Kemi Badenoch thinks menopause only affects Left Wing people

Quite the clash at the Women and Equalities Committee where Kemi Badenoch accused Carolyn Harris of "speaking from a left wing perspective" after calling for a pilot on menopause leave
twitter.com/AlexofBrown/status/1630958167856238596?t=ZtQxMuTsruREirJdbHbjtw&s=19

She's such a dick.

newnamethanks · 02/03/2023 10:26

What? The menopause is a socialist plot? No wonder I felt so bad. I should have known. It was all the fault of Jeremy Corbyn. Of course.

Chevyimpala67 · 02/03/2023 10:46

Well.
Who knew?
Internal organs can be left wing!?

the80sweregreat · 02/03/2023 10:52

Tory women don't have the menopause.. clearly
I don't wish Kemi ill, but maybe one day she will understand what it's like
It can be very debilitating

pointythings · 02/03/2023 11:00

The meno pause is a left wing plot - now my gob is fully smacked. I'm post menopausal and had a really easy menopause, but I've seen many of my friends really struggle.

Kemi Badenoch is an idiot.

Notonthestairs · 02/03/2023 11:04

6 out of 11 members of the Women and Equalities Committee are Conservative.
1 SNP and 4 Labour on the committee also.
The report and its proposals presumably involved the majority of members - so how can the report be left wing?

Had to laugh at Badenoch's description of herself as "centre right" - that is not where her party support comes from.

Chevyimpala67 · 02/03/2023 11:41

The best way to describe my peri menopause is "reverse puberty" and its been fucking GRIM

There isn't an area of my life it hasn't impacted

There is a huge cohort of intelligent, experienced and professional women who are being discriminated against on something they have no control over
It's not as easy as "just go on hrt" as we have seen in recent years.

Drug availability is a huge issue.
gps know so little about menopause.

And- like poor Nicola Bulley- some of us get really bad side effects and cannot take hrt.

So. We suffer on. Living half a life.

But corbyn...apparently.

Notonthestairs · 02/03/2023 11:55

The report sets out the cost to women and to business. Its very interesting.
committees.parliament.uk/publications/23281/documents/169819/default/

As well as the costs to women themselves (set out above), there are many other costs
of failing to support menopausal employees. These include the loss of talent,122 financial
costs to the individual employer, and costs to the wider economy. Oxford Economics
suggested that if a woman earning £25,000 a year leaves her job due to problematic
menopause symptoms, it will cost her employer over £30,500 to replace her.123 A survey
of 1,000 women by Health and Her estimated that menopause costs the UK economy 14
million working days per year, in terms of time spent alleviating menopause symptoms.
Over half the women surveyed worked extra to ‘compensate’ for the time lost.124

Worth also pointing out that many of the recommendations weren't considered too "lefty" and were accepted.
I rather suspect Badenoch was trying to garner a bit of attention with her phrasing.

Roussette · 02/03/2023 12:22

Oh god... I have just watched Baddenoch talking about the left wing menopause, followed by Peter Bone insisting that Brexit is a huge success because it stopped freedom of movement.
Someone help me please

"What is the agenda behind leaking this now? MH not even in government. I feel like it's a huge furry squirrel.....but why?"

I am wondering the same thing. Fraser Nelson/Spectator/Isabel Oakeshott/Richard Tice etc were all vehemently against Lockdown policies so I suppose it is a way to discredit the Government's decision making.
But why now? Especially since newspapers like the Telegraph sit on stories for months/years waiting for the right time.
A way to distract from Sunak's (so far successful) Windsor Agreement?
No idea.

Promotion of Matt Hancock?

borntobequiet · 02/03/2023 09:22

Cartwheels may be involved.

Be careful. A few years ago I decided to demonstrate how to do a cartwheel to my granddaughters (I used to be very good at cartwheels).
Unfortunately I forgot I was past 60.

I have never been any good at cartwheels, do I have time to learn before the election?

As long as one redefines the centre as being roughly where Nigel Farage is, then she is correct.

I think it is probaby Kemi's way of demonstrating that like Boris she knows what a woman is and really cares about them. Any right thinking women would of course vote for them because they know what a woman is, and exactly how they should be treated. Anyone who disagrees is wokey, and has been drinkering koolaid.

Roussette · 02/03/2023 12:32

Ok, I feel OK now. Because I am falling around laughing at this...

Well Johnson has emerged from the fridge with 'mixed feelings' about Sunak’s deal

It wasn't me....

FOR THE FIRST TIME, Johnson admits (albeit mumbled) the Protocol was his fault. But in this section of his speech, he tries a remarkable bait-and-switch. Apparently, he was forced into a bad deal by "the surrender act" (HOW, with a majority of 60?), and the EU misled him.

The EU are foreigners so it is bound to have been their fault.

Brilliant!
What an arse Hancock is. Handing all that information over to a "journalist" with form for not protecting her sources and known to be vurulently anti lockdown, antivaxx etc etc.

Maybe he thought he was going to get in her pants or something.
