Most daftly overpriced thing you've seen lately?

I've really fancied trying these Bueno eggs, finally saw them in Tesco and nearly collapsed in shock at the price. £2.75!! For a few tiny little eggs. I think not. The delights of the Bueno egg will remain a mystery to me.

What have you seen lately that's ridiculously overpriced? I know everything but maybe like the little treats you might have bought that are now so out of budget that you won't buy them even if you can afford too.

Genius gluten free bread. £4.50 and its not even half the size of a normal loaf.

Yay for coeliacs 🙄

Anything gluten free really.

I do without bread, pasta, anything fun like biscuits and cereal, frozen pizzas etc because we just can’t afford it.

Everyone thinks I am virtuous and healthy - I’m just broke!

Iwantabloodypizza · 02/02/2023 07:52

Hence my user name - have you seen the price of gluten free pizza? (And it’s soggy and shit).

faw2009 · 02/02/2023 07:55

Burger King almost £10 for a chicken burger. I didn't check if it was a meal because I just walked out. (I know it can be cheaper on the app, but still!).

MaryJean87 · 02/02/2023 07:55

£6 for 4 tins of the curry flavour Heinz beans. And they were on offer. Otherwise £1.80 a tin.

Fundays12 · 02/02/2023 07:58

A lady selling a used pram for £1200 in total on Facebook marketplace. It was in good condition but the same pram in equally good condition was £200 and isn't selling either. Lol I wouldn't pay £1200 for a new pram let alone a second hand one

RomansTheyGoTheHouse · 02/02/2023 07:58

There's loads but most recently was a simple bird platform feeder - basically a piece of wood with rope attached so you can hang it from the tree and a piece of slate over the top to keep it dry. £45!

A 2 pack of kitchen roll. £5.30!

Try Home Bargains if you have one near you. They do a two pack for somewhere around two pounds, I can't remember the exact price as I don't buy it anymore and no doubt it's gone up anyway, and it's good quality.

Mrstwiddle · 02/02/2023 07:59

@Nanof8 are you in Canada? If so, it's worth trying your local Walmart, large Cadbury bars there are between $5 and $6

BeeDavis · 02/02/2023 08:01

A 4 pack of large-ish Yorkshire puddings we’re £2.25 in Co-Op yesterday! I opted for a 60p batter mix and made 12 of my own and were more yummy! Couldn’t believe it. I do normally make my own but thought a quick option would be ready made! Absolutely not

absolutely everything

we make our own pizzas now - so much cheaper

I’m interested in starting this and involving the children. Do you make your own dough? Or buy bases and assemble yourself?

tulips27 · 02/02/2023 08:02

I needed one of those flexible 40 litre plastic tubs with handles that used to cost around four pounds: 20.99 in B&Q! 🤯

I didn't pay it, of course, and found one cheaper elsewhere but had to spend a long time looking to find one.

LookItsMeAgain · 02/02/2023 08:02

I was in my local Dunnes Stores (in Dublin) and needed toothpaste. Colgate Total Original - €7.50 for a 75ml tube!!! For toothpaste!!!! That you're putting in your mouth and spitting out in the sink.

I put it back and shopped elsewhere for my toothpaste.

MissMarplesbag · 02/02/2023 08:03

Weetabix box of 48 for £7!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lampzade · 02/02/2023 08:04

I am scared to look at my receipt when I go shopping.
The dcs have been warned that they can no longer waste food.
DS threw away a whole loaf of bread because it fell on the floor

We make our own - buying 4 from coop would be £28!
I make dough about 2 or 3 pm and it’s ready for 5 or 6. It’s easy to make by hand and it’s fun to knead, only 5 minutes.
we all put what we fancy on. Kitchen floor gets messy though! Maybe that’s just me.

I think what annoyed me more was it's huge, because it's see through seems very uncosy, and poor tot seemed to be abandoned in the middle of it without even a blanket! Plus what really pissed me off, is at the top of the cot they've put 2 full sized cushions. I don't care how tiny and immobile baby is, that's such a huge bloody no no. You only need them to fall over, and baby can't escape. 😢

The baby probably doesn’t sleep in there they just stick it in for photos

Echobelly · 02/02/2023 08:08

I agree @SirenSays - why are swimsuits so expensive? I look like a sack of spuds in all of them, so I don't want to spend £50 on the sodding thing.

The biggest ripoff I ever had was a plate of nachos in a west end cinema - £6 for about 8 nachos, which were flavourless and covered in a cheese sauce that smelt (and tasted, I suspect) like melted plastic.

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 02/02/2023 08:09

72 pack of weetabix. £8.10 in our local supermarket.

KangarooKenny · 02/02/2023 08:11

Petrol. One day last week it dropped by about 10p, next time I looked it was back up again.

MeinKraft · 02/02/2023 08:12

@seeyouinanotherlifewhenwearebothcats the Northern Dough Company does frozen dough balls that are really good, much better than the bases you buy off the shelf.

Oh and de Cecco spaghetti has doubled in price from around £1 to around £2. Get a cheaper brand- sure. But it's still an outrageous rise.

What would really help is if people who are more comfortable financially would take note and not buy things that have increased too much so retailers are forced to reduce the price, but I suppose that's won't happen.

Chooksnroses · 02/02/2023 08:13

I like to support small businesses when I can. I went to the hardware shop for a can of fly spray last summer. £9.99. Went next door to Waitrose instead, and bought the same thing for £2.99.

tulips27 · 02/02/2023 08:14

*that won't happen

Greenfairydust · 02/02/2023 08:14

Went with a friend to a London Italian wine bar. Cheapest glass of wine on drink list was £13 a glass. She ordered that and the glass that the waiter put in front of her wasn't even half-full...my orange juice was £4. The place wasn't heated properly either. Never again!
