"Ah lightweight journalists out of their depth and only concerned with self image making a performance about lightweight politicians out of their depth and only concerned with self image."

Yes Grin

But I with my giant conspiracy theory hat on I'm concerned that we are being fed news via Tufton Street.

AdamRyan · 04/03/2023 17:13

My mother in law was in a nursing home with terminal cancer and died. 3 months with no visits from friends or family, her husband had to choose whether to stay isolated with her in her room indefinitely or whether to go home and not see her. He chose the latter.

When she died they couldn't have a funeral of more than 6.

At the same time "barnard castle" was going on.

I also can't forgive them. Disgusting.

DuncinToffee · 04/03/2023 17:20

Flowers for all who suffered badly during the pandemic.

@AdamRyan That is so awful. Some of the stories I've heard on here, and elsewhere are just heartbreaking.

I remember at the time, a poster on a thread talked about losing her sister and no one could go and see her for months, how close they were, and how it had affected her. I can't put into words the amount of sympathy I feel for all of you that went through this.

And hearing them mocking must bring it all back into sharp focus. Just so very very sad.

I'll not forget and I wasn't so closely and awfully affected like this. Goodness knows what all this is doing to you.

Notonthestairs · 04/03/2023 17:40

I'm not trying to give either the Government or Hancock a free pass. I just think a newspaper would be capable of matching up the messages to what was actually happening in the country at the time (numbers of infection, bed usage etc). They are ducking out of providing important context even though it would underscore the ridiculousness of Hancock faffing over his affair & Johnsons maths because they want to underplay the importance of the situation.

It shouldn't be down to individual medical staff & the bereaved to remind us what was at stake.

Or maybe I just despise Nelson & the Telegraph.

Chevyimpala67 · 04/03/2023 17:42

Thank you.

The sheer cold rage I feel towards these bastards frightens me.

They should be in prison. They should be held accountable for what they have done to the people of this country.

DuncinToffee · 04/03/2023 17:49

I didn't think you were. Oakeshott and the Telegraph have carefully selected which messages to publish and which not.
It's not journalism, it's sensationalism.

They've definitely got an angle. A right leaning newspaper who doesn't think the Government are right enough. I'm willing to bet they would still welcome Truss back in let alone Johnson.

Jason118 · 04/03/2023 18:56

I think some of the angle is to rewrite history to suggest no lockdowns were needed at all, which fits in with the vaccine conspiracy narrative.

Yes this is my worry.

Of course lockdowns weren't needed, which is why I continued to party through them. The reason we had to lockdown is because but Jeremy Corbyn didn't know what a woman was.

L1ttledrummergirl · 04/03/2023 20:03

@jgw1 , you forget, if Corbyn had known what a woman was, he would have been in charge and we would all still be in lockdown now. It would have been muchly more expensive than having Truss and Kwartang in charge for a few weeks, even though they cost the country billions and could have chosen to pay off the hospital pfi debt rather than fuck it up the wall.

Of course silly me.
And instead of lockdown but Jeremy Corbyn is now introducing low traffic neighbourhoods that will keep us locked in our homes. Does he not know that it is my right to live on a dangerously polluted street.

Notonthestairs · 04/03/2023 20:20

The Times long read suggesting that Johnson's position is strengthened by the weeks events. He's planning a hard push on the idea Sue Grey coerced him to attending all those parties and reusing Pannick's legal advice that the Privileges Committee have acted inappropriately by not acting like a court of law (overlooking that they are not in fact a court of law but an internal committee).
Its drivel but something the Mail etc will swing behind in the name of getting Dacre that seat in the Lords.

Notonthestairs · 04/03/2023 20:37

The Times also have an interestingly timed article on the impact of Lockdown on Children written from the perspective of an assistant headteacher, an academy head and a university lecturer, Matthew Goodwin.
I agree that the impact of lockdown on children needs to be considered & reviewed but I am far from convinced that Matthew Goodwin is coming from a neutral position.

Blossomtoes · 04/03/2023 23:49

I'm not particularly convinced that they've provided anything we didn't already know.

That’s true. The difference is that they’re condemning themselves from their own mouths/phones now. How many WhatsApp conversations do we reckon have been deleted in the last week?

Roussette · 05/03/2023 07:42

Here's the latest DT article with MHandcock wanting to 'scare the pants off' everyone.

Notonthestairs · 05/03/2023 08:44

Is it me or are they implying the Kent variant didn't exist?
No reference to the lack of staff for Nightingales.
You could almost read that article and assume everything in the health service was running perfectly.

"Chris Heaton-Harris, NI sec, tells @SophyRidgeSky he is 'absolutely convinced' Boris Johnson did not knowingly mislead Parliament

He says he's an 'honest man'

'I do not believe for one second Boris knowingly misled Parliament'

Is that now the official govt line??"

Nobody but nobody thinks Johnson is an honest man - that's why he was sacked three times.

borntobequiet · 05/03/2023 10:19

He says he's an 'honest man'

'I do not believe for one second Boris knowingly misled Parliament'

Delusional.

Roussette · 05/03/2023 10:31

I watched him being interviewed on Sky and bits on BBC. Chris Heaton-Harris can say that BJ is an honest man as often as he likes, history tells us different.

I am getting rather sick of the narrative of BJ whining nobody told him he'd broken lockdown guidance. Has he not got a brain in his head. Amazing that the great british public seemed to know what they could, and couldn't do. But he needs a nanny figure to tell him.

Piggywaspushed · 05/03/2023 10:37

he says he is an honest man

So did Iago.

pointythings · 05/03/2023 11:25

Apparently Brutus was also an honourable man...

BashirWithTheGoodBeard · 05/03/2023 11:47

If they're trying to come up with a defence strategy for Boris, I really think they'd be better presenting him as incompetent rather than honest. Even the people who like him don't tend to think he's someone always to be trusted.

I thought it was a breach of the ministerial code to lie to the public. Chris Heaton-Harris is lying to the public.
