/02/2023 22:10

A bit of R4 here and there. If they allow the government representative to say things that are not true entirely unchallenged I tend to turn it off for a few weeks and put on a podcast, audiobook or music instead. I rarely listen to music radio.

I would like to listen to LBC but too many of the callers have been propagandised to the point that they have become wholly detached from reality.

TwilightSilhouette · 06/02/2023 22:11

UCB2. It’s wholesome and positive.

RenoDakota · 06/02/2023 22:11

Alternate between Radio 2, 4 and 6 depending who is on.
Saturday mornings on R2 are sacrosanct: Tony Blackburn, Dermot O'Leary, Claudia Winkelman.
Love Steve Lamacq on 6 Music late afternoons.
Love Desert Island Discs and Just a Minute. Generally go to Radio 4 when I can't stand the yabbering on the other channels and want something a bit calmer / more cerebral.

Xanadu58 · 06/02/2023 22:12

Radio 2
Absolute radio
Virgin radio
Local radio

Harrysutton · 06/02/2023 22:13

Smooth Country. It appalls the dc which makes it even sweeter

NashvilleQueen · 06/02/2023 22:14

A lot of radio 4
Never radio 2 (since Terry Wogan left)
I used to try the odd commercial radio station for music but I can't stand the ads so just use Spotify now when I'm done with R4/audiobooks

JellyKatty · 06/02/2023 22:18

Radio 5 Live during the day in the week (not for the sport)
Radio 4

PenelopeTitsDrop3121 · 06/02/2023 22:20

Lifeisdinky · 06/02/2023 22:37

leftoverwine · 06/02/2023 22:37

Mostly BBC stations, never watch BBC TV - but radio is amazing, I can handle TV ads, but not radio station ones, they just put me in a bad mood Sad

Allmyfavouritepeople · 06/02/2023 22:39

Glitterbeam radio online or BBC radio 2. I love BBC sounds for the documentaries

InBerlin · 06/02/2023 22:40

My most favourite thing in the world, Chris Skinner on Radio Norfolk every sunday 9.30-10. He talks about wildlife, his farm and Rats the dog. I look forward to it all week. Fascinating.

Bazinga007 · 06/02/2023 22:44

Planet Rock

watchingpullimgepisode6 · 06/02/2023 22:45

Planet Rock. All day.

Monkeytennis97 · 06/02/2023 22:46

LBC-James O'Brien and Iain Dale are my faves despite being politically opposite. I agree more with James but love Iain's voice and manner. Also love the For The Many podcast with Iain and Jacqui Smith.

Occasionally Classic FM or Radio 3.
