Most daftly overpriced thing you've seen lately?

I've really fancied trying these Bueno eggs, finally saw them in Tesco and nearly collapsed in shock at the price. £2.75!! For a few tiny little eggs. I think not. The delights of the Bueno egg will remain a mystery to me.

What have you seen lately that's ridiculously overpriced? I know everything but maybe like the little treats you might have bought that are now so out of budget that you won't buy them even if you can afford too.

A lady selling a used pram for £1200 in total on Facebook marketplace. It was in good condition but the same pram in equally good condition was £200 and isn't selling either. Lol I wouldn't pay £1200 for a new pram let alone a second hand one

I think travel systems are a rip off. Devalue soooo quickly, most new parents want to buy new.

The price of compost has shot up as well. For HP brown sauce users, Branston sauce is really tasty and only 90p in Sainsburys.

A 4 pack of large-ish Yorkshire puddings we’re £2.25 in Co-Op yesterday! I opted for a 60p batter mix and made 12 of my own and were more yummy! Couldn’t believe it. I do normally make my own but thought a quick option would be ready made! Absolutely not

You do know that batter is only flour salt egg and milk? What do you add to the batter mix? Is it egg and milk?

A hotel room in Liverpool during Eurovision weekend. Over £22k!!!!!!!

Yikes! Maybe I should sort out my spare room and rent it out! We are only 10 minutes from the city centre

Azura decaf £6.10 , tin tuna £7, creme egg £1.

Bubbylana · 02/02/2023 08:27

John West tuna in spring water x4 £4. Now this may not sound too bad but in a few weeks its gone from £3 to £3.25 to £3.50 to £4. In Asda. Im sure they are taking the mick with all the hiking of prices.

£1.10 for a REDUCED dented tin of Heinz soup. £1.70 full
Price.

That gluten free bread is terrible. I'm sorry to read that as you're not awash with options there.

Iceland have an offer online at the moment - any 10 large Heinz tins for £7.

Wobblytrees · 02/02/2023 08:29

@seeyouinanotherlifewhenwearebothcats my husband makes own dough (think it’s a Jamie Oliver recipe) and makes a big batch and freezes in balls until needed. He makes own tomato sauce with tomatoes we grow and again, huge batches then freezes. We then just buy mozzarella and toppings - can do it fairly cheap, sweet corn, peppers (agsin, grown in garden, chopped and frozen), sausages. He did a wonderful fennel and goats cheese one once. We don’t even have a pizza stone, just a pizza tray (though he is going to build a pizza oven when weather gets better and will fire it with wood he’s chopped from trees which fell in storm). We get the kids to put their own toppings on which they love

Asdas. Pack of 4 chicken thighs. Organic and skinless for £17!!!!

That pricing is £17 per kilo. The pack size is going to be a lot smaller than that - around 300g may be . Still not cheap but not £17.

Helendegenerate · 02/02/2023 08:33

@goingtotown

I used to point out to the assistants any items which were cheaper new and not only in BHF charity shops although they seem to be the worst. I was always met with blank stares or mumbles of "oh not my job to do the pricing" so I don't bother now.

Many charity shops are now only stocking "vintage" which appeals to the students mainly and is such a rip off when you see the price tickets.

absolutelyincandescentwithrage · 02/02/2023 08:36

A fancy muesli, can't recall the brand for £7 in Booths. Also aghast at some of their frozen ready meals - £18 for a chicken and leek pie!

I love the Branston sauce too - also Branston baked beans tend to be a bit cheaper and they’re really nice.

12 Babybels ~ £3,55 . WHAT ?????

Spendonsend · 02/02/2023 08:43

I had a cup of tea which was £3.45. Just ordinary tea. I know staffing, fuel and materials have gone up but i was surprised. I cant really justify spending that on a cuppa.

Genius gluten free bread. £4.50 and its not even half the size of a normal loaf.

Yay for coeliacs 🙄

GF products have always been a rip off and not exactly delicious. If you can tolerate the potato flour, which is in EVERYTHING gluten free, it’s much cheaper to make your own bread, cookies, pizza bases. Loads of easy recipes online and on Doves’ website.
glutenfreecupoftea has a good Yorkshire pudding recipe made with cornflour instead of gf flour and they are a pleasure to eat. Her recipes are reliable but sweet lord that woman likes her sugar!

We once did a supermarket shop on a holiday in Turkey in the late 90s. They cost about £7!!! Which was more than everything else put together! We left them with the cashier.

Wow, sounds as though your husband is a great pizza chef. Having a chat with a family member yesterday - they starting making their own bread during the pandemic when people were panic buying it. They use a mixer with a dough hook and have always used the fast action dried yeast. They recently discovered BonneBouffe fresh yeast, sold on Amazon in boxes of 12 individually wrapped portions. Delivered overnight in chilled packaging and lasts about a month in the fridge. They say the bread is fab, although I’m still waiting for my sample !! They were also saying that they tried dough improver powder, also from Amazon - just a couple of teaspoons added to the dry ingredients and apparently makes the dough lighter.

Local bistro, fancy pie night. Base price looked OK compared to other things they sell, then you realise that everything is extra, including £2.50 for a slice of bread and butter.

Whiskers4 · 02/02/2023 08:52

Box of 12 Felix cat food pouches £5. Doesn't seem that long ago you could regularly buy two for £7.50. My two monkeys (putting it politely) came to us as rescues on it and I can't find anything else they'll stick with.

Tinktravels · 02/02/2023 08:53

I got quotes 450 per table at a wedding fair this weekend for table decorations. Though I could much add most the wedding things I've enquired about!

MaggieMagpie357 · 02/02/2023 08:54

@Livpool I would definitely look into it, there was a piece on the news about it earlier this week. Seems like you could make a fortune!!

Relaxd · 02/02/2023 08:56

Regular jar of Lloyd Grossm pasta sauce - often around a pound on regular offer, currently £3.50!!!

pam290358 · 02/02/2023 08:57

Our local hospital has a Costa coffee outlet in the foyer. Couple of months ago popped in for a cup of tea and popped straight out again for a bottle of water from the local shop !! £3.25 for a cup of tea !! The prices seem to be higher than high street outlets too because I checked online and a cup of tea is priced at £2.85. Still an absolute rip off for a cup of hot water and a tea bag !!
