I've really fancied trying these Bueno eggs, finally saw them in Tesco and nearly collapsed in shock at the price. £2.75!! For a few tiny little eggs. I think not. The delights of the Bueno egg will remain a mystery to me.

What have you seen lately that's ridiculously overpriced? I know everything but maybe like the little treats you might have bought that are now so out of budget that you won't buy them even if you can afford too.

I think that the difference between this week's and last week's shop has been the most shocking ng for me. Many items have leapt in price. I can't help but think it is profiteering. Take
butter for example. Own brand salted butter has gone up by 25 p on last week in Lidl and Tesco. In Lidl other brands weren't available. Unsalted butter is still £1.99 / £2.00. Salt can't make 25p difference and you also have to wonder why all the other brands had disappeared.

Same stick of butter cost 85p in 2019.

we were staying the same. someones got to be taking advantage here. becasue there is no need for some of these hikes and so often!
and im sorry they do not need to do this. they dont.
if one of these supermakrets kept their prices the same. even if it meant no profit for a year(still doubt even if they kept lowered price) they wouldnt be damaged at all i can gaurentee it.

Small tins of salmon £4 each! Barely enough for a sandwich

greenacrylicpaint · 03/02/2023 22:04

30€ for a bottle of olive oil at a market stall. somehow got confused with the bottle sizes and labelling.
it was organic and nice. but not that nice.

£84.99 for three packs of cat litter tray. According to one reviewer it was £47 less than two months ago

I balked at one Suckies yoghurt pouch costing £1... my DD wanted it for her packed lunch but I fobbed her off with a pack of 6 that cost only a little more.

Can get them for 60p on special at Tesco.

I need to get my kids into the spoon variety of yoghurts....

Has anyone noticed cheaper options have disappeared from supermarkets? I don't mean sold out, I mean removed. I used to buy bags of chicken thighs and freeze them. OK don't burn me, I confess they were for my JR. I cook them and they actually work out cheaper than dog food in cans and have none of the bulk that's added. Anyway, they've disappeared. The frozen bags are more expensive and have less meat.
I saw a small bag of kindling for £5.50 in Morrisons today. £3.50 for the same just down the road.

yup there was something on the news about this a few weeks back. they just cant afford to do many of the lines anymore

kateandme · 03/02/2023 22:21

Sour cream dip from McDonald’s
20p last week - 40p today !
100% increase !!

Also, £20 for 3 meals.

It’s flipping McDonalds !!!!

I do wonder if because so many busy people are doing an online shop now automatically putting x,y,z in their basket every week that an algorithm has calculated what to raise in price until the pips squeak.

We're back to grannies wicker shopping basket physically trotting around different shops to find the best deals . It's that or accept the potential price gouging.

Logicalreasoning · 03/02/2023 22:49

I spent £3.75 on bbq sauce (the small bottle) because I ran out for my hunters chicken and went to the co-op nearby. Nearly had a heart attack but it was the only one available... treating it like gold dust now

Lidl do too, but they are bulked out with those bitter bastards, aka walnuts.

I like ‘fruit and fibre’ type cereals but increasingly there are far too many chunks of dried banana chips in there, aka hard pieces of tooth-breaking palate-grazing tastelessness.

BogRollBOGOF · 03/02/2023 23:08

Can of Morrisons Irish Stew £3 yesterday!
£3 for a can of long life food.
That's dearer than a "fresh" ready meal.

That's doubled in the past year and jumped recently like everything else

littlbrowndog · 03/02/2023 19:27

Cat food. 16.70 for 40 pouches. I swear to god they were 12.00 just recently.

everywhere is selling them at that price. Is that price fixing ?

I definitely believe there's price fixing going on. However it's described as 'price matching' so as to appear lawful, as price fixing is illegal.

It wasn't in the window but I asked my local very reasonable butcher if he had a leg of lamb please. He popped into the store to grab one whilst I got a £20 note out of my purse, wondering if there'd be any change as I hadn't bought one for years and had no idea what they cost these days.

He weighed it, wrapped it and as he handed it over the counter I nearly fainted when he said that'll be £37.50 please.

Unfortunately the price of lamb has still not really come down since last years spring lamb prices. My husband has been a butcher for over 30 years and he said he’s never paid the price he’s been paying for lamb at this time of year. We’re running on really low margins for it and we always warn customers before we weigh it or offer to cut them a smaller piece and tell them they’re under no obligation to buy it as we understand how expensive it is.

Desperatetomotivate · 03/02/2023 23:18

This, a chicken for £22 in Sainsbury’s. I don’t care if it’s organic, it can GTF

Why is lamb so expensive now? I do love it, but really can't afford it these days.

DrNo007 · 03/02/2023 23:21

A milk bottle with the branding of our local organic farm for sale in a charity shop for £1.50. When you buy milk from the farm there is a 50p deposit on the bottle which you get back when you return it. So someone got milk from the farm, couldn’t be arsed to return the bottle but instead gave it to the charity shop and the charity shop made £1.50 out of it. Can’t quite work out why I think of this as a major piece of CF-ery by the milk buyer and the charity shop as the sums involved are small, but a piece of me is irrationally outraged by it.

I seem to remember from the various Brexit analysis arguments that we produce more lamb than the domestic market can consume but we produce less beef.

Beef is more reliant on cereal and fertiliser prices than lamb is.

Why the high lamb price then?

Had a bit of a chuckle about Paperchase earlier in the week - few years ago they allowed themselves to be bullied by left wing fascists like Owen Jones into withdrawing advertising from the DM (and I have no real regard for that particular rag)

As the saying goes "go woke, go broke"

Yawn.

Iseestupidpeople · 03/02/2023 23:29

ANYTHING in Poundland.

the only items actually costing £1 are the items cheaper than £1 everywhere else!

larkstar · 03/02/2023 23:32

Doritos £2.50 in ASDA - I only used to buy them when they were 99p - didn't look like I'll be eating any for a long time now - if ever.🙁
