I’ve give up smoking I’ve got a vape a good one I haven’t smoked since yesterday. This is so hard I really want one I want nothing more.
Im 36 and need to stop now I smoke up to 20 a day sometimes my skin has gone rubbish my hair is snapping my teeth have had better days.
my only reason for quitting at the moment is vanity and I’ve promised my children they keep nagging me to stop and their scared I will die young.
I know all this I know it’s bad for you but will I always miss it ? My morning coffee and fag my pudding fag I want to stop so much but I feel like something js missing will this go ?
Im avoiding the shop today I will buy some if I go in there today the worst bit is sometimes the man even gets my fags for me before I even ask lol it’s terrible I feel like I can’t go in if he does that I will have them help me see the benefits

OP and @Mabelface

Well done, keep going.

As well as the big inspiration picture I would put small pictures (Actually I would make a table with pictures and colours and ... yes I am annoying) maybe get the Argos catalogue and cut it up with what you could buy, even if you don't need it.

Maybe a fancy kettles, a games console, garden furniture so it isn't just £X but things.

@Mabelface I posted up thread about what happens when you give up smoking, you are about to go into the stage where your respiratory system 'wakes up' fully and starts to clean out your lungs.

Be prepared for black phlegm and lots of coughing, this is when many people give up, don't. Your body is getting rid of poison, it's not nice, think of it as being like flu, not nice but you will survive.

Mabelface · 09/02/2023 07:24

Hey sash, yeah, I've done it before. All will be fine. I've 6 years of damage to shift. I'd quit for 6 years prior to that and stupidly started again. It won't fool me again!

passiveaggressivenonsense · 09/02/2023 07:50

You just need to focus on why you're stopping. I broke my hip which was so incredibly painful and found out I had the start of osteoporosis. Smoking wrecks your bones and was finally the thing that made me stop. You can do this, everyday gets a tiny bit easier.
The first week is hell it once you've accomplished that it starts to get easier.

Bogeyes · 09/02/2023 09:49

Rock on Tweety. X

Ah yes, I have osteopenia which is the precursor to osteoporosis. This was a big part of me quitting as there's a strong maternal family history. My mother has lost 6 inches in height and has scoliosis too. Also one of the reasons I've joined a gym to do strength and resistance training.

GrisleyR · 09/02/2023 12:27

I think you're doing amazingly well and should just keep going😁

For me, a 15 - 20 a day smoker for 30 years +, the Alan Carr book did nothing, I didn't want to vape, the nicorette stuff made me nauseous and I had no bloody willpower.

I got Champix. Just took it for a month and have never smoked since. I didn't crave a fag, still don't ten years later.

We're all wired differently - you'll find your way 😊

Hups · 09/02/2023 12:48

@Mabelface Fantastic, well done. I really hope that you and @Tweetypie27 stick it out.
👍👍

Tweetypie27 · 10/02/2023 12:39

Well done @Mabelface proud of you I’m on day 10 now shocker!
my hair feels softer I’ve noticed that and my gums are bleeding 😭
I haven’t got the quitters cough yet I’m waiting for that to come are you ?
Well done for not smoking at the pub what willpower that environment is hard!
I feel like I have put on weight though have no scales here to check used my moms last week lol
Smoking is what I call my bad boy boyfriend I don’t enjoy it but I keep going back to it.

Bye bye fags

Mabelface · 10/02/2023 19:17

We're bloody amazing at this 😁

My gums haven't started bleeding yet, but fully expected. Get some Corsodyl toothpaste and mouthwash as that helps. No cough here either. To be honest, I didn't get the cough last time I'm wait so it may not happen.

The good stuff - my god, it feels good to breathe deeply. Being able to walk uphill without it nearly killing me. My skin has lost its smokers' tinge of grey and looks great. Hard to tell with my hair as it's so short 🤣

Watch out for the food replacing cigs! Do something, anything with your hands whilst you're chilling. I have games on my phone as my go to. I do have a terrible relationship with food anyway as my appetite is suppressed both by my asd, and my adhd meds. That's the next thing I'm working on.

Mabelface · 10/02/2023 19:17

And that bad boy boyfriend can get to the far side of fuck. 🤣

Newlifenewme · 10/02/2023 19:54

Keep going you’re all doing great. I stopped 12 years ago this year and it’s the best thing I ever did! It’s really hard at first but soon you’ll start realising people who smoke bloody stink and you’ll be put off ever smoking again. People say think of all the money you’ll save! But I honestly count the years il gain with my children instead of being in a coffin. Good luck you’ve come so far keep going!

purpledalmation · 10/02/2023 21:38

My first husband had awful dental problems when he stopped for some reason. I'm sure you know smokers have awful breath and I never kissed him because of it.

You and Tweety are fan bloody tastic. Well done.

Mabelface · 11/02/2023 11:23

Thank you! I had a lie in this morning. Nothing unusual with that, I know - but - it used to be that when I woke in the morning, I'd get up for a coffee and cig. No turning over and going back to sleep like I did this morning. 😊

Mabelface · 13/02/2023 18:39

How's it going today? I'm still on track.

Tweetypie27 · 14/02/2023 10:15

Hi @Mabelface how are you doing I’m still on the bandwagon I’m now at two weeks can’t believe it ! I had a dream I smoked last night 😂😂

OP posts:
Bogeyes · 14/02/2023 18:24

Cigarettes are very valuable to a smoker. That's why smokers won't crush them and bin them. Non smokers will just kick the. into the gutter.... Well done Tweety. I am so proud of you....x

Mabelface · 15/02/2023 07:40

Yay! We've done 2 weeks! Went in to the office yesterday and that did sort of nudge the itch, but I didn't and won't cave.

It’s the after dinner one for me I still crave maybe I will always crave that one that’s the only one I miss now.
How are you doing ?

OP posts:
Mabelface · 17/02/2023 15:24

Tweetypie27 · 17/02/2023 21:29
