I've really fancied trying these Bueno eggs, finally saw them in Tesco and nearly collapsed in shock at the price. £2.75!! For a few tiny little eggs. I think not. The delights of the Bueno egg will remain a mystery to me.

What have you seen lately that's ridiculously overpriced? I know everything but maybe like the little treats you might have bought that are now so out of budget that you won't buy them even if you can afford too.

Overpriced second hand boden, frugi etc kids clothes on Vinted.

Not thanks, you can keep your kids £15 stained jumper with a hole in it!

To be fair, Frugi is organic cotton and extremely good quality and therefore hold their value

Tretchikoff · 02/02/2023 17:54

@emmathedilemma
That house is the old Janitors cottage for Flora Stevenson Primary hence the closeness to the school.
It went on fire a while ago and it looks like it's been done up in a v modern way which I don't think goes with the exterior.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 02/02/2023 18:17

@SchoolTripDrama agree, it's good stuff. It's just when it's clearly been very well worn and listed as good condition along with a hefty price tag that jt irritates me!

emmathedilemma · 02/02/2023 18:18

@Tretchikoff headmasters house according to the blurb! I’m not a fan of the interior at all. I guess your kids would never be late for school though 😂

Poppedmytyreffs · 02/02/2023 18:27

Lemon slices (6 pack) used to be £1.25-£1.50 now £2.50 at asda. Saw them in the co-op for £1.50, will be buying them there!

Sparkleshine21 · 02/02/2023 18:36

@SchoolTripDrama painful isn’t it 😩😩 we need a tried and tested Heinz dupes thread!!

One of the small 100g toblarone bars in the card factory for £5 ! It was on a shelf with other items that had £1 on the ticket price underneath so just assumed it was took that straight off when I heard the price
I can buy a full sized one for less !

The Works had those £1 Cadbury 'large' bars with personalized names on them last year, and they were going for nearly £5 too... just a wrapper with a name on it!

SilentHedges · 02/02/2023 18:44

I haven't received the quote by email yet, but when I do, my answer is "the new carpets I need to buy" 😐

HistoryFanatic · 02/02/2023 13:36

Where are all the cheap packet noodles? I can't seem to find them very often now. Occasionally a quick lunch idea if can't be bothered with other things!

Tesco world food/Asian aisle, but can sometimes also be found in Spars and B&Ms: Koka or Nissin Demae Ramen brands. About 55-65p and (imo) tastier than british brands. Used to be 25-30p though 😭

SilentHedges · 02/02/2023 18:46

Clawdy · 02/02/2023 15:11

Florentine biscuits, quite small,in our local baker shop yesterday, £2.50 each. To be fair, the assistant told me the price when she saw me picking up two. Needless to say, didn't buy them!

@Clawdy It's coming to something when the Shop Assistant knows to warn people upfront about the price of 2 biscuits 😂

They did. 😪 60p seems expensive.

I know it's grotty and I shouldn't eat it anyway but Heinz tinned ravioli is now £2 a tin. I actually gasped out loud when I saw that.

The price of my dog's food has also increased by 27% in one month.

@HistoryFanatic There was a shortage of Super Noodles for a while and I couldn't get them anywhere. I always have a stock of beef flavoured ones but they're 80p a pack now.

They are a £1 in our local Heron's.

Sparkleshine21 · 02/02/2023 18:55

@Wetblanket78 saw some this eve in aldi for 1.15 a box, there were only a few left, unsurprisingly

SatInMySpottyOnesie · 02/02/2023 19:23

Very interesting (albeit alarming 😳) thread.
I live in Spain, the local facey groups are up in arms about the recent price hike of Heinz Baked Beans from €1.10 to €1.75 🥴(nothing much happens 😂)
While prices have gone up it’s certainly not by some of the insane amounts I’ve seen here 😳
Happy to suck it up when 1 large beer, 1 small beer and a huge glass of wine comes to €5.50 😬🤷🏼‍♀️(recent Christmas receipt)

Speaking of dog food, my DDogs like the James Wellbeloved superfood dried food - a 10kg back used to be £40ish but just checked and it’s £52 via Zooplus, which is usually the cheapest 🤬

Iwantabloodypizza · 02/02/2023 19:29

Me and dh were taking about this earlier.

When he moved in with me and then 8 year old ds in 2011, our weekly shop in tesco for the three of us, plus 2 cars (so value car litter and tesco cat food) was £40

We ate the same as we do now, roast chicken dinners, Shepard's pie, spaghetti bolognaise, jacket potatoes, chilli, curry - everything from scratch, plus things for ds school packed lunch.

We used to have to be careful and used mostly value range things, but £40 wouldn’t cover even half of that now.

2 Cats! Not cars.

This whole thread is scaring me -
Since my husband retired he has been in charge of the supermarket shop - I had no idea prices were this high - seems crazy.

Marmite!! Bloody marmite £4!!!!

Worth every penny, I always get the big jar for £5.85

Charged £5 for a scotch egg at a farmer’s market once. Only realised it was that much after checking the receipt.

Flamingle18 · 02/02/2023 19:44

Everywhere else is between £1.34 - £1.51!

4 damaged beyond use (handles broken, bigcracks) teacups in a charity shop for £48 because they're vintage. For a full set of 6 with saucers on ebay was £20

Apologies for scaring you. Forewarned is forearmed though, you can make some changes if you know. We are eating more vegetarian stuff and much less meat.

Maybe, not in keeping with the rest of the thread…

Sensate: it is a vibration device that sits on your chest and vibrates in time with relaxing sounds. It cost £300…it is shite! I was a stupid sucker who in an intensely stressful situation succumbed to the advert.

An incredibly overpriced vibrator which made me more stressed with it’s counterproductive rumble.

In other news, KTC tins of pulses and beans were 4@£1, now double the price 4@£2

A shopping virgin then. He'll catch on as mine did, he picked up his coffee in Tesco yesterday £6. Huffed and trotted off to Aldi. Bought their Costa coffee. I made him a cuppa last night. He said it was bitter.

Cast your eyes over the receipt. Newbie shoppers have no point of reference as to price rises to be fair
