I've really fancied trying these Bueno eggs, finally saw them in Tesco and nearly collapsed in shock at the price. £2.75!! For a few tiny little eggs. I think not. The delights of the Bueno egg will remain a mystery to me.

What have you seen lately that's ridiculously overpriced? I know everything but maybe like the little treats you might have bought that are now so out of budget that you won't buy them even if you can afford too.

Today. £2k for saggy second hand suite on Facebook. And local Tesco, £4.40 for ten fishfingers!

Charlie Bigham ready meals (I know), £9.

Had a bit of a chuckle about Paperchase earlier in the week - few years ago they allowed themselves to be bullied by left wing fascists like Owen Jones into withdrawing advertising from the DM (and I have no real regard for that particular rag)

As the saying goes "go woke, go broke"

"Go woke go broke"......im literally cringing

A wedding barn outside Edinburgh which is £11,000 with only Portaloos. If you don’t use their bar services it’s an extra £1,000 corkage (don’t mind this so much as there should be a penalty for not using their bar staff etc). There are further penalties for not using their caterers again not unreasonable. It’s the barn hire that is ridiculous

£35 for a water bottle with a smelly cap!!!

Lightbulb on Amazon £4, perfectly reasonably priced you might be thinking. The P&P was £36 😱 I nearly didn’t notice.

sodabreadjam · 03/02/2023 18:46

Single tin of Heinz Baked Beans with sausages - £2. Asda. I think they are horrible but the GCs like them.

Jar of Loyd Grossman pasta sauce - £4 in Asda. Regular jar, not large jar.

2 X10 sachet packs of Quaker Oat So Simple - £7 generously reduced to £5! I remember when they were £4 for 2 reduced to £3. You can still get a big bag of porridge oats for around a £1. Really grudge paying for flavoured porridge but adult DS likes them when he comes to stay.

Picoloangel · 03/02/2023 18:50

A bag of mixed nuts for £12. £12!!!!!!

CountryMouse22 · 03/02/2023 18:50

I think there's an awful lot of profiteering going on. Greedy supermarkets.

I got 2 drinks in the pub last night. £25.50. A large house white and a G&T. I nearly fell on my arse.

So next time we see statistics on how many pubs have had to close their doors, we know why. That’s just not affordable.

Aldi sell them for £1.69 and they don't bulk out with Brazil nuts, so double bonus!

Their chicken korma used to be about £5.50 when we discovered it. It's delicious but I will no longer pay that mad price.

My daughter is autistic and will only eat the Heinz variations of tinned food, so tomato soup, pasta shapes and bolognese 😩 she is home schooled so has these as easy lunches, easily amounts to £10 per week just on Heinz.

Save the tins and transfer the contents, see if she notices, Sainsbury's are just as good . I did this with Rice Crispies, tipped Asda's in the 'real' box, nobody noticed

Pliudev · 03/02/2023 18:54

Has anyone noticed cheaper options have disappeared from supermarkets? I don't mean sold out, I mean removed. I used to buy bags of chicken thighs and freeze them. OK don't burn me, I confess they were for my JR. I cook them and they actually work out cheaper than dog food in cans and have none of the bulk that's added. Anyway, they've disappeared. The frozen bags are more expensive and have less meat.
I saw a small bag of kindling for £5.50 in Morrisons today. £3.50 for the same just down the road.

We wanted to hire a venue for a summer party. A local fishing lake has a cafe with a big pergola thing, which can be rented out. Very very basic, but thought it would be nice if we stuck up some fairy lights and maybe hired a big pizza oven. It’s pretty much a blank canvas at night since the cafe thing is shut so I assumed maybe a few hundred quid. £6k. £6k to sit under a big wooden roof thing with nothing else included. Also you had to have bouncers, who they provide for an extra fee, even though it’s a campsite in the middle of nowhere.

I buy those flavoured Quakers for DP. Tesco have changed their pricing on the 2-for-1 (10 sachet boxes) to £5 the pair. But the big bulk box of 20 golden syrup sachets is still £4 (for now!), I just don't get diff flavours anymore, boo.

If you can shop it online there's currently also a code for £3 off £10 spend that applies to the big box, could stock up.

One church that I attended was part of a group with clothes donation and then sold at minimal prices in that case for refugees. Maximum a couple of items to stop desperate/unscrupulous taking loads and selling on. The idea was as you you say good price clothing.

Most charity shops the aim is to make profit to plough into the charity work. The aim of charities funding health or disability or animal welfare isn’t to help vulnerable people. I think even others want that money and then distribute to families. I don’t know what’s best.

But surely quicker turnover and not asking for the same/more for a pre lived item is better? It winds me up when I see them asking £5/6 for a primark top I just think who’s going to buy that?

I was scrolling the internet for a new waste paper bin the other day and this came up.

https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/decorative-objects/bowls-baskets/scandinavian-wastepaper-basket/id-f_965568/?&currency=gbp

It's nice and all but more than £2500 for something to throw your rubbish inConfusedConfusedConfused. I know there's people with more money than sense but honestly?

I'll be off to Wilko to get one for 4 quid.

Followed the link and the website has an option to "ask a question about this piece" - so tempted to ask, "what the actual fuck?"

NeverDropYourMooncup · 03/02/2023 19:03

Gluten free bread. I swear I recoiled with a hissing noise when I saw Warburtons GF Tiger loaf in Sainsbury's Local for £4.50. Four fucking pounds and fifty fucking pence.

Fucking bastards - it's not like I'm doing this for shits and giggles.

But hey, you 'can get GF food from any supermarket now, so the NHS is not going to fund it anymore'. No. They saw a potential way of flogging stuff to the Wellness/Clean Eating/Orthorexia market until they noticed the fashion change and there was more mileage in flogging vegan shit (mostly infested with fucking gluten, by the way).

Cinema tickets. We wanted to take our son to see Avatar when it was first released. He loves 3D films. (He’s 21 so an adult, but he has special needs). It was £48 for three adults. We couldn’t afford to go.

fetchacloth · 03/02/2023 19:10

Whiskas and Felix cat food pouches - a box of 12 of either brand £4.50 in Tescos😮
A year ago were £3.00 a box.
That's why I call price gouging.
