Most daftly overpriced thing you've seen lately?

I've really fancied trying these Bueno eggs, finally saw them in Tesco and nearly collapsed in shock at the price. £2.75!! For a few tiny little eggs. I think not. The delights of the Bueno egg will remain a mystery to me.

What have you seen lately that's ridiculously overpriced? I know everything but maybe like the little treats you might have bought that are now so out of budget that you won't buy them even if you can afford too.

I worked as QC for a food manufacturer and M&S ingredients were sourced separately and treated differently to other brands, they also had their own QC in on a regular basis

Yep, when I was a student a friend worked in a chicken factory in the holidays. He said that they’d be packing chicken for a cheap range and then it’d be “stop” and the packaging would be changed for a high end range. All the same chicken.

I always think kitchen roll is a waste of money. Why not just buy a pack of dish cloths and stick them in with the daily wash? Much better for the environment too

But can you use them when you’re cooking and need to remove excess water from poached eggs for eg.

M&S had their own ingredients sourced from different places, they were not the same, a lot of the other brands were similar but not M&S, they were treated as something special and separately and the ingredients were not mixed with other brands

I usually bulk buy when stuff is on offer or on a deal from Amazon, Toilet rolls were on offer the other week so I bought 2 packs of 24, then I needn't think about getting them for a few weeks or months

We saw this in Tesco today and were shocked, hence taking the photo!!

To be fair, though, even when they are put on the right shelf, chocolate oranges are daftly overpriced for most of the year, except in the run-up to Christmas, when they're £1, which seems about fair. Same with Schloer.

This is obviously the on the wrong shelf.

A 2 pack of kitchen roll. £5.30!

Buffalo from Quality Save/Home Bargains is £2.79 for 3 rolls and it’s exactly the same as the massively expensive (but very good) Regina Blitz.

staciea31 · 03/02/2023 07:26

Getting my pup groomed was £30 last month now went up to £45 for exactly the same thing , mammy best get the scissors and shampoo ready for a home pamper instead of going to the doggy parlour 🤣

Over £18 each for a cinema ticket. We walked out, went home and watched TV instead. Also Asda 5x apricot tiny snack bags £2.50.

It's much cheaper to rent the latest movies from Sky Cinema/Apple/Amazon Prime - £15.99 for the movie for any number of people plus you can use your own toilet, provide much cheaper snacks and pause the movie when toilet breaks are needed. Haven't been to the cinema since lockdown.

Ah fair enough. I have always thought M&S chicken is less rubbery! However, it’s now £11 for 4 breasts which is a lot!

Molkomad · 03/02/2023 08:13

£18 for an average burger and chips at the Cbeebies Hotel at Alton Towers. Also at the same place; £20 for a G&T, pint of beer and two kids lemonades.....I wanted to ask if I'd been charged wrong but knew it was likely to be correct!!

tigerbear · 03/02/2023 08:21

10 nights in Mallorca with Jet2 - the CHEAPEST price for 4 of us was £6.5k in a bog standard villa.
Going up to £12.5k for what looked like another distinctly average resort.
this is the sort of money I’d spend on a special trip or honeymoon, not our summer holiday with 2 children!

Leftbutcameback · 03/02/2023 08:53

So if these prices have gone up so much (which I believe), and so has energy, the only thing I know that’s gone down recently is petrol. If inflation is 10% there must be things in that measure which have fallen in price to get to that average. Any ideas?

Aha, that's it! I mentioned it further up the thread but couldn't remember the name/price.

Lidl cheese was £3.99 a year ago now £5.50, Morrisons cat food £7.50 last year £11.50

Pigtailsandall · 03/02/2023 09:43

I got 2 drinks in the pub last night. £25.50. A large house white and a G&T. I nearly fell on my arse.

DD gives me a talking to before we reach the tills, as I have been known to huff, puff and comment embarrassingly loud at the rising cost of everything.

Wobblytrees · 03/02/2023 12:15

Just been to shop. £4.37 for a pack of 12 Pom bear. WTAF?! I bought hula hoops instead (on offer) - don’t want kids having full bag of those re salt but they can share.

Also almost £5 for a bottle of ketchup. I just refuse to pay these prices - they seem to be increasing exponentially each week and surely the supermarkets are making humungous profits as people are cooking at home more?!

9.80 for a 24 pack bog roll.

I honestly don’t know how one of my family members can be coping with these increases

Oh frigging hell - looking at taking the kids there later this year. Am gonna have to start offering their labour on neighbouring land(!)

There was actually an undercover report done by ITV & The Guardian showed this is not true. Google Two sisters undercover report and you’ll find the same chicken is used for Lidl, M&S and more. It’s pretty shocking what they are uncovered.

GinBlossom94 · 03/02/2023 13:15

@thebutcherswife I have family who worked for two sisters, I said about the chicken being the same further up thread, they were an awful company to work for

They strike me as a horrible company to work for, you can’t get that rich by being nice x

Two sisters in Anglesey is closing. Lots of jobs lost. Awful company

emmathedilemma · 03/02/2023 16:01

Cucumbers were 69p last week, 75p this week in Aldi. I'm sure not that long ago they were 49p!
