I've really fancied trying these Bueno eggs, finally saw them in Tesco and nearly collapsed in shock at the price. £2.75!! For a few tiny little eggs. I think not. The delights of the Bueno egg will remain a mystery to me.

What have you seen lately that's ridiculously overpriced? I know everything but maybe like the little treats you might have bought that are now so out of budget that you won't buy them even if you can afford too.

Easy homemade pizza dough if anyone is interested

500g pizza flour (00)
320ml warm water
10g fresh yeast ( we buy in supermarket for 20p for 50g)
1tsp salt
1/2 tsp sugar

Mix yeast and sugar with the warm water. Add to flour. Mix well until dough forming. Add salt.
knead 10 mins
leave to rise in bowl with wet tea towel ontop for 2-3 hours. You can keep the dough in Tupperware in the fridge for up to a week. Ie we often make Sunday afternoon and then use midweek for quick dinner.

Thats enough for 2-4 large pizzas ( depending on tray size and thickness).

2 year old makes the dough with me and likes kneading, I just give him a small part to knead himself, then add back into mix.

Mainland Eu here. Lots of very expensive now. Looking at €4 for bread, €2 cucumber, €2 for 2 pints milk

Heinz Salad Cream for £3.25 in Lidl

Ended up buying Morrisons own brand for 35p.

Vodkaskirts · 02/02/2023 12:39

And agree that the cheap supermarkets seem to be hiking at a faster rate than Waitrose and M&S.

Waitrose is my local shop and I used to travel to Lidl/Aldi but when I'm being lazy I go to Waitrose and I've found it's not as expensive as expected, I always look for the offers and there's always loads with reduced stickers.

Lidl/Aldi aren't as cheap as they used to be.

pigsinoodies · 02/02/2023 12:42

@Caspianberg just to satisfy my curiosity is milk really sold in pints in mainland EU?

Caspianberg · 02/02/2023 12:44

@pigsinoodies - no sorry. It’s in litres. So 1litre cartons usually ( just under 2 pints).

Maiyakat · 02/02/2023 12:45

Oxfam would like to sell you the final three Harry Potter books for £250 on the grounds they are first editions, think someone needs to tell them how many of these first editions were printed! onlineshop.oxfam.org.uk/harry-potter-first-editions-of-the-last-three-books-in-the-series/product/HD_301296578?sku=HD_301296578

Marmalade in the King's shop in Tetbury. (used to be Prince Charles)

Ten years ago it was £7.95 for a small jar. Mine went off really quickly too, and I wrote and complained to the then-Prince Charles - and he didn't reply!

2 euros a litre then? That's more expensive than it is here.

You used to be able to get free returns with most online orders but now more retailers are charging for returns. Similarly, Marks and Spencers used to offer free delivery on orders over £50 now it's up to orders over £60!

Showdogworkingdog · 02/02/2023 12:52

Multipacks of chocolate bars. Creeping towards £2 for a pack of four what used to be called funsize bars. I’m not bragging or anything but I can see off a multipack crunchie in one mouthful.

justasking111 · 02/02/2023 12:54

If you really want to know how supermarkets are doing check share data. Then read the articles on supply chains. It's a nightmare because we're used to our goods coming long distance to us

xogossipgirlxo · 02/02/2023 12:54

Frozen pizzas if not own brand. Chicago town four cheese is 5 quid now.

Genius gluten free bread. £4.50 and its not even half the size of a normal loaf.

Yay for coeliacs 🙄

God yes! I only ever buy branded gf bread when reduced (and even then it’s not much) or Morrison bread rolls. But they have gone up from 99p to 1.50.
someone posted on fb about mcdougalls cornflour costing 5 quid for a little tub.

justasking111 · 02/02/2023 13:05

Cornflour is much cheaper on Amazon as are many other items. Higher volume helps

HerRoyalNotness · 02/02/2023 13:07

One passion fruit for US$7. They’re normally $5 and I buy a few each season (taste of home) but a $2 increase?! Nah I still will. Still crazy prices

justasking111 · 02/02/2023 13:07

We're reverting to when granny picked up her basket and shopped around. Online orders you're pretty much stuffed

MerylSqueak · 02/02/2023 13:10

@Uninterestedfamily I would love to know where you got that beef from!

Everyonehasavoice · 02/02/2023 13:17

Houses….All of them…..unless they’re missing a roof of course😆

Wetblanket78 · 02/02/2023 13:20

Not a treat but but a basic for home cooking. £4.50 for a box of cornflour in Asda. I usually buy it in B&M or home bargains. But had forgot to pick some up.

Starburst8 · 02/02/2023 13:22

The cost of everything has gotten ridiculous recently. I had to double look at the price of coffee nearly £7/£8 for a jar! I thought £4 was bad enough 🤔

My local charity shops always seem to have these first editions for sale for crazy money too.

@pam290358 I've just seen on itv news:

'British Gas has announced it will stop applying for court warrants to enter customers’ homes and fit prepayment meters, following reports they had been forced on "vulnerable" customers.'

Funny how, yet again, it takes an undercover reporter to expose things like this isn’t it ? BG claimed they weren’t aware of the company’s methods - maybe if they actually did a bit of research instead of going for the cheapest tender they might do a bit better. Some of the footage was really distressing, and the attitudes of the bailiffs was shocking. I also had the impression that BG were leaving it up to the company to decide who they consider vulnerable. They should have a good idea themselves, otherwise what’s the point of them asking vulnerable customers to make themselves known.

Not so much - this one’s up for $820k Australian !!

HistoryFanatic · 02/02/2023 13:36

Where are all the cheap packet noodles? I can't seem to find them very often now. Occasionally a quick lunch idea if can't be bothered with other things!
