I’ve give up smoking I’ve got a vape a good one I haven’t smoked since yesterday. This is so hard I really want one I want nothing more.
Im 36 and need to stop now I smoke up to 20 a day sometimes my skin has gone rubbish my hair is snapping my teeth have had better days.
my only reason for quitting at the moment is vanity and I’ve promised my children they keep nagging me to stop and their scared I will die young.
I know all this I know it’s bad for you but will I always miss it ? My morning coffee and fag my pudding fag I want to stop so much but I feel like something js missing will this go ?
Im avoiding the shop today I will buy some if I go in there today the worst bit is sometimes the man even gets my fags for me before I even ask lol it’s terrible I feel like I can’t go in if he does that I will have them help me see the benefits

Another day, still smoke free is about to begin.

I hope your little one is getting better.

Bogeyes · 06/02/2023 18:53

Tweetypie. You are great...

lemons44 · 06/02/2023 19:33

How's it going @Tweetypie27

Tweetypie27 · 07/02/2023 07:52

Still haven’t smoked but I’m depressed today. Had terrible toothache yesterday went to an emergency dentist last night and he said I need two root canals in my top two molars.
Im shocked by needing two I knew one needed work and he advised I get the wisdom removed too and it’s impacted.
He gave me antibiotics as I had an infection I grind my teeth at night but I have lovely straight whiteish teeth and am so upset as root canals are a hard process have had one already.
They don’t always work so then I have three top teeth missing 😪😪
I know I need it done soon I asked the cost he said £500 per tooth this was the emergency one not my usual dentist which I’m hoping is cheaper.
I think clearly smoking has taken its toll but what will I do if the three need to come out.
Not going to lie it made me want to smoke again really badly last night and this morning I’m so down in the dumps about this.
At 36 I don’t want to lose half my teeth and my front teeth to move from the gap.
Im staying off the fags to save my other teeth but I think grinding is the main problem as I have a filling in both teeth the opposite side.
Feel so done today 😭

Not smoking massively improves the outcome of dental work. Well done for getting this far. Have you worked out how much money you’ve saved? It took a couple of months for my smell to come back…be ready for it to be surprisingly revolting.🤣

Arrrrrrragghhh · 07/02/2023 08:26

Oh blimey poor you. At least if you can get through your daughters illness and a bad day at the dentist without smoking then you know you don’t really need them.

As an older ex smoker I can say you are right to give up earlier. You can’t escape the affects at 50 when you have other ageing changes going on. My non smoking friends all have better skin quality than those who smoke even though a couple spend a fortune on peels and facials. They do look good and line free but the non smokers still have younger looking skin even with the odd wrinkle. It’s just bouncier and more youthful.

Piscesmumma1978 · 07/02/2023 10:06

I did it. I was smoking 20 a day and switched to vape and now nothing for several years.

The longer you don't smoke, the worse it tastes when you have a cigarette. Really gross.

Try different vape flavours until you find a really nice one. I found the highest nicotine was too strong for me.

It gets easier and soon you'll hate the smell of cigarettes. The cost saving will also show soon so treat yourself.

Good luck op, it is definitely worth it xx

sashh · 07/02/2023 11:33

You are doing so well OP.

If you do end up losing your teeth you will have saved enough money not smoking to have implants.

And you might not lose them , I had a root canal and no problems since in that tooth.

Tweetypie27 · 07/02/2023 20:50

Haven’t smoked guys but in agony so bad I’m going to rip my head off 😭😭😭😭

Breath. Focus . Relax. Apparently that helps ( unsure emoji) Mind over matter. And things always hurt worse in the evening.

When are back to the dentist ? You need to be as healthy as possible to give your mouth a chance to heal. You’re doing exactly the right thing not putting lots of poison into your sore mouth and toxins into your blood. Hope you feel better soon Op.

Bogeyes · 07/02/2023 22:06

Sorry to read about your dental work. Keep strong. Your body will thank you for it. X

Serenitespring · 08/02/2023 00:02

That sounds terrible about your teeth!

You really didn’t need that now especially with your little girl being so poorly too, that’s really tough.
Be proud of what you’ve done, hour by hour, day by day.
I’ve been occupied and I’ve not been on mumsnet for a few days but I’ve been sending you positive vibes 😉 all of the ex smokers.
You’re tougher than you knew you were, isn’t that wonderful to know !!
I was touched by what you wrote about your miscarriage, I’m so sorry for that. It is a terrible loss.
If stopping smoking comes from your sad loss so be it, don’t blame yourself for smoking or think it might have contributed to the loss.
Sadly some little lives are not meant to be and we don’t know why.

Look back but don’t stare is how I manage with a lot of things, maybe that saying will help you too.
Do what you can do to distract yourself from the toothache, sleep if you can and things will be better in the morning.
And this will pass and you can manage.
You are doing so well, feel proud of yourself
🌟

Apologies as I haven't read the whole thread. have you tried Alan Carrs Easiway to quit smoking? It doesn't work for everyone, but if it does then you quit without any craving or substitutes. It costs about £3 on Amazon.

DeeCeeCherry · 08/02/2023 07:51

burgledinParis
I'd make an Pinterest board of things you could do with 3.5k, holiday, new car, kitchen refurb, deposit for children uni or homes - and whenever you have a craving go and have a look at it

Brilliant idea. Also on that board, put up several of those photos that show you the numerous chemicals in 1 cigarette. Rat poison, arsenic, battery fluid, formaldehyde, ammonia, acetone and more.0

I smoked for 30 years. I look back and cringe that I was so dumb. The only stopping method that worked for me was vaping as it was about the hand to mouth thing as much as inhaling. I vape a lot less now though so will stop that too. I no longer stink of smoke, nor does my home, I feel much better. No more coughing and breathlessness. & I've more money.

You can do it OP, keep going.

awww ladies you actually nearly made me cry with your messages of support 😭😭
I don’t think I’m totally over the miscarriage sometimes I think I am I don’t dwell on things to long I just get on with it but every now and then I get a wave of sadness and that’s ok it’s sad I’ve acknowledged that.
I haven’t give up to try again for a baby it’s for me and I feel guilty I smoked while pregnant but it’s done now and maybe I would of lost it even if I had stopped I don’t think it was right from the very start.
My tooth ache has calmed down loads this morning but still there but mild I had to move my dental appointment to tomorrow as my mom was coming to watch my little girl this morning but had a car issue so had to move it. I am gutted as I wanted this wisdom tooth pulled today as that’s the one causing issues and it’s my last wisdom I’ve had the others out due to similar issues.
Im still not smoking I’m getting used to it now my partner also hasn’t smoked since two days ago now never thought he could even do a day but he has.
Im saving the money no idea what for yet probably new teeth 😂
I am so proud of us all for doing this it’s not easy I do miss smoking I miss the hot feeling on my lungs I know it sounds weird but you know that feeling.
I have a new found respect for addicts who stop drugs or alcohol it must be hard I heard smoking is more addictive then any of them even products in the fag are addictive not just the nicotine.
I want my life to get better I feel since Xmas nothing is getting better for me but if I smoke I won’t make anything better either I just have ti try and hope this all passes.

Brilliant. Well done Tweety, and your partner too.
Hope you get your teeth sorted soon.
All the withdrawals will pass and you will benefit 100%.
I hope your daughter is much better now.
Keep going, we're all cheering you. 💪

Mabelface · 08/02/2023 18:17

Still here! Mate, we've only gone and done a whole week! Really chuffed that your partner has come on board too, that's bloody brilliant.

Keep your eye on the little wins. I can walk up the hill to my house without getting out of breath. Just being able to take whole lungfuls of air is so lovely. I actually feel really buoyant and badly.

I've no wisdom teeth left, and a couple missing on the top and bottom on my right side. You can't tell when I smile, and there's no face shrinkage. I'm 53! Look out for your gums bleeding. It's nothing to worry about, just the full blood flow coming back.

Bogeyes · 08/02/2023 18:24

The rain and new mown grass smells lovely when you stop smoking. Well done Tweety...x

MyOldCaravan · 08/02/2023 19:10

Well done! Sense of smell can take a while to return, but it will.

Well done to you!!! That’s fantastic, a week!
You’d never have thought you could do an hour at one point.
The worst part of the actual nicotine withdrawal is over - the first three days and then the first week.
What an accomplishment!!
I’m delighted for you, wee baby steps and hour by hour you’ll get to another day. Then the days pass into weeks.

You’ll stop thinking about them and the most important thing - you’ll learn how to handle the thought of a cigarette and how to tell that thought to do one 😉
Being a non smoker is the most powerful thing you can do for yourself, an act of self care.
Always have a strategy for when the thought of a fag comes though, something that you do instead as an alternative habit.
Keep posting, I look forward to hearing how your getting on every day!
Remember - other people quit, why not me!!
🌟

Cigs can fuck off 🤣 I absolutely don't want one cos I'm enjoying without. Just been to the pub. Absolutely no bother 👌

postwarbulge · 09/02/2023 00:16

I have never smoked, mainly because I had aversion therapy as a child. My parents were inveterate smokers; for them, life was something they did between cigarettes. Only when I went to schoolfriend's non-smoking houses, did I realise how awful my parents' house smelt. As a teenager, I tried putting my going-out clothes in an old suitcase I kept under my bed, in the futile hope that the smoke would penetrate.
