Most daftly overpriced thing you've seen lately?

I've really fancied trying these Bueno eggs, finally saw them in Tesco and nearly collapsed in shock at the price. £2.75!! For a few tiny little eggs. I think not. The delights of the Bueno egg will remain a mystery to me.

What have you seen lately that's ridiculously overpriced? I know everything but maybe like the little treats you might have bought that are now so out of budget that you won't buy them even if you can afford too.

Charlie Bingham meals have gone up to £9.50. Massive increase seeing as they were £6.50 previously. We sent £220 on shopping In Sainsbury’s the other day and it was just one big trolley’s worth. I’m sure last year it would have been under £200. There wasn’t anything particularly fancy tbh. Hoping it’ll last 3 weeks but it’ll probably be two.

Don’t forget ‘shrink-flation’ as well. Whilst you can still 4 toffee crisps for £1 in a multipack, those things are tiny. We also used the old El Paso fajita kit yesterday and I’m convinced the fajitas are smaller. Yet, of course, the price has gone up. It’s similar with so many products.

You're right, the tortillas are 100% without a doubt smaller. They used to be "normal" wrap sized, now they are mini wrap sized

Sweet potato lasagne was 88p in Asda a few weeks ago it’s now 3.00

i find a lot of M&S stuff quite reasonable not all but some

They have 3 chicken legs for £1.20 and 500g mince for £1.80 which is so reasonable! I went in to aldi and brought fruit and veg and then m and s and brought meat! Didn't think I'd ever do that!

See I have a real problem with the pricing in charity shops.
I have given some really lovely stuff to charity shops hoping that people who are struggling are able to buy good quality clothing at cheap prices.
The thought that these prices are prohibitive
to many is irksome.

One church that I attended was part of a group with clothes donation and then sold at minimal prices in that case for refugees. Maximum a couple of items to stop desperate/unscrupulous taking loads and selling on. The idea was as you you say good price clothing.

Most charity shops the aim is to make profit to plough into the charity work. The aim of charities funding health or disability or animal welfare isn’t to help vulnerable people. I think even others want that money and then distribute to families. I don’t know what’s best.

I know it's grotty and I shouldn't eat it anyway but Heinz tinned ravioli is now £2 a tin. I actually gasped out loud when I saw that.

The price of my dog's food has also increased by 27% in one month.

@HistoryFanatic There was a shortage of Super Noodles for a while and I couldn't get them anywhere. I always have a stock of beef flavoured ones but they're 80p a pack now.

Tesco have put the price of Super Noodles up (again) and they're now £1

Where are all the cheap packet noodles? I can't seem to find them very often now. Occasionally a quick lunch idea if can't be bothered with other things!

Tesco Polish food section - Vifon Zloty golden chicken noodles. 60p a pack for 70g and really nice.

I know we tend to romanticise things we had in childhood, but does anyone remember the original curly wurly ? They were huge compared to the tiny offerings these days.

LakieLady · 02/02/2023 14:07

turrrniiipz · 02/02/2023 01:41

!!!

Currently on offer in Waitrose for £4.

Moonlightsonatas · 02/02/2023 14:11

I stopped buying the Old El Paso kits as it’s cheaper to buy a packet of the spice powder and separate tortillas.

Regular jar of Lloyd Grossm pasta sauce - often around a pound on regular offer, currently £3.50!!!

Yes, this! Asda was selling them for £1.25 for a few weeks, now they have shot up tp £3! Made by Premier foods who also own Sharwoods curry sauces - they are now £3 a jar as well! I am now boycotting all of their brands.

organisedmother · 02/02/2023 14:18

Babycino! In my local coffee shop £1.25 for a shot of frothy milk 🤨

nopuppiesallowed · 02/02/2023 14:18

Another very cross coeliac here... If you ask Tesco why gf food is so expensive, they say we're a niche market, but there are thousands and thousands of us (as many 1 in 100). I'm sick of paying huge amounts of money for tiny loaves of bread 🤨

Useitorloseit · 02/02/2023 14:19

A single kitchen roll for £2.50 in the coop, it was half the thickness of the one I get in tesco for £1.09!

Odiebay · 02/02/2023 14:27

Went in to get my low calorie treat crisps in the coop. Popchips single bag were 95p now 1.10 and their bigger bag was 1.85 now 2.15 😩 won't be buying them anymore. You don't even get that many in a pack!

WHAT!!!!!

Has he not heard of the 5 second rule?????

Used to be the 3 seconds rule but now 5 seconds due to “inflation” Grin

Crikeyalmighty · 02/02/2023 14:35

Hotel rooms on Friday or Saturday in any major city - nearly always around £200 plus - even for very average places, premier inns, holiday inn etc

Moonlightsonatas · 02/02/2023 13:26

My local charity shops always seem to have these first editions for sale for crazy money too.

I recently bought a first edition of a book (not HP) in a charity shop for £1.75. Looked like it would be relatively rare. Selling for £40 on an antiquarian bookshop website. I’m keeping it in the hope it will increase further (I do collect first editions anyway - idea being they might increase enough to help my kids in the future)

Everyonehasavoice · 02/02/2023 14:42

Wow
During the pandemic we did click and collect from Aldi
Our previous purchase history is still in our account
Last years food shop compared to this years is a 30% increase

Would be interesting to know if anyone can do the same for any other shops

VeronicaFranklin · 02/02/2023 14:45

Most branded cereals are now £4 in Tesco and Sainsbury's for a 500g box.

Madness when you can buy a supermarkets own brand for much cheaper.

Makes you wonder how many of these brands that have put their prices up extortionately will cease to exist in the coming months as they have priced themselves out of the market!

Zebracat · 02/02/2023 14:46

A 1 metre apple charging cable, minus plug for£19.00.
