Most daftly overpriced thing you've seen lately?

I've really fancied trying these Bueno eggs, finally saw them in Tesco and nearly collapsed in shock at the price. £2.75!! For a few tiny little eggs. I think not. The delights of the Bueno egg will remain a mystery to me.

What have you seen lately that's ridiculously overpriced? I know everything but maybe like the little treats you might have bought that are now so out of budget that you won't buy them even if you can afford too.

£20 for a small jellycat toy snail in a garden centre, very cute but not worth that.

£6 for a plain brown paper gift bag in paperchase, that shocked me

As people are now mentioning cheaper swaps, can anyone recommend an alternative to Nescafe Gold Blend decaf? I notice someone mentioned Colombia coffee upthread but I don't like it too strong, so any thoughts? Just popped into Waitrose (left with only one thing at £2 but got a free latte while there anyway!) and Goldblend there now £8! Hope if this thread reaches capacity someone can start a sequel! So interesting!

Gold Blend back on £5.50 Clubcard price at Tesco

@TashieWoo

Plain brown paper gift bags plus all the fancy pretty ones can be bought in Pound shops.

Paperchase can eff off!

Tesco English breakfast muffins were 50p now £1 the cheap grapes used to be 99p now £1.49 and bisto used to be around £4 for the big tub now £5.50! It is a good job i do my shopping online so people cant hear me saying 'fuckin hell' constantly as i do my shop 😂

Them kinder eggs are on clubcard offers £2.25

Oh thank you but I'm refusing to buy them out of principle now. And yes I complain loudly about the prices all the way round the shop. Luckily I usually have a small child with me so I can pretend I'm saying 'wow! £8 for vegetable oil!' To them when in fact I'm just loudly mithering about price hikes.

£1.09 for a 37G bar of caramilk in the Co op yesterday.
To put this into perspective, this same bar is 70p in Tesco and last summer, 10 for £1 in farmfoods.

If it is any help for the more mature members, Iceland has a 10% off day for pensioners, in return for a flash of your Freedom Pass. Fortunately, live within cycling distance of three Iceland shops, each of which has a different Granny Day.

Take care when shopping in Iceland. Philly cheese there was £3.25. I'm still reeling from that one....

Welcome. I go down the coffee aisle every time I go into a supermarket and stock up when it's cheap. I remembered your post while I was in Tesco.

we shall have to turn into the lookout thread. we post things we're looking for and if any of us see it somewhere we shout it out!😀

I was thinking something like that.

It's maybe an idea for an app, if anybody's capable of that.

Baxter's soups by the way - the normal ones like Cock-a-leekie and Scotch Broth.

£1 Clubcard price.

I still won't buy them when I can get perfectly nice Tesco own brand soups for 60p.

baxters classic ones are just so good. i used to feel i could have them in times of comfort you know. but now.nope. icannot pay those prices.its rediculous.and some soups i have to say do NOT cut the expensive versions. some do though some very much do.

A block of M&S Cornish cruncher cheese…£7.75….

247achybreakyheart · 09/02/2023 08:46

100% agree with this- I was in Asda yesterday and we’ve about13 Nieces & nephews between myself & hubby aswell as our own son so usually I just buy (what we’re decent sized before this year) all the kids a £1 egg each and a few for my son- but looking at the size of them yesterday for a higher price- I just thought away and f! Rotten gets doing that when they know rightly kids will be used to & be expecting the Easter bunny coming and they’re ripping the arse out of the prices! Not on! Disgusting 🤯😤😡🤬😤

That brand is particularly expensive but nearly £200 for a flipping mirror. What else does it do? Make you tea? Put your make up on for you???

It's WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY overpriced anyway for what it is.

Lurpack butter. £3.79. Kerrygold £2.39. Could I taste the difference? Nope.

Please say you bought the Kerrygold??? ☘

Everything in "Next", crazy prices lately!

The prices in Next in the Republic of Ireland are based on the UK prices so if they are going up in the UK, this means that we'll be paying more for the same item in the Rep. of Ireland.

I just wish that more French/Spanish/German fashion chains would open up in Ireland as since Brexit, so many UK chains have left.

medical prescription nearly £10
🤔

All due respect (and I'm sorry that you're ill and require a medical prescription at all) but come back to me when you have to pay for every medication up to a value of €80 per calendar month!

I'd take a £10 prescription charge.

Moxysright · 09/02/2023 09:45

House prices! I’d love to think if moving but between house prices and mortgage rates there is no chance! I heard on tv the other day while they think interest rates and cost of living will start to drop, they think the mortgage rates will continue to be high until 2028! Wtf!

I hear you loud a clear.

In my humble opinion everything is relative. £10 is either affordable, daftly over priced or unaffordable; individuals can take their pick. £80 is either affordable, daftly over priced or unaffordable again, individuals can take their pick.

I remember a time when the price was much less!

im not sure about the whether the size is smaller ive tried to find last years online but cant. but ceetainly the box is smaller on those small eggs. for what we paid £1 for last year. but the cheapest ive seen have been in lidl where there are aero, freddie, smarties, caramal and mini eggs smallest size for 1.25 if that helps.

PG Tips decaffeinated 70 bags, "standard" price was around £2.40, "offer" price (which was common) was around £2.00, now £3.95 in the Co-op! 😨
