I've really fancied trying these Bueno eggs, finally saw them in Tesco and nearly collapsed in shock at the price. £2.75!! For a few tiny little eggs. I think not. The delights of the Bueno egg will remain a mystery to me.

What have you seen lately that's ridiculously overpriced? I know everything but maybe like the little treats you might have bought that are now so out of budget that you won't buy them even if you can afford too.

Breed kittens for £1200+

The table lamp I was selling on Marketplace. Listed it for £1000 instead of £10.00. Got lots of interest once I realised, two weeks later!

Wow that bread sounds great! Might get him on the case! Yes, he’s become pretty proficient. We used to eat out regularly/pay £22 for 2 pizzas from takeaway and now our own costs a fraction and is just as good.

Tell him not to be tempted by the so called speciality bread flours sold on Amazon (Italian, french etc) because my relative said they tried them and the results are no better than with the bread flours available in supermarkets. I’ve just asked about the dough improver for you and it’s called Harry Harvey premium all purpose bread improver. It’s in a green pack. I’m thinking of having a go myself now - craving toast so off to the kitchen !!

This is ridiculous. I have a colony of feral cats out the back of my house that I'm having to trap and neuter because some arsehole didn't bother spaying their pet cat. They aren't suitable to be homed but they're just as lovely as any pedigree cat and they're worthless. I despair of attitudes to animals.

Nutella - could buy it for £2 or £2.50 - now £3.20 - I buy supermarkets own brand spread £1.70 - son said no difference in taste.
These supermarkets and others are blaming the war in Ukraine/brexit - some of it is just pure greed.

John West tuna in spring water x4 £4. Now this may not sound too bad but in a few weeks its gone from £3 to £3.25 to £3.50 to £4. In Asda. Im sure they are taking the mick with all the hiking of prices.

Those small flat tins used to be 200g, then they dropped to 150g, then 120g and they are now 110g.

Primula cheese spread tube. Was £1 then £1.50 and not a whopping £2 at asda.
Its a tiny tube. 2 squirts and it's over!

This has totally shocked me! I know it was 25 years ago, but I travelled for months in Thailand on £10 a day- this included somewhere to sleep, food (3 times a day) and some beers. Like seriously. Travel around the country was also cheap as chips. I'm actually reeling at this.

In October last year a pint of Guinness in Dublin was the equivalent of £7.50 and at the airport it was £11. Bonkers.

The 6 packs of Mr Kipling fruit pies used to be around £1.25, often on offer for around £1 if you were lucky.
£2.60 now! I work on a checkout and l did a double take when l scanned them. I thought it was a mistake. Checked on the shelf when l was shopping.... no. £2.60. .

Those looking for swimming costumes might check out Decathlon. Not necessarily the most stylish but at least the prices are lower than some.

Dinosaurpoopy · 02/02/2023 10:16

We bought some paint for the nursery the other day- £55 for standard paint??!

AnotherCF · 02/02/2023 10:17

This is another issue isn’t it ? I’ve seen this a lot lately. The price may not go up but the weight is reduced so it’s a price rise by stealth.

Prime energy Drink- £12.99

Atora Suet - £3.75!

Shunkleisshiny · 02/02/2023 10:22

Next Christmas try the charity shops, I bought a 7' fake one for our local lifestyle centre. It was lovely! very full and all dressed up looked very expensive.
It came in its own box, and it cost £5, my bargain of last year!

My daughter is autistic and will only eat the Heinz variations of tinned food, so tomato soup, pasta shapes and bolognese 😩 she is home schooled so has these as easy lunches, easily amounts to £10 per week just on Heinz.

Omg same!! My girl will only eat Heinz Macaroni cheese. It’s gone from 5 tins for £5 to THREE tins for £5 now!!!

Emily19944 · 02/02/2023 10:25

Whiskas cat biscuits in Asda for £7.25 a bag!

EightChalk · 02/02/2023 10:27

Bisto has been my biggest shock recently. Coffee seems to have jumped up too, but I already used to buy it reduced only as it's so expensive.

What seems really stressful about this period of inflation is that usually, if you're struggling for money you can go down to cheaper options and I'm sure most of us have a mental list of cheap meals/substitutions/things we can go without when times are hard for us individually. But now it feels like EVERYTHING is going up, so that option is no longer available. It's quite scary seeing how things can just keep getting worse.

Beccatheboo · 02/02/2023 10:29
